Do You Have Any Blogging New Years Resolutions?

Posted By Darren Rowse 3rd of January 2010 Reader Questions 0 Comments

The new year is here and in chatting with a lot of bloggers this past week I’m hearing a lot of optimism and planning going on when it comes to blogging in 2010.

Do You Have Any Blogging New Years Resolutions for 2010?

Would love to hear your thoughts on where you’ll be heading and what you’re planning?

My plans are coming along for ProBlogger. I’m planning on a review of the whole brand of ProBlogger in the coming weeks, a redesign (that will flow out of that), new features and levels on ProBlogger.com, a new E-book in the coming month and a lot more.

What about you?

  1. yes, I absolutely agree with you, I am working on it too! thanks.

  2. My new years goal is to bring my blog top ten for keyword “work at home”, although I know that this is very tough work for me but I will fight and my next goal is to make a good living by blogging.

  3. As I understand, a New Years resolution is something you have done last year but do not want to do it again or something you want to change for the better.

Anyway, I will make my posts on my main blog more personal and not just pure parenting and marriage tips.

I felt I was more of a writer than a blogger, and I shared my experiences as a father and husband only a few times.

By doing that, I wish I can attract more followers.

    Happy New Year to all!

  4. I don’t do resolutions, I set goals and intentions, and in fact am in the middle of a series on my blog, Skywriter, about how to set achievable goals, with your astrology chart as a key to areas that need work and as to timing for goal-related efforts.

One of my blogging goals this year is to do a better job at writing effective endings for my posts–especially ones that impel my readers into actions. I do a good job on my titles and opening hooks and put a lot of effort into them, but the posts tend to just dribble away ineffectually at the end. I intend to work just as hard at boffo endings.

Darren, I’ve just celebrated my first year anniversary at blogging, and you’ve been my blogging guide, god, and guru throughout it. My stats were crawling upward, until in the summer I implemented your tip on creating a list of links to related posts. I do that consistently now, and the stats and number of subscribers have taken a great leap upward. Thanks for all that you do!

  5. 3 main ones: 1. Grow my newsletter; 2. Launch my product that’s in the works; 3. Become the main go-to guy when it comes to dating questions and answers (close but not all the way there yet)

  6. Generally spoken, I want to increase the traffic and the revenues I make with my websites.

After I have spent a lot of time reading forums and blogs about affiliate marketing, SEO and content-writing (like this one here), I want to increase the share of “productive” time. This means less surfing and reading on the web and writing more :-)

  7. Nice.. here are my goals:
    – To earn $500/month
    – To get first SERP position
    – To create another new blog

Hopefully, all of my goals can be achieved :)

  8. several goals; (1) let my personality show more in my blogs (2) I put together a schedule for my blog posts (3) continue to looks for ways to be a more efficient bloggers (4) and last but not least, I’m getting my blog site redesigned.

  9. Hello Darren,

Yes, I like the idea to write it down. My New Year 2010 resolutions are:-

    1) Improve existing blog to make $200 a month
    2) Target to get $1000 a month from blogging by year end

  10. Blog is about fully video tutorial about thesis theme. I planned to post 3-4 post per day in these new year.

  11. I have a couple of goals that I would like to work on this year.

~focus more on quality content, the kind that grows the community and sense of self haven that a number of my posts already generate.

~ I want to stop posting less “fluff” just to get a post up because I blog in a niche where others are posting multiple times per day, I often feel obligated to post. I’m letting that go and allowing my blog to be what I want it to be.

~By being authentic, I’d like to grow my loyal readership

~By learning SEO, I’d like to grow my search engine traffic who will get hooked on my authenticity :)

  12. I decided to do at least 40 posts a month.

  13. A little more on UNETbootin software for making windows7 boot disk. http://mrpant.com/windows-7-from-usb/

  14. I run several websites and this year I decided to start blogging. My goals are to learn as much as I can (this website is one of the best tools to learn) and enjoy the community of bloggers. Happy New Year!

