Would You Read Your Blog? – A Guest Post by…. Me

Posted By Darren Rowse 8th of May 2008 Blog Promotion 0 Comments

Over the coming weeks and months I will be joining a team of bloggers to blog on the new ScribeFire blog. ScribeFire is a Firefox extension that allows you to blog from within your browser. They’ve just announced the release of version 2.1.

I’m going to be covering some similar topics to what I’m doing here at ProBlogger and will start off by looking at the topic of growing your blog’s readership.

You can see my first guest post which just went up at Would You Read Your Blog? The Secret to Building Traffic.

  1. I’m intrigued to see what you think of ScibeFire and how well the integration is to a blog.

  2. I do read my own blog, to catch grammar and spelling mistakes that may need to be corrected, and also to make sure any links or images came out as I wanted. I end up reformatting some things many times over to get it looking just right!

  3. Wow. Great question. I am thinking I might just print that out and tape it to the wall right above my computer. That way the question will always be asked as I write. Thanks Darren.

  4. I would totally read my personal blog, because I am darn funny.
And I’d read my tech blog because I’m knowledgeable. (most of the time) But then I’d wish I’d update more. :D

I sub to the feeds of my own blogs. That’s good, right?

  5. Joe I don’t think it’s that “type of reading”. It’s more like, would you read your own blog on a daily basis, would you like the content so much that you would subscribe your own blog?

  6. Darren – Thanks for the question and thoughtful words. The while reason I started a blog is because I feel like I have things to say that I am passionate about. I will continue to write about those things, right or wrong. As far as promotion of my site, I will worry about SEO later. That being said, I don’t know how I can have 100 readers only a month into this gig without A LOT of work getting the word out there. Right now, I would rather have great content than a great google rating…

  7. I’m very interested to see how ScribeFire works. Thanks for keeping us posted, Darren.

By the way I just bought Darren’s book yesterday. From what little I’ve read so far, I would already highly recommend it. Very useful information for bloggers of all niches.

  8. Very good question! I have asked myself this actually. If I would stuble upon my own blog, would I read it?
Of course the subjects would appeal to me, because I wrote the posts myself, but would it look good enough to not navigate away immediately?

  9. I think I ask myself that question every time I write a post. I remember back to when I was a new entrepreneur, and think of all of the things I wish people had told me when I started out.

  10. I haven’t used ScribeFire much and not at all in a long time. I even still have the extension still in FF. My biggest question about Scribefire would be working offline.
Would I read my blog? I try to make it both informative and entertaining. So, yeah, I think I would read it.
After all, if I don’t like it, how could I expect someone else to?

  11. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about “finding my voice” as a blogger. I think my blog is unique – good, right? but it’s travelling a fine line between “personal odyssey” and “tips and tricks”.

So would I read my blog? I might, just to see how the poor soul (me) is coming along in her quest, and to see if she discovers anything I can use in mine.

  12. Looking forward to it

  13. @Eduardo… of course I would! :-)

  14. interesting….
    Though I use internet explorer

  15. Tried to sign up for RSS feed on Scribe Fire but link appears broken. Good idea about subscribing to my own blog, I’ve never even seen what it comes across like!

  16. Seems like ScribeFire is only slightly more convenient than just having your blog’s write page in another tab. Is it really worth it?

Your site is a refreshing change from the majority of sites I have visited. When I first started visiting web sites I was excited by the potential of the internet as a resource and was very disappointed initially. You have restored my enthusiasm and I thank you for your efforts to share your insights and help the world become a better place.
