5 Questions to Ask Before Quitting Your Blog or Online Project

There may come a time in your blogging or online career where for whatever reason, you think it’s time to quit.

In the last two episodes of the ProBlogger podcast, we’ve explored things that entrepreneurs should do if they want to be successful – the first is to just start, and the follow-up episode focused on persistence even when you want to give up. But success takes many paths.

There may come a time when the best decision you can make is to let this project go, no matter how hard you’ve worked on it, and move on to something else. It may not be “quitting” as such, perhaps more pivoting, but you do need to know when the dog has had its day and there’s no real gain from continuing.

I get asked quite a bit about when is the best time to give up on an idea that’s not working, especially from bloggers who have been slogging it out for a while and who are either losing the drive to keep it going, or not seeing the results they were hoping for.

I think there’s definitely a right time, but that right time can differ depending on the person and the circumstances.

In today’s podcast episode, I share a few questions I like people to ask themselves before they make the momentous decision to pack it in, and what to do when you just don’t feel like going on.

Success rarely (if ever) is the result of travelling in a straight line, and when you feel like quitting, it might just mean that you need to change direction. Almost every successful entrepreneur I know has a long history of pivoting, going down a different path when it feels like the one you’re on has come to a stop.

I’d love to hear your experience though – have you ever thought of quitting? Have you pivoted and found a new direction to go in that brought you success?

  1. So true, Stacey. Success does take many paths. As a soon-to-blogger (yep, I know I’m very late to the game), I’ve often thought of quitting before even starting because of the time involved. I think it’s important to be prepared to be patient and not to expect a straight line. I suppose my blog is more of a commitment to keep my focus on point, personally and it will no doubt be a learning curve.

    Thanks for this great article.

  2. I decided to end my blogger life. Doing hard work but nothing happen. After reading your article now i realize that the mistake was mine. Now i am going to change my mistake and start my blogging life again. Thanks for the good suggestion.

  3. Do not let self-doubt stop you from achieving your success in any online project you are working on.
