Do You Have Any Blogging New Years Resolutions?

Posted By Darren Rowse 3rd of January 2010 Reader Questions 0 Comments

The new year is here and in chatting with a lot of bloggers this past week I’m hearing a lot of optimism and planning going on when it comes to blogging in 2010.

Do You Have Any Blogging New Years Resolutions for 2010?

Would love to hear your thoughts on where you’ll be heading and what you’re planning?

My plans are coming along for ProBlogger. I’m planning on a review of the whole brand of ProBlogger in the coming weeks, a redesign (that will flow out of that), new features and levels on ProBlogger.com, a new E-book in the coming month and a lot more.

What about you?

  1. I’ve been blogging for about 6 months now. Just completed my first series of good length, a series on setting new year’s goals and resolutions, and finally feel that the content on my blog is improving and I’m getting more comfortable getting my thoughts out there.

Most of my blog resolutions lie on the technical side. I’d like to route my domain to wordpress so that I don’t have to use a sub-domain anymore, and I’d like to install the Thesis theme and begin a real design for my blog.

    -rf

  2. I have a lot of them:

Write a certain number of posts in a fixed time
    Make good use of time
Spend less time on social networks
    Read less, Do MORE

  3. I have many goals for this blog…I am new so I don’t really know what to expect but here goes.

    – increase traffic to more than 200 individual hits per day

    – become more socially network savvy

    – become completely wireless

  4. I of course blogged about my goals! ;-)
    http://www.candiedfabrics.com/2010/01/01/looking-ahead-long-term-goals/

But in a nutshell, I want to:

    1. Create a more meaningful blog.
    2. Generate income from my blog, without being obnoxious about it.
    3. Consolidate the tutorials I have and make more!
    4. Increase my understanding of HTML and get my site looking even better

A lot of this will be done because of helpful info from folks like YOU! Thanks!

Starting my self-improvement blog is high on the resolutions list. :-/

It’s pretty scary, but I’ll get there eventually.

  6. My new years blogging goals are:-

    1. Post consistently. Even if its one post a week.
    2. Promote the blog more via Social Media
    3. Get more subscribers.
    4 Create compeling content.
    5. Comment more on other blogs to gain greater exposure.

Great blog btw. Good luck for the new year!

  7. I posted today that I want to look at R.E.A.L goals versus the old S.M.A.R.T goals. My primary goal for blogging is to have at least 100 followers by the end of the year. I intend for my blog not only to motivate me but to hopefully motivate others.

To be creative and learned to stay authentic to me and my goals.

    Today’s post

  8. My plan for 2010 is to really start working on making my B2B marketing weblog http://www.ceekue.com a success. Of course with the help of all great ideas on ProBlogger.

All the best for 2010 Darren and don’t change your weblog too much. It’s great!

  9. I’ve had some success with blogging in the past. As a freelance writer, I’ve had a lot of fun with it and made some good money, but this year, I’m pushing the envelope and trying to get to a whole new level. I’ve also started a new business and, if I can just get it to be profitable, I’m sure this will be a great year.

Thanks for the great work you’ve been doing with this site. I’ve never commented before but I’ve read almost everything here. A lot of good, common sense ideas that keep me motivated to try new things and put myself out there.

  10. Great answers here. I think my goal, or resolution (however you look at it), is to just be consistent with my plan I put in place months ago. That means blogging at least one post a day, commenting on other blogs (already started, see) and maximizing the exposure of my blog through any means necessary. Hoping to get some of that new year’s luck and keep it going long enough to build habits. And hopefully those good habits turn into cash. But first things first.

  11. well my resolution is spread the word out about blogging through my blog and get people interested in blogging so that they can have freedom. I want to post on my blog daily for sure and stay active in the community I want to take action when I learn something new about blogging I will definitely stop procrastinating also. I hope to offer so much value that all my subscribers want to come back the next day for more.

  12. I have about 20 new years resolutions for building my about 2 week old blog.

Some of the most important ones are:

    1. Author my first free eBook – Which I actually am editing right now! So I am happy to this start to the new year.
    2. Targeted guest posting – 6 Guest posts a month on targeted blogs in my niche.
    3. Staying consistent – 20 posts a month for 6 months = 120 posts by June 1, 2010

Have plenty more and could go on for awhile. Right now I am going to join up in the ProBlogger forum communities!

    Tanner

  13. Darren,

I will be really looking forward to the redesign. Haha I always look forward to the redesigns of sites/blogs.

For me, the goal for 2010 is to focus on my first and primary blog, http://lifenotion.com Here I already have a contest running and my goal is to write at least one post everyday. If you have not heard of LifeNotion, many bloggers have told me they like its approach and ultimate goal so that is why it is my primary.

Along with the contest and more posts, I will be releasing an ebook during the end of 2010 sometime.

    Good luck to everyone!
    Best Regards.

