We all know that content is king and that if you keep blogging… if you keep doing what you love… the traffic and the money will follow suit. While that’s partially true, there is also things that you can do to:

  • Index your newly launched blog fast by major Search Engines Having a consistent keyword-username on all major Social Sites will help get your blog indexed faster, and at a later stage it will also help build a “brand” for your blog. So, get account on major Social Sites for your newly launched blog, namely: Twitter, Facebook (create a page for your blog), Digg, StumbleUpon, Delicious etc. By the way, it’s a good pratice to create a separate Social Sites account for each of your projects. This way you can stay focused and post messages that are related to your project. In the long run, this will help build a community that are like-minded around your project.Note from Darren: it’s worth nothing that many social media sites (like Twitter) use no follow tags on links which means the links don’t really help with SEO. Having said this – it’s still worth getting pages for your keywords/brand as these pages can rank in and of themselves in Google and can help you to have control over numerous search results for the same keyword.

    5. Misc Sites

Squidoo is a community website that allows people to create pages (called “lenses”) on various topics. Creating a topic that is related to your blog and then including your feed in that page would help your blog get indexed by Search Engines. Squidoo used to have a really good ranking in Google results, but not so much today. But it’s still ranks well and it shouldn’t be neglected.

ChangeDetection is a website that monitors sites for changes. When you monitor a particular site using ChangeDetection, it will ask you whether you want the notices to be public or private. If you say public, it will be published in their news section. For example; AdesBlog.com got an update today, type of update: text additions etc. This of course will get picked up by Search Engines and Search Engines in return will index your blog.

Technorati is a search engine for searching blogs. According to Wikipedia, as of June 2008, Technorati was indexing 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media. It’s a dying breed, but not just dead yet. You have to definitely register for an account and get your blog listed on Technorati.

That’s it. Once you are done with creating accounts and submitting your newly launched blog in the above mentioned sites, you should see your blog in Google’s Search Results within 24 hours. Most of the time it will appear within the next few hours only.

Lastly, getting indexed is one thing but sustaining that traffic is another. And this is where the Content is King phrase should truly be emphasized. Because, without a good and valuable content, all your effort will be just wasted.

I hope you have found this post useful.

  1. Awesome and very timely article!

Just completed a wordpress/thesis overhaul for a client and am about to start the promotion process.

Thanks for the tips – am putting them into practise as I type this! :)

  2. Most of these I’ve done already. I haven’t visited any of the site valuation sites yet though. I’ll check those out.

  3. Very nice list of things to do with your blog to get it noticed and indexed. A few new ones that I was unaware of previously. Thanks!

  4. Great post, thank you.

Although one thing I wanted to comment on was BlogCatalog – after reading your post I added myself to the site, and had my submission of my blog rejected for being too new and not having enough content to be of value.

It’s certainly not short on posts and has been active since March, so I am questioning its effectiveness for brand new blogs and getting indexed within 24 hours.

  5. Good tips, and some more method i think is using digg and ping tool.

  6. This is an excellent post. I very much agree the final comment that content is king or highly optimized content is king!

  7. You are right with the social sites they are one of the best ways to get indexed quickly. There are a few of the ways which you pointed out that I have not tried and a few of the sites which I have not seen so thank you very much and great post.

    Kris,

  8. Hi Darren,
Well researched, perhaps your experience has served you well..Anyways thanks for sharing it.

  9. Awesome way to quickly index blog by google

  10. As soon as your site is available on the Internet, you can submit it to Google by completing the add URL form at: http://www.google.com/addurl.html

Another way to be listed, and to raise your page rank too, is by getting other websites to link to yours. After that, when Google’s robots or spiders, known as Googlebot, crawl the web, they should run across your site within a month or so. There are two types of crawls, fresh crawls and deep crawls. Your site most likely will first get a fresh crawl in which only pages Google deems most important are crawled. After Google runs a deep crawl of your site, most, if not all of the pages on your website that contain links from other pages will be crawled and subsequently listed on Google, except pages that are included in the file robots.txt, which lists pages that you don’t want Google to crawl and pages containing code that Google is unable to parse.Really a great post. Thanks a lot for sharing this post with us.

  11. yes, I think the first key is submit the search engine as soon as possible .

  12. Great post..
But i have experience my site are indexed without i do anything. I’m just buy that domain and i haven’t written even an article on it but google immediately index it. I don’t know why but i like it..

  13. Great tips! I’ve followed most, and I’ll see if I get any results tomorrow! Thanks so much for this!

  14. Great post! I’m agree with these tips, my new blog had been indexed in 1 day and it was a good surprise.

  15. Darren, why do you say that Technorati is “a dying breed”? Too many blogs? General Google searching is easier?

Thanks for a great post! As the proud owner of a brand-new blog, I found some of these tips very useful.

  16. I rearely use communities such as blogcatalog or mybloglog for indexing. I don’t think it’s effective and it also waste your time.
Instead of that, I just use a little SEO in the blog post so that my new blog post is always indexed in 12 hours.

  17. Great post Ades. I’ve followed a number of these tips which I’ve overlooked. Thanks ;)

  18. Thanks for a terrific post! I know a lot of folks who are reluctant to talk SEO because it seems overwhelming. I’m going to forward this to them, because you make it so easy to understand the basic methods.

