1 Millllllion Readers

Posted By Darren Rowse 2nd of March 2006 ProBlogger Site News 0 Comments

ProBlogger has just had it’s 1,000,000th visitor!

I’ve been psyching myself up for this for the last few hours and watching my Sitemeter stats so I could get the screen cap and it just happened (kind of reminded me of the day I took a photo of my car’s dash when I clicked over 111,111kms).

Picture 2-9

So who was the reader who clicked us over into 7 figures?

I don’t know their name (and looking at their stats they don’t look like a regular reader) but here’s a little information on them:

  • They are from India
  • They came to the site from a search on Google for ‘Money Making Technique’
  • They entered on the main page and left on this one on how bloggers make money from blogs
  • They stayed for a grand total of 10 seconds

Hmmm – not the most exciting visit in the world – but a milestone of sorts none the less. Now I’m going to celebrate – with a cold and flu tablet and an early night (no I don’t pop pills to celebrate usually – just a bit off color today).

PS: Yep – I know Sitemeter stats have a bit of a reputation as not being overly accurate – but my AW stats show pretty similar levels of traffic.

Thanks to Rob for the email reminder that my stats were about to tick over to this mark

  1. Well then… I guess we’re both at milestones! :)

  2. Congratulations Darren. 1 million visitors is quite a milestone. When you get a chance you should put up a graph of how your traffic has grown from the time you started Problogger until now. I am sure that the upward slope would be quite inspiring to much of your readership that are just getting into blogging.

Thanks for the link. I am sure that today will be my biggest traffic day by far.

  3. Congratulations!
That is one well deserved achievement!

  4. Well deserved, no doubt :-).

  5. Nice!! Reaching your first million is always very, very exciting. I am finally to the point where my 30-day hits seem to be consistently reading higher than 1,000,000 myself, which is very exciting. It almost makes you wonder how high you can go before it all levels out.

  6. Wow, an awesome moment captured! Keep up the good work.

  7. Fantastic! But I’m curious, is this really the millionth visitor? That is, have you been using SiteMeter since the inception of ProBlogger? I know that for my own sites I’ve changed statistics packages several times and have completely lost cound of any kind of running total.

  8. Congratulations. Considering the value of the information you share, I’m only surprised that it took this long. I check in everyday and it’s always worthwhile. Thank you.

  9. Things you should do when you get a great link to your blog’s front page

Before I start this post I would like to welcome those of you coming from Problogger and I hope you find something you like that will make you come back.
This is the second time in as many weeks that I have talked about backlinks and what the right o…

  10. WOW! Way to go Darren! 1 million served!

  11. I raise a cup of coffee for this number. Congrats.

  12. Awesome! Congrats!

  13. Congrats on 1mil!

The best part about your car hitting 111,111 is that it is the reset point for hitting your tripometer if you want to line up the tripometer and total to hit 1234 and 123456 at the same time.

Not that I know anyone who is a big enough geek to think that that is cool.

  14. Darren,

    I visited your site everyday.

    * I stay and blog from India
    * But, I did not come from Google, I thank Yaro Starak for introducing me to you.
    * I “drench” myself with your articles.
    * I have stayed for more than 10 seconds.

I guess, I may not be the 1000,000th visitor. But I sure am one of the million of visitors here in your blog.

You are a blessing to many. You deserve this achievement!
I am happy to hear this news. Thanks for sharing you joy with us fellow bloggers. Keep the articles flowing!!!!

I hope I will be able to replicate your success soon, with my blog!

  15. I feel somewhat diminished… I’m one in a million!!!! whaaaaa! :( :)

  16. well, I don’t feel that way, because it’s great to see a blogger getting his million hits.

I visualize that one day, it would happen to me too.

Darren deserves each hits that he gets because he provides great content.

  17. Felicidades Darren! And I mean it! You help so many people to be better bloggers… That’s why we keep coming back =)

  18. Congrats.

  19. And here I was proudly telling you I had reached the milestone of 500,000 today. Trust you to trump me with a doubled number. hehehe

  20. Thanks everyone – appreciate the comments.

Rob – here’s a graph of the last year (we’ve been going for almost 18 months though so it misses the first few months – but you’ll get the idea).

Elliot – yeah it’s a nice feeling. I’ve never celebrated a million before – I usually miss them. One of my other blogs just past the 6 mill mark and I didn’t noticed. So this one’s special – mainly cause I got the screen cap of the moment. :-)

Dan – yep I’ve had SM on ProBlogger since the start

brem – you’ll never be one in a million to me

Regan – lol – sorry mate. Didn’t realise I was at this mark til Rob emailed me. I suspect your 500,000 was done a little quicker than mine :-)

  21. Thats awesome Darren!

I don’t usually become number bound but curiosity got the better of me so I decided to check the stats on one of ‘my babies’. I have had a total of 717,022 visitors already.

Being able to analyze stats is all well and good but what I am more concerned about is the bottom line. When it comes down to it there is no point in having lots of traffic if you are not monetizing that traffic properly. The key is to identify what your ‘goldmines’ are and direct traffic to them.

  22. Yay, congratulations. That’s a huge number of people.

  23. congratulations!
thats a lot of visitors. i look forward to the day when i’ll have the same amount of visitors on my site

  24. You have just 5000 unique visitors /day????

  25. You have just 5000 unique visitors/day????

  26. Congratulations Darren,

This story would have been better with a timeline of your blogging career.

    You started Blogging on …

    reached 1000 visitors on…

    Just that,

    Wish you quick Recovery

  27. Congratulations! I got my 1,000,000th pageview recently.

  28. Congrats mate :)

  29. Congratulations! I’m a newbie blogger and I found your tips and advices sound and very helpful! Thanks!

  30. Congrats on your achievment! Doesn’t it feel fantastic?

  31. Ahwwwww thank you Darren! ;-)

    congratz again

  32. That’s amazing Darren – Congrats! On getting the image view for the 1,000,000th unique visitor – I’m sure that TAKING the image was the most difficult part of this exercise :D It’s not hard to believe you will have reached those levels from reading your content everyday.

I am confused in understanding Elliot’s comment #5 .. 1M every 30 days? Really? I’m stuggling to hit 50k on my biggest site .. over 8 months.

  33. Way to go Darren!
    That’s a great accomplishment.

Here’s to the next million! Cheers!
