What Topic Is Your Blog On [POLL]

Posted By Darren Rowse 14th of March 2008 Reader Questions 0 Comments

What topic do you blog on?

This is the topic of this week’s poll. I’ve chosen a handful of categories that I think most will fit into but if there’s another one that I didn’t include click ‘other’ and add your topic to comments below. Here’s the poll:

Looking forward to seeing the results of this one.

  1. I blog about the joy of investing and the fun ways you can enjoy what you earned.

Hence the title, “The Leisure Investor”.

    Happy Blogging!!

  2. Symbolic Meanings (www.Avenefica.wordpress.com).

The animal posts really skyrocket on this blog, so I started a new blog on Animal Totems (www.SymbolicAnimals.blogspot.com).

Problogger inspired me to keep going forward and diversify. Thanks Darren!

  3. I blog about books — what’s hot in the publishing world, what book clubs are reading, etc.

There are many great lit blogs, yet this category doesn’t seem to come up (in the bloggies, in polls like this one).

Do you know why this is?

  4. I concur with other comments – about adding food blogs as a category. I put mine under hobbies since cooking (and eating) is a hobby, but I am sure others put theirs under “other”.

  5. I leave a link to my tech blog becasue of the audience, but I chose ‘personal” from the options because that one’s been around longer and actually makes money for me. :D

  6. Yes, food (I checked “other” in your poll).

  7. I finally chose “hobbies” rather than “other” but even “hobbies” doesn’t fit all that well.

That’s what comes of not researching my niche and picking one with straightforward keywords! Then again, the site was around before the advice was (I think).

The Wildlife Porch is about, to some degree, bird watching, wildlife viewing, and container gardening – all of which could be considered hobbies. But, it’s also about chickadees and solitary bees and conservation.

Interesting idea for a poll, but the “other” category might be big…

  8. I’ve just started blogging on weddings within our wedding film website – hoping to expand to reference loads of help sites for brides and grooms planning their weddings

  9. beer

If you prefer a broader category: Food & Drink

  10. Mine is mainly about photos and photography but I am spinning off a new blog from it soon dedicated completely to photography since my current one also entails personal blog entries and I need some separation.

  11. Personal development and leadership

  12. Real Estate – it could be Business or Investment category. I picked -business.

  13. Good question, but very hard to answer. Most topics cross a lot of lines. For instance, I talk about hybrid cars. So, I put it in technology, but it could just as easily been in news, political, other, health, etc… since I cover all those aspects of my ‘niche.’

  14. It’s movie reviews, but also sort of satire since they’re done in character.

  15. Timeshare Sales And Marketing Techniques

    Is that a niche?

  16. My main blog falls into three categories: blogging, news and finances.

  17. LIFT Magazine (my site) is not your typical health site … LIFT is a web magazine for the adventurer in all of us (not necessarily the gym goer) — urban men and women who work hard and play harder.

My mission: To give a fresh perspective and strong voice to any product or person that brings exciting innovations to our lives and encourages us to get off our lazy asses and enjoy the luxuries that life has to offer.

Thanks Darren, I’m always floating around here, trying to see how I can improve my site!

  18. Another demonstration of the nightmare that is taxonomy.

I’m a multisport coach. My blog addresses issues pertinent to endurance athletes. I had to choose Sports.

I’ll betcha 85% of so-called Sports blogs are fan sites for professional teams and leagues. Would you agree?

    Regards,

    Mark

  19. Yeah, very surprised that food isn’t on here. Food blogs are HUGE. There’s a whole subculture of them, along with Flickr.

My blog is a mixture of personal with entertainment and celebrity. I’m a pop culture junkie, but I also write about dating & sex. Not a porn blog, though… I can see why adult would be excluded, as such a huge portion of those are just affiliate marketing blogs.

I also keep a separate “tech-y” blog which is about blogging & social media, but not updated as frequently. Thinking of combining the two..

  20. My blog is about both science and religion. The science is mostly biology and medicine, and the religion is Catholic. Science and my faith are my two passions, and I see them as united. My blog is a space where that voice can be heard in a world that often sees the two as opposed to each other.

I am also starting a much less serious blog, My Puzzle Fix (http://mypuzzlefix.blogspot.com/), which will feature a free daily puzzle or word game. Players can compete with each other for a spot in the rankings!

  21. Relationships/Marriage

  22. Hmmm. Hard to categorize. My personal blog has morphed into a “personal motivational” blog. My loyal readers come to get motivated to do one small thing each day that makes their personal/home life better. Organization, relationships, faith and fun stuff. I entertain with a “song of the day” that goes with my topic of the day.

I rarely just yak about my “day in the life” so I don’t consider it a personal blog.

I will choose “other” for the sake of your poll…am looking forward to the results. BTW, thanks for the great site. I look forward to Problogger in my inbox each day.

  23. Technology topic as broad and programming in specific.

  24. Whisky (Food/Drink) :o)

  25. It’s so sad that beer and wine always get squished into “food” or in this case…. “other”

  26. nice poll

  27. insurance

  28. Mine is on gaming specifically a World of Warcraft blog focused entirely on Warrior tanks. (can you say focused niche :P)

  29. I’ve got three:

http://www.punctualityrules.com which is about writing, manners, and basic civility.

http://www.chappysmom.com which is primarily about knitting, but also about reading, my dog, my vacations–the personal stuff.

http://www.btt2.wordpress.com which is a weekly meme about reading–a new question every week. This one’s fun because it’s so simple to run but the participation is great.

  30. [Jesus / comic books / politics] mashup

  31. My blog http://www.giftcardblogger.com is about everything gift card. There is also a section that allows visitors to search and compare gift cards and also get gift card ratings.

  32. Law related

  33. Parenting

  34. Frugality and early retirement from a personal perspective.

  35. I blog about the Roxiticus Desperate Housewives (http://roxiticusdh.blogspot.com). Mostly personal diary stuff and random thoughts (e.g. Spitzer scandal), but I also include a “Best of the Roxiticus Valley” directory of best restaurants, wine, kid stuff in the Mendham, Bernardsville, Chester, Far Hills, Morris County, Somerset County NJ area. As a newbie to trying to make money from blogging, I like your blog, pick up the RSS feed in my Google sidebar, and visit when your topic seems on target for my site.

  36. I blog about blogging in general, SEO, social media, etc. That would be a vote for “Internet” since there’s no specific category for that.

  37. I run a food/recipe blog :)

  38. tips on relationships for married men…didn’t see that one on there – a relationships category would work well.

  39. I have more than one, but put the newest one since it’s the one I’m really concentrating on right now. I put business, which is the closest thing for a blog about how to be an administrative assistant.

  40. Probably Internet is the best description. I talk about the current direction of the internet, recent scams, security stuff, search engine/marketing news, etc.

  41. This is tricky. My blog is about technology’s effect on society. Which category do I choose. Sometimes it’s necessary to apply categories to the blogosphere, but a nicely carved out niche doesn’t always fit well in a category.

  42. I was surprised to not see more Finance/Investment blogs reported. Who knows, they could come from behind to overtake “Tech,” but it doesn’t appear likely. Looking forward to the final results and analysis from Darren.

  43. Personal, with a little bit of pop culture.

  44. My blog is focused on writing personal history and exploring the legacies we receive from others and pass on to others–including the blogging community.

  45. What? No food category? I’ve counted 8 in the comments, including my own –a number that even surprised me!
