Feedback from the last ProBlogger Training Day

In 2009 150 Aussie bloggers (and one from New Zealand) packed a little hotel in an inner Melbourne suburb for the first ProBlogger event. You can read a full recap on the event here but I wanted to share a little of the feedback that we had on the event from attendees.
At the end of the day we had attendees fill in a short feedback form to gauge how we went. The feedback fell into two cateogories:
1. about the venue and logistics (the room was literally packed with not a spare seat and the venue was a little dark and ‘tired’.)
We’ve certainly taken some action on this feedback – the venue is larger, lighter and more modern and we’re working on providing better wifi and food.
2. the feedback on the content of the day was amazing. The overarching theme that we heard was that if anything we’d presented too much content to digest.
What People Said About Our Last Event
What follows is a collection of some of the feedback we had about the event from those forms. The feedback was anonymous so I can’t credit people but hopefully you get the picture!
“One of the main thrills of last time was just to have the chance to meet and chat with the spectrum (novice to experienced) of those intensely interested in the field – but in the context of being exposed to some really great material.”
“Thanks to Darren, Chris and everyone else who made it happen and who attended – I not only enjoyed the day, but came out with new inspiration for action, including a “killer” idea that I have been working on since.”
“Well worth travelling 1,864 miles for! Any blogger who gets the chance to go to an event like this should.”
“OK – so it was cramped and the wifi wasn’t great – but my goodness the speakers were amazing and the networking opportunities were staggering. When is the next one?”

More Changes to This Years Event
The other themes that came to us in the surveys that we’ve run since the last training day was around more opportunities for networking, getting more women involved as speakers and letting people have opportunity to workshop their blogs. As a result this year we’ve:
- Set up a free evening networking event – running in the same venue immediately after the conference we’ll have 2 hours for networking, a few drinks, some food and some special treats from our friends at Ben and Jerry (icecream for everyone!). This will be free to all registered attendees of the day.
- Without really trying we’ve rectified the gender balance of speakers – if anything at this point we have more females than males (with more speakers of both genders to be announced).
- We’re planning more variety of types of sessions. This year we have part of the day in breakout rooms for drilling down into more specific topics (for example a session on creating eBooks, another on using blogging for social good etc). We’re also setting aside some short times through the day for working in smaller groups on your own blogs.
All in all we’re very serious about building upon the momentum of last year’s event.
We’ve since run a number of surveys both with those who attended last time and those who have registered interest in coming in 2011 – all of this feedback has been incorporated in what we’re planning for October.