  14. My main resolution this year is to take a step back from the family problems that have consumed the past 6 months. It will be hard for me but I’ll ensure to structure my schedule for that its flexible during emergencies.

My other goals are income related – something that I feel uncomfortable divulging. Suffice to say, I’ll be working hard this year.

However I do have a plan to self publish a book – you can blame @sarahprout for putting that in my head. :-)

  15. I don’t know if I have any resolutions, but I do have some goals that are going to require a lot more work in 2010. I’m on my way to going full time this year, but it’s not going to be easy.

  16. I relaunched my blog James Pegram dot com a bit before Christmas. The goal for 2010 is to post 2-3 quality articles every week, spend 2-3 hours a day visiting other blogs and commenting on them. Oh and building several plugins that nobody has gotten around to yet.. lol

  17. My top 7 NY resolutions for my business are:
    1. continue to improve my regular posts
    2. begin guest posting
    3. use and enjoy Twitter more
    4. increase # of subscribers
    5. create a free e-course
    6. create parenting classes for $
    7. earn a full-time income from business

Happy 2010 fellow bloggers! It’s your year!!

  18. If you do have blogging resolutions the chances are that you will not stick to them. Most people give up any kind of New Year resolutions before the end of January…!

If you want to be sure you will stick to your blogging resolutions take a look at my blog on how to make sure you keep up your resolutions – and make them work for the long-term:

  19. Hi Darren, those are my 2010 blogging goals:

    1. Writing high quality articles every day on my three blogs.

    2. Leave comments on top blogs.

    3. Increasing my site traffic. Increasing number of backlinks, add articles on social bookmarking sites like Digg, Delicious, and so on, as increase my Twitter followers, as Facebook fan as well.

    4. Last but not least, increasing the number of comments on my blog.

  20. Yes,

to generate 1000 US$ for the year by:

    – adding great content

    – working on at least one thing a day to improve

    – deepening my own practice of yoga and blogging

    – reading your blog among many others

    – making community

  21. my resolution.

    1. give my blog a focus — focus on healthy eating habits

    2. write more useful articles

    3. attract more and more readers.

  22. Uncertain Change 2010 Goals

I have spent some time figuring out my personal goals for 2010. It was definitely an experience and I am going to share my thoughts on creating goals for the year shortly. Then, I remembered my blog. I could not leave it limbo. That is why I had to come up with the goals for the Uncertain Change for 2010. Here they are:

    * Increase subscriber count to at the very least 1,ooo in 2010
    * Release a free report – Point of No Return before July
    * Write at least one guest post a month
    * Focus more on personal finance and financial planning
    * Continue writing 3 articles a week and one weekly update
    * Start offering paid value adding services

Of course there are other goals such as adding new features, a newsletter and so on. However, the above goals is something I want to hold myself accountable for and I know they are all doable. The most important one is reaching the 1K subscriber mark. That will be my focus. The rest of the points naturally flow into increasing my readership.

  23. I hope to blog more like a blogger and less like a columnist. For years I wrote an 800-word column for a parenting magazine, with a beginning, middle and end. I’m still trying to get used to the different writing style for blogging. I blog about women-owned businesses at http://www.wobwire.com and I hope to blog there every weekday in 2010.

  24. Hi,
I have a few New Year’s resolutions when it comes to blogging. I have done a lot of guest posting in the past few months but I’m hoping to step it up even further this year. I think that guest posting is extremely powerful and I’m hoping to utilize this medium to gain readership. I also want to increase my paid guest posting to supplement my regular day job income. I enjoy it and it helps me gain exposure.
It’s been all good for my first year of blogging and I think it’s only going to get better.

    Best,
    Bob

  25. I kept my new year’s resolutions simple:

    1. Post regularly instead of every few months
    2. Attract more readers

  26. My blog is just one month old so Iam not going to be too ambitious here. I think I am going to keep writing a steady flow of content (at least 4 blog posts per week) and get at least an average of 40 email subscribers by the end of January. Thanks Darren for all the wonderful tips and advice you share with all of us. Happy 2010!!

  27. Well, first, I plan to stick to my habit of having a post a day. Second, I plan to revamp my blog. And third, I plan to do a lot more guest posting. That’s all I got…anything else I make sure to let you know

  28. Like everyone I want to post more, guest post more, comment more, develop new products etc. But what I am really interested in is where Travels of an Earth Pilgrim is going and what it is giving people.

My aim, therefore, for 2010 is to develop an audience of passionate readers who buy into my message and are entertained by my writing. Why else would you want tyo put all this work in?

  29. From the foot of Mount Fuji, Japan, hello. I have a bilingual website/blog (English and Japanese). In 2010 I intend to be a contributing participant in the global blogosphere and to write as many meaningful posts as I can. Also, I intend to stabilize the posting schedule for my free e-newsletter, which has been hard to do well in two language versions. I also want to continue to deepen my experience of blogging and enjoy the worldwide blogging community. There is amazing connection out there!

