Google Feedburner Delivers Real-time Traffic Stats

Posted By Georgina Laidlaw 29th of October 2010 Blog News 0 Comments

This week, Google unveiled an upgraded Feedburner stats package that provides real-time data on clicks, views, and podcast downloads.

For the social media fanatics, the Feedburner team add that, “if you use the FeedBurner Socialize service, and your platform uses PubSubHubbub or you ping us when you post, you can for the first time get stats on how much traffic your feed items are receiving from Twitter, as well as feed reading platforms like Google Reader in one place.”

Looks like those Refresh buttons are set to get a workout… Have you tried the new stats? What are your thoughts?

  1. I’ve yet to try the new stats but I remain positive and hopeful of the improvements and reporting.

Feedburner has always been “glitchy” to me so I’ve relied on other analytics services like Visistat to help keep me on top of analytics and reporting.

  2. I found the stats input very good on my blogger blogs because I actually saw how my traffic increased by my linking my posts on a certain blog site.i am now sure of the traffic from the sites and can achieve better marketing.

  3. AWESOME~! For the first time, there may actually be a way to prove Twitter works~! Thanks for the info, Darren =)

  4. Ever since realizing that turning on tracking in feedburner was what created those “feedproxy.google…” urls, I’ve kept it turned off.

I couldn’t justify wasting links due to bloggers linking to the feedproxy url rather than to my actual site (presumably because people were just copy/pasting the url from their feed reader).

  5. Hey Darren,

Thanks for the heads up on this… very cool! I love getting your posts via RSS — you are my go to source.

  6. Google feedburner has worked wonders for me, and I do agree that it does provide both timely and accurate results. Great post!

  7. Wow! This is informative to what i’ve been trying to accomplish for so long…Thanks A Million for such an awesome post!

  8. I am using Feedburner at the moment and thinking of switching to something else. But before that I should try this probably. Thanks for the heads up Darren.

  9. I like the new map display, which is (as far as I can tell) identical to the one in Google Analytics. The info it gave me really surprised me. I was under the impression that my subscribers were almost entirely Canadian. It turns out that over 90% of them are from the United States. This tool has been very educational already :-)

  10. Not very userfriendly, not displaying data very clearly atleast not for the non tech savvy.

  11. I have to try the new feedburner. Feedburner in past have been real flaky with subscriber counts, sometimes fluctuating in 100s to thousands. I am looking forward to trying this new tools! Thanks for the heads up.

  12. I think that uses google feedburner is useless.. because i don`t care about my blog subscriber..

But, maybe someday i will use it ..

  13. I had a look at new service but never knew that it’s real time.. I’m using PubSubHubbub on my WordPress…Will check out now!!

  14. Thanks for the information. I will try the new stats to see how much traffic my feed items are receiving from Twitter.

  15. I really like it: I just added a new post about the things that happened at MS PDC (http://codeclimber.net.nz/archive/2010/10/29/Hand-picked-sessions-from-PDC2010.aspx) and it really works, and shows clicks and views as they happen.
I haven’t turned auto-tweet because I’m already using another auto-twitter based on bit.ly, but I see it is lately loosing a lot of clicks because probably now most client untiny the url before following it. So I think I will now switch to the socialize feature of feedburner.

  16. I love feedburner and loving the updated stats package, but doubt I will use the socialize service.

  17. I have just set up feedburner on all my sites for the 1st time.

Will start using it properly soon to try to work out what I’m doing right or wrong………

  18. After the announcement that FeedMailPro was shutting down in December, I switched all my RSS feeds back to FeedBurner. I only wish that Google Analytics itself was in real time instead of a day behind.

  19. This is really a great news. I haven’t checked these features of feed burner as yet. But I will use it. It will be really useful.

  20. I found the stats input very good on my blogger blogs because I actually saw how my traffic increased by my linking my posts on a certain blog site.i am now sure of the traffic from the sites and can achieve better marketing.

  21. Google has great webmaster apps

  22. I just know it, thanks Darren. I use feedburner and ping.us, but never tried to explore their features. I’ll try it.

  23. Nice to know it. I am using feedburner and feel good to see traffic from twitter feedburner in my analytics. Thanks Darren
