Hey Darren, I assume these podcasts are from articles previously written? It woudl be good to have a link to the article if possible as it is somettimes difficult to listen to the podcast and easier to read an article?
    Thanks

    • Hi Samantha – we include in the further reading sections on these show notes anything I’ve written or published before but this podcast was largely off the cuff and not from perviously published posts.

  • DIY Decorator

This was great. Of course I used up my daily limit on Buzzsumo very quickly, but it confirmed that Facebook and pinterest seem to be the biggest sharing platforms in our home decorating niche, which is what my stats were telling me. I need to implement all the strategies I got from Ruth’s Pinterest presentation at the ProBlogger event.

  • Guest posting as well as being a guest on podcast has worked great for me. It is the way that most of my followers have found me.

  • I did it! I wrote my first guest post for a personal history capturing website! https://www.americasfootprints.com/blog/detail.php?Capture-the-Moment-a-Story-at-a-Time-289 Check it out.

  • I am loving your podcasts! I love that I can listen and multi-task a bit and not have to feel the need to watch a video. So many of your podcasts have been helpful and taught me some new tips as well as reinforced those that I have heard before. Thank you!

    Another great podcast.

I realized as I was listening that I’ve been doing something like guest posting since March of 2012. I write regular articles for an online art blog called EmptyEasel (http://emptyeasel.com/). It’s paid writing (all the better), but it began as a twice monthly feature on colored pencil drawing. Since sometime in 2014, I’ve been writing once a week on a variety of art-related topics.

When I started writing for EmptyEasel, I noticed an immediate spike in readership. The increase was exponential, but it was also long-term. The number of readers that come to my blog (http://www.carrie-lewis.com/) from EmptyEasel varies from week to week and topic to topic, but it is pretty steady.

Here’s a link to a recent article, How to Draw a “Soft Focus Background with Colored Pencil (http://emptyeasel.com/2015/10/26/how-to-draw-a-soft-focus-background-with-colored-pencil/). It’s representative of what I usually write, both for EmptyEasel and my blog.

Guest posting is a great way to build social proof and improve profile, but bloggers shouldn’t disregard freelance writing.

  • Great topic. It’s taken me a good couple of hours to listen to the end. As ever I’ve been inspired to go off to check things out and looking up and one thing leads to another. THANK YOU.
PS is there a post on accepting Guest posts on your own site?
