Have You Set up Timeline on Your Facebook ‘Page’ Yet?

Posted By Darren Rowse 1st of March 2012 Social Media 0 Comments

In the last day Facebook have rolled out Timeline for Facebook Brand pages. There’s been a lot of talk about whether people like them or not, but the reality is that they are here, and in a month they’ll be rolled out on your Brand page whether you like it or not.

I’ve just pushed out version 1 of my own ProBlogger Facebook page here (I’m sure I’ll be tweaking it in the coming days but it is live), and I’d love to see what others are doing.

Have you activated Timeline on your Brand Page yet? If so, share a link with us in comments below so we can get a little inspiration for what you’ve done.

  1. Thanks for the info, Darren!

I did not know about this, I just activated my Timeline here http://www.facebook.com/UDOSS. So far, cover image is same as profile picture, but I am in the process of changing that!

    • Looks great Carlos but you should do something with it’s cover image.

Since the timeline for Facebook pages went live I turned my Facebook pages from ordinary to timeline including my blog’s page – https://www.facebook.com/RealTimeTricks to check how and why Facebook have took this step.

Similar to the issue which had occur at the time when Facebook had launched timeline for Facebook profile has started with fan page’s also – People are not appreciating it and will not like if they make it default.

My response towards Facebook updates have always been positive and will always be.

    • I’m still working mine but I’ve set up the timeline. https://www.facebook.com/furorfitness

Like you said Darren, it’s coming so we might as well embrace it. Thanks for all that you do.

  2. Should be interesting to see how brands adjust to the new timeline push at the end of the month. With landing pages and tabs disappearing, there’s talk that this transition will be more beneficial for Facebook than it will be for business.

The new “highlights” option functions as a digital scrapbook of sorts, chronicling the history of a business. The New York Times, for example, has used this feature well, bringing historical snapshots back to life with the help of timeline. However, this will be a particularly tough sell for small businesses and up and coming entrepreneurs with a limited history to show.

    Thanks for the insights!

  3. Yep, just upgraded to the new timeline. Still finding my way around it, but added a photo and saw you added a link to your description – smart. Did the same

    • Looks good, Tyler. How did you get your info to show under your profile pic like Darren’s? Mine was showing my telephone number and city/state, so I deleted those, and now it shows my phone number and website.

  4. I love it! Here is my page http://www.facebook.com/YarnObsession I’ll be tweaking as well as we go along, but I wanted to get it done as soon as it came!

  5. After reading your post, I started working on my Facebook page and just went live with the new version (https://www.facebook.com/WhyRome). I was a little hesitant at first, but I like the new layout. I especially like the fact messages are now an option of communicating on pages.

  6. I activated mine the other day. I love the cover photo you did, Darren. I will be toying with mine, but for now I uploaded the header from my blog. It’s here http://www.facebook.com/HauntJaunts

  7. I was so psyched when i saw that Facebook timeline was available for pages. I had been hoping they would roll that out. The nice, large images on there are going to be a boon to blogs that use a lot of imagery, like both mine and DPS.

I haven’t gotten to spend much time on there fixing it up, but as soon as my next whole or partial day off, that will be happening.

Yours is looking pretty slick, Darren!

  8. Facebook is inviting bad will of Brand and Webmasters rolling out timeline for pages . Why does a Fanpage need timeline Darren ? I expect you bloggers to take a stand in this issue and make Facebook pages better and not worse :-(

    • As someone with 15 years of branding and web experience, I’ve been dreaming of the day they’d get rid of the ugly pages and move to the Timeline layout. So far I’m loving it! Change is good. And even when it’s not good, it’s inevitable ;)

Timeline is excellent for fan and business pages if used correctly, and offers a fantastic capability to highlight past content and really make use of archives. The large image at the top can really help to brand your page, and depending on your needs “full width stories” can be an excellent advantage.

Don’t hate it just because it’s different, and try spending a little time thinking about how you could use the different features – I’m sure there are some ideas that would be applicable to you!

  9. Wasn’t sure about timeline to start with but now I’ve worked with it some more I’m starting to think it might be a good thing. The only real negative I can see is the loss of the custom landing tab. We went live today with the timeline version http://www.facebook.com/callowtop

  10. I got the invitation to upgrade yesterday, so cobbled together a cover image (I’m no artist!) and got it all setup. A little weird but I like some of the features like favoriting timeline items. http://www.facebook.com/stevevape

  11. Looks great Darren! Still playing around with the new format but have published mine too: https://www.facebook.com/figandcherry

  12. I activated mine too – decided to use wordle for my cover photo. Think it looks pretty good! http://www.facebook.com/willrussellmarketing

  13. I used the header image off our website. Took some doing to figure out the correct dimensions, namely 850 x 315 pixels but I made it work.

