Adsense Tips for Bloggers 1

How do you make money from the Google Adsense Program? What AdSense Tips can you share with us?

I have been asked this question so many times in the past few weeks that I thought I should write something on the topic. It seems increasingly bloggers want to try to cover their hosting and ISP costs with some revenue from their blog – and increasingly they’re doing it and are able to make a few (or quite a lot) dollars on the side. Many are turning to Google’s Adsense program.

Covering costs of my Digital Photography Blog is why I originally signed up with Google Adsense – blogging can get expensive when you have high levels of traffic and a lot of pages.

Whilst the agreement you sign with Google stresses that you are not allowed to give specific information about your earnings from the program I can say that I’m glad I’ve signed up because its well and truly covered my costs – and then some. In fact I think its quite feasible to expect that Adsense coupled with other strategies for making money from Blogging could quite easily generate a decent living. It takes time and hard work, but I think its very doable. (Update: Since writing this series I’ve revealed that I am now looking at making over a six figure income this year in 2005 from blogging).

So how do I make money from Google Adsense? Let me share some AdSense Tips that heve helped me.

This will be the first in a series of posts on this topic. Let me say up front I’m no expert – there are a lot of people out there making a lot more money than I am using Adsense – however most of them are not telling their secrets – well not for free anyway. I’ve got no secrets to hide and am willing to share what I’ve learnt since I signed up for the program 8 months ago. If you want a REAL expert’s opinion on Adsense I’d recommend buying Joel Comm’s What Google Never Told You About Making Money with Adsense E-Book. Joel earns $15,000 per month from Adsense and has some good things to share.

I know some bloggers are put off or offended by the idea of making money from blogging so I’ll try not to let these posts dominate my blog – however if you are not interested in the topic, simply skip over these posts.

I am going to assume a few things in this series to cut down the amount of introductory comments I have to make. Here is what I am assuming:

  • You have a blog. Whilst most of the following tips will apply to other types of websites I run Adsense on blogs and will speak from that experience.
  • You have (or will) read a basic overview of Adsense and have some understanding of what it is.
  • You have(or will) read the program policies as outlined by Google. These give details of site eligibility, ad placements and other requirements for using the system.

Enough introductory comments – lets get stuck into the Adsense Tips for Bloggers!

The full series of AdSense Tips is Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7 and Part 8.

  2. How can i post my adunits below my posting ??

  3. To Richard @ comment dated October 30th, 2007 9:03 pm
Maybe the reason you’re not gettng adsense clicks is well because it just doesnt really look right there.. it just doesn’t fit. try makng the ads look like part ofthe sidebar or something.

how long does google take to approve adsense site submitted?

  5. How long does it take for backlinks to show up on your blog? and isnt adsense annoying to readers?

  6. Thank you for this series. I started a few blogs several months ago, and this series on AdSense really gave me my foundation for my sites. While traffic is still low, I have gotten pretty decent CTRs for all of my sites, so I feel like I am in a good situation for the future.

  7. I applied for an Adsense account in late October and it took about two weeks for approval. Building slowly but building. I do have a lot of faith in Adsense though.

  8. It should not take long to get Adsence approval. You must make sure your get the right targeted traffic tho if you want it to become a real money machine.

  9. In fact, you should make sure to have a look at the Ads that are displayed on your site periodically in order to see if the person reading your blog might be interested in the product annonced. There must be a direct correlation between the interest of the reader and the ad for him to click on it and you get some cash in return. This might sound simple, but so many people don’t pay attention to the content of the ads displayed. No wonder they get no results.

  10. That was quite a long read. a good refresher, and picked up a couple of new gems..

  11. This is great advice, however, Google Adsense keeps rejecting my blog due to it’s content of airsoft. If anybody knows of another advertisement place like Adsense that accepts airsoft blogs please refer it to me.

  12. I’ve installed an adsense ad in Blogger, using the adsense format. But I don’t know how to install a second ad. I’m trying to use the other format for html code.

  13. I just started to add ads onto my Phone accessory site. It seems to be working GREAT!! You have to check it out. The best ad I have is the 4 links streched accross.

  14. just read the tips, very useful. i will try to apply it on my adsense business. thanks

  15. Very useful tips. This is one of the sites that got attention from from on my quest to find good Adsense tips. Thank you very much for sharing them.

  16. Hi,
I would like you to make a comment about my new blog. I put google ads on the middle of the page and i use the same colour on tittle. take a look:

    http://de-imediato.blogspot.com/

  17. I think the rectangular Google ads give us the maximum earnings. We have to add Google ads in our content in such a way that I should look like a part of content

  18. Nice piece of information. I would love to check this blog quite often.

  19. I have put up adsense and really, really, really need to make money. Please check out my design: http://www.natespost.com

  20. Good article, but I think affiliate marketing now pays more than Adsense, but of course this depends on the niche. Every niche is different and sometimes Adsense might work better.

  21. Google Adsense support is the worse support ever. I’d rather speak to AOL or HP’s support than deal with Adsense. I have had an issue with my account being disabled and have gone through all methods to figure out why since I never received any notifications. Its been over 3 weeks now with no response back from the google adsense support team.

I can not believe they can get away with this, saying only we have experienced a high volume of inquiries lately.

