Vitaly Friedman (a German web designer) posted a mega list a few days back on 20 Rules Of Smart And Successful Web-development. Most of it is just good common sense that translates well into or from any language. Here’s how it starts:
‘1. Respect your visitors. Don’t try to force your visitors to read the content of your web-pages. Let them choose and decide what they want to read. For if you have someting to tell, you’ll find your listeners. Frankly, you are as good as everybody else. What would be your reaction to a dozen of pop-ups and the overflown ad blocks? My point exactly….’

Yeah, I read that last night…simple, but really good advice in my opinion, and things that are very easy to forget when you’re chasing the mighty dollar :)

I read this from Bloglines. You don`t think it`s ironic that thanks to your partial feeds it cuts off where it says don`t force your visitors to read the content?

Great article Darren. Thanks for leading me to it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve counseled people to follow item 9 on the list about writing for your visitors and not search engines.
The funny thing about it is if you simply write a focused page that’s about something you’ll not only make your visitors happy, but you’ll do well in search engines. A number of posts on my blog rank well even though I never really considered search engines while writing them. I just made sure they stayed on topic.