  30. I split my original blog into 3 more narrow topics to better serve readers with specific interests. I’m creating an editorial calendar and will follow your lead about cross-linking internally. Thanks for your continued encouragement!

  31. My blog is just a little over 1 year old and now I want to improve a few things. My goals are:

    1. Create & stick to an editorial calendar. Writing 3 post per week. Including guest posts.

    2. Increase traffic

    3. Increase subscribers

    4. Generate income by effectively use of affiliates, links, etc.

    5. Make better use of Facebook fan page

    6. Do 31DBBB again.

  32. One of my biggest blogging/business related resolutions is to ensure I stay focused on helping others via my posts, my comments, my subscriptions, etc.

I think it is easy in this time to get caught up in potential ad revenue, celebrity status, etc., but if that is our ultimate goal then we’re doing a disservice to ourselves and the entire blogging community.

My tip to new bloggers starting out is to create great content for your site that is helpful and relevant, but help others efforts too by visiting their sites, reading their posts, making thoughtful comments, subscribing to RSS feeds, etc. – EVEN if it’s not a topic you are interested in. You’d be surprised all the things you can learn! And your community will flourish because of it!

Bloggers unite!!! Together we can succeed!

  33. To abandon my blog for more profitable pursuits. Maybe to get a job in my field of expertise – mechanical engineering – instead of blogging about social media optimization, trying to convert advanced users to purchase automated friend adders.

  34. I published my year’s resolutions on my blog already, but the ones most pertaining to blogging are (they’re pretty simple): Provide 4 value-filled posts each week; Be selective in books and movies I present to my readers (I blog about books and movies that inspire travel); start an e-newsletter with extra value for subscribers; and be flexible–in life, in travel and in blogging. You can see the rest at http://wp.me/pxThu-ZR

  35. My resolutions for my newborn blog are to 1. create a regular posting schedule that I can work with (every day is impossible) and 2. increase traffic. Oh, and 3. actually have something to show on every page.

  36. I want to solidify and grow what I’ve built without burning out and quitting in mid February! (my trend)

I’d like to see where I’m at this time next year if I can actually stick with it. Time will tell…

  37. Based on a previous post, I am making a more concerted effort to record my goals, so I can revisit them later on to see how I’m doing. Specifically, I am working slowly towards reaching the 10,000 visits in one month milestone by April.

I’m on pace (after two days) to set my monthly visit high (need to average 180 visits a day). I guess the key is to just keep posting good content, and being present

  38. Mine is “consistency.” I want to be more consistent in the frequency in which I post.

    Wrote about it here: http://blogcraving.com/years-resolution-consistency/

  39. My New Year Resolutions – Be a better blogger than before.

  40. My resolution for the blog is to directly address the readers. I have been reviewing podcasts up until now, presenting mostly my own selection. Rarely I responded to what little feedback I got. By now I have a following large enough, I can make it regular action item. I want to let the readers feel they can steer the content of the blog.

  41. My plans are coming along for ProfiloBlogger.com :) not more.

  42. Hey Darren

I think those things which you mentioned are upcoming things not your resolution.

So tell us your resolution of 2010.

I would love to expand my knowledge horizon to next level and later on capitalise that.

Want to have two H as well … Health and Happiness.

  43. Mine is a straight forward resolution. 1. break the 50k and below alexa ranking. 2. improved PR to 4

  44. No exactly,my blog plan is the same as 2009. :)

  45. This is an incredible place to state my goals, in the presence of fellow bloggers and under Darren’s auspices.

    1) Not let my blog The Clean-Up Job die. Instead, post at least 3 x’s a week, if not more, and post to other forums and blogs in order to contribute and build audience.

    2) Figure out the best way to get an audience to participate in The Clean-Up Job, in a specific way I have in mind.

    3) Effectively use another blog of mine and Facebook to promote my jewelry design business.

I’ll get there. No matter what, at the end of 2010, I will be ahead of where I was now!

  46. My resolution for the blog is to directly address the readers. I have been reviewing podcasts up until now, presenting mostly my own selection. Rarely I responded to what little feedback I got. By now I have a following large enough, I can make it regular action item. I want to let the readers feel they can steer the content of the blog.
    Beijing Tour

  47. Simple, just to continue to update my blogs every day for the coming year.
    That means 365 x 2 = 730 blog posts

  48. This year, I *will* move over to our own hosted WordPress domain. No later than April 1.

  49. Finally monetize targeted traffic of 350 uniques per day. Spent 18 months building the blog and this year will be the year I’ll make some coin for my efforts. I hope!

  50. This year, I have planned to put some great and useful content to my blog:

    http://about-dog-breeds.blogspot.com/

Will have to work hard to do so.