  22. I have been working on ad placement lately. It’s crazy how little changes can make you so much more money!

  23. I’m trying to get my site up and running with free members and people interested in earning with adsense. It’s currently a message board, should I change this to a blog or another type form? I’m trying to build a nice community where people can help each other and share tips about Google’s Adsense program.

  24. Google Adsense is the flagship of contextual advertising! Really the best webmaster program for earning money!

  25. Wow this post is over 3 years old and Google Adsense is just as confusing today as it was back then!

Has anybody noticed lower click-through-rates since the changes a few months ago?

  26. Over 3 years, and still packing in the traffic!

I was looking for some info on adsense and found this post sitting at #3 on Google. Thanks for sharing. Seems the info is still relevant after 3 years!

  27. yeah, I really think that u can make an monthly income just whit Google Adsense…

  28. I’m only making a few dollars off my sites with adsense http://www.chatadsense.com and http://www.askadsense.com
I do ok off of the affiliate programs on askadsense but I need to get the chatadsense.com built up with alot of members that can talk about adsense, any tips that could help me gain more members to the site? I’m thinking about just giving up and saling them on ebay but I really want to get the ball rolling and make a little more money with them.

  29. Also sometimes I get like 20 clicks on a day and make like 5 dollars and other days i get 3 or 4 clicks and make the same. How is this possible

  30. Stephen,… don’t sell them. they are going to be popular website and give you more money. just wait….

  31. adsense will not give you a huge income without a good traffic to your web site, it is very hard and expensive to get, you will need invert in advertisement.

  32. Great adsense tips. will have to try them out on my website. Need to get more traffic first. Might try blogging :-)

  33. darren,

i’d buy Joel comm book at local bookstore.

im from malaysia and that book cost me about rm89.00 ($1=RM3.3)

i buy this book last year..

  34. Thanks for all the tips. I am always debating which is the best way to arrange advertising on my site. I want it to earn, but I don’t want the content to be drowned in ads either.

  35. I am 43 years old, married, and a mom. I have been working on several
blogs for the last 7 months and had adsense on each one. After 7
MONTHS OF DEDICATION and HARD WORK, I had finally reached the 100 $
mark and was due to get my first check from adsense. Low and behold ,
I look in my email and I had a letter from adsense saying I was
disabled for invalid click activity. I WILL STATE HERE CLEARLY THAT I
DID NOTHING TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN! A person would have to be almost nuts
to work at something for 7 MONTHS to earn 100 dollars anyhow but I
did, work that is. I promoted my blogs through a chat program that I
hang in by just taking people there myself to show it to them. People
from all over the world were visiting and commenting on my blogs. It
wasn’t easy and like i said it took 7 MONTHS to get to just the 100
dollar point. I have filled out and submitted the form for adsense to
reconsider me but 8 DAYS after being shut out and submitting forms , I
still haven’t recieved anything back from them. It seems to me that
Adsense got an awful lot of time and energy and HARD WORK from me all
for nothing. If Adsense doesn’t re-enstate my account and pay me, THIS
IS A TOTAL SCAM AND RIPOFF !! And Yes, I have read the rules and sure
enough they have it all written out legal and everything that they can
cut you off for any reason they choose – AGAIN, I DID NOTHING WRONG SO
IF THEY DONT PAY , THIS IS JUST AN ABSOLUTE SCAM !

****** THEY NEVER REINSATED THE ACCOUNT AND NEVER PAID ***********

  36. Great article, I linked it on my site http://drebota.blogspot.com/2008/05/adsense-tips-for-bloggers.html#links. I think it can really help starting bloggers.

  37. I just joined adsense recently and its been making a lot for me, but lets see if i’ll get paid on 25th =)

  38. use above the fold is everything for me..try it..

  39. If i put two link units and two ads for content is that more for one page

  40. Just started with Adsense on my blog and am barely making a dollar a day, but I hope that increases a hundred fold :-)

  41. Should you use adsense, and let advertisers pay per click for your site when you could approach them privately for a site sponsorship that could be worth nearly $2-3K a month?

Thats the problem I am facing right now. $100USD a month in Adsense, but it keeps growing – OR selling banners and skyscrapers to financial firms for thousands of AUD.

    What should I do Daz?

  42. Gee whiz, I do almost all that stuff and what I make from adsense couldn’t feed an African infomercial kid.

  43. ehm…I already to be publisher google adsense…but just little money a day….help….!

  44. Which is better? Should i acquire adbrite and adsense on the same page? Or is it better to post one ad per page?

    Thank you
    Charles

  45. Adsense is outstandingly the best source for income from your blogs. Your ads should match the ads.

Here is a good example of:

  46. I still don’t know the keys to create much money from google adsense….maybe someone can help me …thanks…

  47. I have found that with adsense it certainly does take a lot to earn from it, as there is lots of work involved…potentially that puts alot of people off in the end and frustrates some, I am still on my earning journey with this constantly evolving advertising income stream.

What I do like however is having them days when you check your account to find an $8 click, which has only happened to me once, a fluke of keyword targeted marketing,oh well back to the drawing board, like your adsense series by the way, I know you wrote it awhile back, but it is quite relevant even now.

  48. well…thanks, next month I will promote my web with ppc to create maximum income from google adsense, do you have sope information about cheap ppc? thanks

  49. I’ve got less than 1$ per day, that is very low, so now I’m really want to learn something to improve my ads income. Thanks, mate