  14. I updated my business page yesterday morning so I could have a play with it and talk to clients about what they needed to do. So far we’re sitting tight for a couple of weeks to see what changes may come, but I’ve done two so far…

Im lovng it! Working on a better cover photo now: https://www.facebook.com/littlestomper?filter=1

  16. Great snap Darren! I’ve just jumped on board tonight but slightly let down by Facebook’s image compression (as usual) http://www.facebook.com/MattFryyWebDev

    Been waiting for it!!

  18. Alrite, so I just converted my page to the new Timeline thingy, so far I quite like my top header photo, despite it’s basically just a white Apple keyboard :)

    http://www.facebook.com/TechPatio

But, I guess I should work on making a photo that combines the topics of my blog, so it will show some computer stuff, some mobiles, some tablets, some photography etc.

  19. I did it! Changed the cover and tried to use to opportunity as a way to visually show my readers how my three different sites work together (which I think sometimes confuses people)…

  20. I actually finished mine at 11 last night, saw yours on Twitter, and spent the next hour and a half redoing my cover image based on your resolution because it looked so good, lol! Helped the fuzzies a little bit: http://www.facebook.com/creativityincluded

I haven’t changed mine yet, only just got the notification on my pages today, which means having to make new pics for the cover photo, ugh, I hate the new timeline it’s horrible!

  22. I am still working on mine, but it’s great to see everyone’s ideas and thoughts… http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vienda-Maria/109531052452233

    Thank you for sharing! xo

  23. I just pressed the ‘publish’ button on mine just now:

    http://www.facebook.com/PhotoGlow

This post pushed me to push on and publish. :-)

  24. I did yesterday. Of course, since my blog is relatively new, I didn’t have much in my timeline, yet.

    http://www.facebook.com/TravellingNerd

  25. l switched over mine, too but I’m still undecisive about what to use as the cover photo. For now, I opted for a photo of our area… it’s so serene and calming… something busy parents can use from time to time.

Maybe I am missing something, but I do NOT like it!! In fact, I hate it!

  27. Went live with the new timeline layout as well. http://www.facebook.com/emaginegroup

I’ll be tweaking the page over the next few days to take full advantage of what Timeline offers us as brands. Would love other people’s advice as well.

  28. Mine is here with what I think is a great cover photo http://www.facebook.com/mystavanger

  29. Well i was aware of only timeline for personal profile, not pages.I am activating the feature now,and later i will report back here with all things set-up.

  30. I added my timeline photo a couple of days ago. Decided to have some fun with it :)
    http://www.facebook.com/kaffekapsel

  31. It is just wonderful to see everyone’s ideas, thoughts, and cover photos. I really like yours Tristan.

  32. We jumped on board straight away, I can’t help being attracted to shiny new user interfaces!
Anyways this is our effort… Facebook.com/lobsterwebdesign
I’m pretty happy with it but I really miss the default landing app option.

  33. I did mine. I’m not sure I’m thrilled with timeline but it’s not like I have a choice:

  34. The new timeline cover designs makes everything extra special. This is a great news for facebook pages! Thank you for this post

  35. Not sure if I’ll keep it or not I may brand it the exact same as my website : http://www.facebook.com/MompreneurMogul

this is the website header http://www.momprneurmogul.com/

@Amy Warden….that is probably because yours in a place of business with a location. This is a helpful article that should solve the issue http://blog.kissmetrics.com/new-facebook-pages/

  36. yes its set up now,we will be uploading the cover page soon,as of now we are working on it.

  37. I haven’t yet, but will be doing so this week for all my pages.

  38. I’ll admit, I do love Timeline. I have so many plans for how to work it into my page – oddly enough, some from this video. Someone pointed me to this on YouTube. I almost died laughing, but Don Draper knows how to sell Facebook Timeline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAcyJhsamcQ

  39. Your timeline looks great!
    Here is mine:http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Frugal-Goddess/148545531836015
I am not sure how to optimize the new format yet but it’s just Facebook changing again…