I’ve done most of these things, but I really noticed a difference in hits when I switched my blog from Typepad to WordPress. My site isn’t huge, but it made a decided difference the first day. I know content played a role in some of it, but I cannot help but believe that WordPress really helped.

    Thanks again!

  19. Don’t let Blog Catalog sneak by you. I am amazed at the strength it has when I Google for results of my post. It always kicks butt on BlogLog and that’s a surprise seeing how Yahoo runs BlogLog.

Attention all beginners. Bookmark this post and look at it once a day until it sinks in.

    Another great post Darren.

  20. Great post. I think I spent like 30 minutes going through the site value calculators that you listed.

  21. What a helpful post….it is proof that an ‘old dog’ can learn new tricks….this senior says thanks for the easy to understand language …..you deserve to have a Delicious Day!!

  22. Very interesting, found another very important information to follow on my next project. Thanks for the links to.

  23. Thanks for sharing Darren.

    Content is king!

  24. I think you can get indexed with just a tweet.

Google indexes all tweets and if Google really follows nofollow links, then you should be indexed in no time.

There is no reason why Google wouldn’t follow a nofollow link. Nofollow, as I understand, just states to Google “I am not so sure about this link”. The hungry Google would follow it anyway.

  25. Wow – thanks! This was exactly what I needed right now. :)

I started a new blog (http://healthification.net) yesterday and the index really bothered me.

  26. I do not agree with the authors views fully. I feel this can be achieved as followed:

    1. Blog should be a good WordPress Blog – Clean one
    2. Blog should have good content – as mentioned
    3. Good commenting on other blogs
    4. All in One SEO Plugin

    The above should help.

  27. Unique, original and useful post.

  28. Good list to begin with and to be indexed fastly. Anyway, how to rank well is another thing, and for that, nothing will replace good content!

  29. Thank you for a solid article on getting indexed by Google. The ‘Change Detection’ tip was a great surprise as I hadn’t heard of it, and the site valuation & stats information was also very helpful.

I have owned and run a regional community site since way back in the woolly days of 1997 and I’ve found staying on top of industry changes to be invaluable for keeping my search engine dominance for bigpacific.com – which has cemented my market share here. The new WordPress, with the ALLinONESEO is remarkably fast at getting stories into Google, sometimes even faster than I’d like! I look forward to using these additional tools.

I love Problogger.net because it really feels like a community that is there to help bloggers, rather than simply make money from them. I used to follow about 10 blogs or so daily, and Problogger is now the only one I read consistently and feel like I ‘can’t afford to miss it’.

    Thanks, Problogger and Guest Posters

  30. Spent two weeks trying to get WP blog indexed. Followed this – and in 24 hours BABY! Thanks for the great tips…

  31. Darren, this is some very good information. Great tips and advice. Keep up the good work . Thank you!

  32. WebsiteOutlook.com actually won’t help you because there are no links that point to your blog.

  33. Thank you for this post it is very helpfull. I will try to implement the tips and see how it goes. Again thank you for sharing.

  34. As a side note, what about Google Blog Search? I’ve had a few people recently say they could not find my blog there, but I am indexed in Google. Suggestions?

  35. I’ll definitely give it a chance.
In my opinion every link counts and it worth the 15 minutes I spent to process all the suggested above.

    Thanks

  36. Use Ping.fm to outpost to multiple networks/social bookmarking sites, including Posterous.com (which i just got my client’s site listed in under 3 hours just by including at my site at manonthefly.com – check it out linked here to my name)
also – adding the domain to your google profile works too!

  37. Thanks for the wonderful post. Before now I only add to google add url. Though I usually get indexed in 24hrs but this makes it faster.

  38. Very useful, Ades. Thanks a lot for the learning! P. :)

  39. great post and very informative especially about where to get your blogs indexed. I have used mybloglist before and its really good
    thanks

  40. We could all use helpful hints! Thank you for the tips.

  41. Hello Ades,

This post is really great. But there was something wrong with Feed-Squirrel. They no longer accept submissions now.

I will try to follow your tips.

  42. Thanx very much, I always wait the SE to index my site itself, but this needs a week or longer. Now if I have a new site,I will try the way what your post says.

  43. OK, I followed your advice to a tee! Let’s see what happens.

  44. Great post indeed!!

How do you thing they are getting indexed.

  45. Excellent tips and I have acted according to your advice. I shall continue to follow your blog. Thanks for sharing.

    James

  46. Thanks for this great list have just completed a revamp of my blog, so this is very timely.

  47. Great tips!!! Indeed getting listed in google, can really be hard, but through these tips, im sure, people can be indexed in no time. I guess you just have to deal with the right kind of people, and you do the right things, at the right time. As they say timing is everything.

  48. Very good post, thanks. I have positive experience with MyBlogLog. It gave so many backlinks, that my position in Google search improved from 64 to 53 to 45 to18 up to the 1st page in a few days for a particular keyword.

  49. Vamsi, you ask how some people have their new blog posts indexed without doing anything? Well, I notice that my blog post are all indexed within hours from the moment of publishing. My husband has a blog, too, and he gets indexed withing an hour!
Could it be that it happens thanks to particular SEO plug-ins (I use WordPress)?

  50. A good start for a blogger who wants to launched their new blog, this is oftenly mistaken by a blogger who already has a blog. Bring extra traffic will make this easier and faster. Also link building naturally will make Google spider visit your blog more faster.
