A couple of months back I wrote a post titled 10 Steps to Writing a Successful Series on your Blog which was reasonably well received. Yesterday Lorelle VanFossen wrote a very helpful companion post to it exploring a variety of technical tips on how to publish a series of articles on your blog.
She outlines a variety of options for interlinking your posts over the days that you write your series including this helpful WordPress plugin called In-Series that helps you interlink your series quite nicely (I’m yet to try it – so this is purely a conceptual observation).
Darren – one of the points in your original 10 was to write a post a day. I only post once a day (it’s all I can manage!). I’ve been thinking that it would be interesting (and less limiting) to have other posts show up while the series is running. So maybe I post the intro and post 1, then post about something else the next day, then post the next item in the series, etc. As long as the title and text clearly identify that it’s part of the series, I think that would work. What do you think?
That’s what I’ve done in the past.
I have to go back and give your original article a reread as I have three series running or getting started on different blogs now. I just tried this plugin with one of them and it seems to be working great. Less than five minutes from your article to having it up and running.
