How Many Blogs Do You Write On? How Many Posts Per Day?

Posted By Darren Rowse 26th of April 2008 Reader Questions 0 Comments

Speed-Posting@SeanBannister asks “how many blogs do you write for and how many blog posts a day you make?”

These days I only write actively on two blogs – ProBlogger and Digital Photography School. At one point I was writing each week on around 25 blogs – but a lot of them were pretty much just watching what other blogs wrote and attempting to aggregate that content. The blogs have little original thought on them and didn’t take off so I didn’t continue to put time into them. I do also work for b5media as the VP Training – but this is just a part time role as my two main blogs take up considerable time.

In terms of posts per day – these days I try to publish one post per day on DPS. These posts are written largely by bloggers that I’ve hired. I was writing all of the content for this blog until a few months ago so now my role is more ‘editor’ although I do average 1-2 posts still a week. On ProBlogger my post frequency varies from day to day but I do have a minimum post target of 2 posts per day. I don’t mind if this drops to 1 post on weekend days but on weekdays stick to it religiously. On top of that I add other ‘newsy’ posts so probably average 3-4 posts a day on ProBlogger.

OK – so that’s my answer – I’d love to hear how many blogs you write on and how many blog posts per day that you average writing?

  1. Thanks for the post. Just the sort of trivia I love… and often find on your site.

I have three websites… only one has a blog and I don’t really use it. I have never made a cent off it, so I’ve stuck to creating articles on the website. It is substantially more time consuming but at least it’s more financially reliable. I’m not sure why I can’t seem to get the wordpress blog functioning well. I’d love to utilize plug-ins, trackbacks, comments, etc.

I also have an on-line business that takes up huge amounts of time during it’s busy seasons so when those times come I need to focus on that business and that income and my articles suffer.

For my main website, I would be happy if I wrote an article a day. I don’t. I’m lucky if, in general, I write one article every two days. That being said, the articles are often longer.

I have another website with only two pages and it is supplemental to different business. I never really add to that website and don’t plan on it at this point, although I might create a similar website that discusses the nature of the beast.

A few days ago I started my third website. It’s a niche site which came into existence through personal experience and a lack of being able to find pertinent information on the subject on the web. It is also an experiment to see if the ‘niche site’ brings in a better income than my main site – which is quite broad.

These days, I tend to write an article for one or both sites each day, as well try to optimize the sites in some way.

To hear that so many people are writing so much more content on a regular basis is rather motivating.

  2. Hi Darren,

well in my case I write one blog in spanish and I write once a week every Monday. In 4 months I have 175 subscribers and I am very happy, I do not earn anything but I am learning and enjoying a lot.

    Regards.

  3. I now keep four blogs, and try to write in depth on two of them. The remaining two are for me to blow off steam. And I have recently been brought on as a Guide at OrganizedWisdom.com which is highly flattering.

  4. I’ve found this a very interesting post.

I had assumed the more blogs the merrier. Yet it seems that two or three, seems to be the best number of blogs to aim for – withat least one post per day to each blog.

I have three up and running – one of them iI feel can make money but I’m just not to sure what road to go down.

    Kevin

  5. I maintain two blogs right now:
    http://www.ariwriter.com
    http://www.newburyportreport.info

While both could be construed as personal blogs and may be combined in the coming weeks, the primary difference is the Newburyport Report is about my thoughts about stuff going on in the town where I live, whereas the other blog is more personal in nature that family and friends read, etc.

That said, I’m thinking of combining them. Thoughts?

  6. I used to blog once every two days, but that wasn’t enough apparently. Now I publish two everyday, though I write far more than that. In fact a little tip I have is, if your in a writing mood, write more than necessary and post them when you need them. Like when you feel like you want to destroy your blog, just post the blogs that you saved. It will save you from a headache, and you will never miss a deadline.