  15. Hi Darren! Thanks for asking. I actually just posted them on my blog about 2 minutes ago. I listed my goals and also what I want to learn more about blogging.

    http://thismamaworksit.com/2010/01/03/my-blogging-goals-and-what-i-want-to-learn-about-blogging-for-2010/

I am looking forward to your new ebook coming out. I bought you 31 day challenge and I don’t know how I would have started my blog without it. It truly is amazing and I am sure your next one will be as well.

  16. I’ve got lots of goals – three development goals for each of my three blogs.
But the resolutions are more personal:
    – develop my presence and network more effectively in the dog training niche
    – plan each blogs’ content at least a week in advance (calendar already filled out for January)
    – prioritize my writing within my business day – so that it’s not something I’m scrambling to fit in at 2 a.m.

  17. I’ve made several goals related to my blog.

    1. Increase the subscriber base to 100.
    2. Redesign the blog (I was given Thesis theme for Christmas).
    3. Get a professional logo.
    4. Write at least one guest post a month.

  18. As I celebrated one year of having a blog, not necessarily being committed to blogging, I made it a goal to upgrade to WP/thesis in Dec 09. I am learning and studying those leading in the industry and am committed to using my blog as a tool and vehicle in serving, giving, connecting and build brand and community. As a motivation, education and professional development company with a special niche for women in business and those in career transition, there is MUCH to talk about!

You have been a huge help and I thank you for your generosity and sincerity.

  19. My 2010 blogging resolutions are to create free e-book, and learn a lot about creating and customizing wordpress themes

  20. Many comments so far are about blogging more regularly in 2010. Some tips:

    1) Use Google Wonder Wheel (thanks to Darren for this tip) for blog ideas and to see what’s being written about a topic.
    2) Use http://rackandwrite.com for blog titles. You will get dozens of wacky titles but a few gems and lots of inspiration.
    3) Build on the blog topics that have been most successful in getting readers and comments
    4) If you feel passionate about something, write about it, even if it’s off message, but not too often.

I just realized, I’ve laid out my goals for 2009. Good luck everyone.

Website? Blog? Therein lies the problem. I don’t have one yet. I had a very successful blog while I was running for mayor last year, but took it down after the election. I WILL start a new blog this year, but it will be based on my profession; one that is, unfortunately, well documented and blogged about already on the Internet — writing. But, hey, everyone has their own style, and mine will, hopefully, be unique and compelling enough to bring in readers, lots of them. I bought your “31 Days” and will using it as my blueprint to begin my success. God bless you even more in 2010!

  22. My resolution is to write more thoughtful posts with substance and a little bit less eye candy fluff.

  23. I’ve become a regular poster, and my readership has increased on certain days because of that regularity. My next goal: do the research toward buying and establishing a domain name. I’m nervous about moving to a different host (Blogger is so simple), but now feels like the right time. I posted about this dilemma; like a public New Year’s Resolution, posting creates accountability. Now for action.

  24. Glad to hear about the e-book! My blogging resolution is to continue to grow my daily traffic and grow my feedburner readers, I also plan to launch another blog or website at some point and finally monetize my blog properly once I have reached my readership goals.

  25. I was slacking at the end of 2009…I’m going to put more time/effort into my blog this year!

  26. Well considering I started my blog less than a month ago I really want to kick start some traffic for the New Year. Also spend more time brainstorming and writing than screwing around on the web. And finally just to network and learn as much as I can about blogging.

  27. I started serious blogging 2009 dec start. Till the end of 2010 I aim to buy a thesis theme for my blog http://mrpant.com

  28. I want to come up with new subjects to write about, staying within my boundaries of course, and post something new daily or as often as I can. If I can write regularly and keep my material fresh, I will be very happy.

