Google is Page Rank Update – July 05

Posted By Darren Rowse 15th of July 2005 Search Engine Optimization 0 Comments

Forums are reporting that Google is doing a Toolbar Page Rank update – I’m yet to notice any significant changes but have chatted to a few bloggers who noticed big leaps and falls in their blogs. Is it impacting you yet? As per usual it’s too early to tell where everything will settle – but share your initial observations if you’d like in comments below.

  1. Yes, I noticed this about half an hour ago. I’ve gone from 5 to 6. I suspect tomorrow my traffic will go up somewhat, as much of my traffic is from google search results.

  2. I noticed PR increases myself a few hours ago, some fairly significant. Hopefully they stick ;-)

  3. Have just checked mine. No change in past couple of weeks that I can see.
Found a ‘site’ yesterday that had no content (source code had just the basics you’d have if you opened a blank page in FrontPage etc – had a pr of 3/10 !
    Hmmmm.

  4. I noticed quite a few changes across my sites, some significant, others not so much. I’m pretty much just playing it by ear because as we already speculate – toolbar PageRank is just a myth :)

  5. My main page PR seems to have gone down, not sure about individual posts as I never monitored PR that closely.

One slightly annoying thing is that it’s PRing my site differently depending on whether the www. is present in my address.

    Oh well…

  6. I’ve noticed my main page hasn’t changed, but my subsidiary/section pages have received a boost from spread of PR across the site.

Hopefully it brings more traffic, but we’ll see… I suspect what Teli says is right!

Thanks for this blog, Darren, always check to see what’s new, and glad to see an Aussie doing great things. :-)

  7. Page Rank is a complete mystery to me. According to URLTrend each link represents approx. 0.024 of Page Rank. Yet IceRocket gives my blog 4853 links; URLTrend, 2951; Technorati 18 (woe, woe, and thrice woe); Google gives me 55 incoming links; Yahoo, 1300; MSN, a whopping 4000+.All this results in a miserly Page Rank of 3. What on earth is going on?

  8. No change yet. I hope my site will budge from its PR3 position, I have been updating regularly. Have not checked any other of my sites yet.

  9. My pagerank went up by one…so I am not complaining.

  10. My rank mysteriously dropped to zero then went back to 4 at the start of this week.

  11. Google updating Page Ranks?

Lots of sites are reporting that Google seems to be updating Page Ranks and posters on Problogger seem to be agreeing.  Maybe this explains why my Page Rank has been so erratic this week.  Hopefully I might get bumped up a notch to 5.

    Anyo…

  13. My site pagerank changed as well (from 0 to 4). I started my blog about 2 months ago. So it took about 2 months to get pagerank.

    One thing to be noted:
I have another site which I strarted also about 2 months ago with similar amount of contents and incoming links. But it went from 0 to 3. This site (unlike above site) has directory link in my front page. And my dirrectory pages have pagerank 2. This may be an example of distributing pagerank within a site. That is, my main page worth pagerank 4 but because I distributed its value to other pages which may worth pagerank 1, the other pages get 2 and main page decreases into 3. Is this good or bad?
Well, I think, it depends. For me it’s good and actually I intended becaus I wanted to promote my directory pages.

That said, I don’t expect any significant traffic increase right now. But I do so in near future. By all means traffic from search engines depends on how well your page ranked in search engine result page( SERP) not pagerank in toolbar. However, having improved pagerank is a sign of chance that my site rank in SERP can be improve, though it’s not a direct sign.

  14. […] xa Rank hat sich auch upgraded :-)

  15. Mine jumped from zero to five. I launched the site on May 1, so it took awhile…

    fivecentnickel.com

  16. Mine went from 0 to 1, which I was kinda disappointed with in some respects.

I launched another site at the same time, which is basically just a single page and has no incoming links at all (I don’t mention it anywhere – it’s a mini portfolio site that I put up for people I meet in the street). Now, with no incoming links at all and practically no content, that has been given a PR of 3.

One day all with become clear…..maybe

  17. Just spotted a rise from 3 to 4. Recognition at last.

  18. Glad to hear it John ; ) It really is a mystery…

My Cancer NewWatch blog went from 0 to 4, and my flickrDogs blog went from 5 to 6. Don’t know what it really means, but it’s kind of fun.

  19. Mine went from 4 to 1 jeez! Ouch. Thanks a lot Google. Mysteriously enough all my fluff pages (about, contact, store, etc.) have gone from o to 3?

  20. My Bloggerpreneur site went from 0 to 2. Maybe the number of daily visitors that I get will go from 0 to 2 as well. One can only dream…

  21. The PR on 2 of my sites (the two with the most incoming links) went from 5 to 6, but the one with the most traffic stayed at a 5.

  22. I only see one change at the moment, but it’s a nice one – my fitness weblog going from a 5 to a 6. I hope it stays there…

  23. The blog at the link is surging ahead at a solid PR5.

Based on what I’ve read, PR will have already “been in the market” by the time you see a change in the toolbar. That is, when you see a change in the toolbar that value has been used internally for a while. I don’t know if that’s accurate or not, perhaps your traffic will increase right after a TB update.

    > “One slightly annoying thing is that it’s PRing my
    > site differently depending on whether the www.
    > is present in my address.”

I think you should 301 redirect one to the other then, depending on which gets the higher PR or other factors.

  24. It is up from 5 to 6!

  25. G Juice

My google juice dropped. Can I call the customer complaint department?…

  26. I got my new site from 0 to 4, I was quite impressed. Although one blog of mine went down a notch.

  27. 0..to 4…to 0.

    Oh well.

  28. Mind Sharer gone from 0 to 6, which is pretty good except I need to put more time into it! (Has been busy on the other blog which is getting quite a lot of visitors recently)

  29. I have mixed results so far. A couple of my newer blogs (between 4 and 6 weeks old) have jumped to a page rank of 4. Solar Flare has finally made it to page rank 6 (it was stuck on 5 forever).

However the new domain that I moved my gadget blog to remains un-indexed and without pagerank. Guess I’ve got another month before that kicks in.

  30. Everything seems sop confusing with google.

My site for the past twelve months has gone up one every three months. My site is snow a rank 4.

What confuses me is my site is number 2 on MSN but 720 on google for my keywords.
I can not understand why sites you are ranked less then me are showing up in the search with my key words.

I have a stop gambling site. When you search on stop gambling Google allows gambling sites to show up ahead of me.

These sites that show up ahead me have nothing to do with stop gambling. How can this be?

I welcome anyone to email me related to my comments.

If you are trying to sell me something, don’t bother.

    [email protected].

If you want to look at my site it’s http://www.istoppedgambling.com

I feel like I am being held hostage with no where to go. Companies tell me if I pay $3000.00 to then they will get me to be on page one of google. For each month after that I would have to pay 3 to 4 hundred every month.

How can these companies promise such things. Their page ranks are sixes and sevens.

    Thank you so much