  29. My plans for the New Year include a few things. I’ve started a new video blog a little over a month ago, and am really enjoying the blog “game.” My basic goals are:

    – Grow traffic month-over-month
    – Become a leader in the online community for my niche
    – Interact much more with other bloggers, including via https://www.problogger.com
    – Begin to develop new content outside of video

  30. My Blogging New Year’s Resolutions are the following:

    1. Purchase the 31DBBB Workbook.
    2. Backup all of my blogs more often after new posts or once a week.
    3. Write and Publish Blog posts consistently every week to prevent my main blog from getting stale because I neglected it toward the end of 2009.
    3. Write and Publish at least one new post each week for my secondary blogs to maintain reader interest in their niche categories.
    4. Move all of my blogs to a reliable service.
    5. Re-design my main blog by hiring a web designer or purchasing custom theme.
    6. Transfer all images from my blogs to a third-party image hosting service instead of relying on the blog host to store my blogging images so that I can still have access to the images and photographer information if I need to upload them again or re-publish a post.

  31. To start a blog about the Beatles as songwriters blog on every one of their 186 songs in chronological order and to NOT let it take over my other blog or indeed my life!

  32. Hi there, I have just launched my blog, and before I did I spent quite some time in your archives going through tips on what makes a good blog etc. I have now a few different set of goals thanks to that, type getting the first ten posts under my belt, making myself known in the blogosphere etc. So I’m still in the Blogging 101 for dummies stage, but am enjoying it : )
    Thanks for all the tips!

  33. Have you come up with your list yet?

  34. My resolution for 2010 is to persuade my hard-working wife that blogging is no waste of time. Therefore I should rather sooner than later get a grip on my vagues ideas of bringing together writing, song writing, and music production into a business model with a new album, e book, affiliate marketing etc. To be honest I don’t have the whole year for this, six months is all.

  35. Going to take a hard look at how I spend my working time. Blogs/sites that aren’t all that productive will get less attention and clients ($) will get more. It is easy to fall into the trap of devoting too much time for too little money, especially when they’re your babies.

  36. My 2010 blog resolutions as laid out in detail on my blog are:

    1) Add More Flavor
    2) Share my Humor and Sarcasm
    3) Revamp My About Page
    4) Write Better Content
    5) Gain Consistant Bloggy Buddies
    6) Create Catchier Titles

I plan to stick with these to make Happily Blended more of a better mix of everything as I used to, but got lost with personal issues since August 2009!

  37. bonjour,
    my 2010 blog resolutions are:

    – double my subscribers on my YouTube webshow to 40K subs
    – gain 3K subscribers on vanae.com
    – share even more personal experiences
    – make sure each blog posts is super useful for readers

    happy new year everyone!
    vanae

  38. me will continue, my on going project…till done

  39. 1) Republish in a more attractive format.
    2) Sell an e-book about my new grow boxes.
    3) Make revenue within seven months.

  40. I have resolved to blog three days a week: Monday’s to discuss Homeowner Issues (maintenance, updating, landscaping, etc.), Wednesday’s for Real Estate issues (answering questions from my subscribers), and Friday’s for off-the-wall articles from the past week.

  41. Hi Darren,

My additional resolution is to move my new blog from google page 15 to page 1
    Cheers

  42. Yes, to focus more on what I’m good at and let the rest go.

  44. My goal is to be consistent and regular with my newest, and to keep my old one ticking…

  45. My goal is to make $20,000 this year from my blog and other income streams my blog opens up to me.

It’ll be a long and tough goal to reach, but go big or go home. :)

  46. I wish to build up my blog with strong readership in this 2010 new year!

  47. My resolution is to increase our blog readership by 100 times.

  48. I fell into a bit of a blogging slump toward the end of the year. I’m planning on committing more to publishing good content and to do more social networking. I also plan on getting a mentor to help expand my brand.

  49. Yes I do have a plan for 2010… in three words
    focus, concentrate, produce.
I will focus on producing interesting content,
I will concentrate on relevant keywords related to the ideas in
the content and I will tie it all together to produce income while helping out my readers.

To help keep me on track I have a 2010 planning calendar,
and I will continue to find inspiration in a few blogs including
    Problogger.

Thank you Darren, for all the help I found in 2009!

    Fran
