Over the next five days I’m going to run a little daily competition here at ProBlogger.
The prize – each day from Monday through to Friday I’ll be giving away an autographed copy of WordPress For Dummies by Lisa Sabin-Wilson.
I’ve seen some parts of this book already (the full thing is winging it’s way from the US as I write this) and it is a great read and well worthwhile the purchase for those starting out with and wanting to extend their knowledge of a blog platform that more ProBlogger readers use than any other.
How do you Win a Copy?
It’s simple – all you have to comment on ProBlogger over the next week. Each day of the week I’ll choose one random comment left on that particular day (on any post on the blog). That commenter will win a copy of the book – it is as simple as that.
The comments do need to be legitimate (ie – on topic and adding something to the conversation) – but you can enter as many times as you like – each comment that you leave is an ‘entry’.
I’ll announce the five winners at the end of the week.
Count me in as well. We’ve learned a lot of ways to tweak and code our blog, but the more we know, the better. Besides, what we don’t know frustrates the hell out of me. I keep thinking, I can do that!
I’ve never met a Dummies series book that didn’t have something useful to teach, no matter the subject – and the sheer flexibility of WordPress means there’s always more to be discovered / learned about it. What a great prize!
Cool :) I hope this is as successful as the giveaways on Engadget ;)
I could definitely need such a book to improve my blog, so I’m in ;)
This book would useful for me. I got more focused and serious with blogging this past summer. I still, though, am not completely comfortable using WordPress. I definitely need to be use plugins more, but I’m still working on optimizing the ones I currently have.
I’M A WORDPRESS DUMMY, I need the book, choose me.
Seriously, books on wordpress are way overdue even though developments are taking place at light speed there’s a huge market for wordpress development books, not only for dummies, but for more advanced topics like building themes from scratch or even what goes on under the hood of the core software.
I think the person who comes out with the first good book in the department could make a killing and with so many people out there who know alot about this subject I’m so surprised there’s nothing as far as I know.
So, all you worpress guru’s out there. If you’ve written a significant amount of content in this department on yoru blog already, why not work on putting it into a wordpress textbook of some sort. I’ll buy it if it’s user-friendly.
I find the codex to be less user friendly than I’d expect it to be.
nice way to get more comments and be glad to get a book :D
I guess it can be considered a good thing when a “dunnies” book is written on a topic, meaning it has come over the horizon into the mainstream.
One problem with this series is the variety of topics and that some offer more information than others. For example, Salesforce.com for Dummies was an extremely thorough book, as compared to others.
Just another reason why I would like to win the contest so I can see it for myself!

Is there not an online guide that gives step by step instructions for wordpress?
Great prize, count me in!
WordPress? I need to get on that! Dummy – oh yeah, I’m totally there!
Your comments section has been great the past couple of weeks!
What a great idea! Count me in! ;)
I’ve been using WordPress for a number of years now, but I always used to just use it for the basics, and am only now learning about all the cool other things you can do with WordPress!
I love Lisa’s site and can’t wait to read this book! Knowing the ins and outs of Word Press will really help me grow my business in 2008. Yeeha!
We set up a lot of our smaller client sites with WordPress and this would be great for them to have. I would love to have a copy of this for reference but for now I will check and see if Amazon has it and add it to my a-store.
Now here’s a happy way to bump up comments (not that YOU need help!). You probably have a post on competitions or give aways that I haven’t come across yet. Funny, I was looking at WordPress last night and wondering about transferring one or more of my blogger blogs over.
I want a WordPress book!!!
So I guess this means next we’ll be hearing about contests can be used to boost your traffic? :D
Great thing Darren. I have read many for dummies series. Mostly all were on computer programming as I am a programmer.
I shifted to wordpress around 3 months back and this would truly be a great add to my library.
What a great idea for a contest!
Nice competition, I hope i win!
Just started my Blog, I could really use the book.
Darren:
How ironic that you’d be running a contest for this book because number one, when I decided to move from Blogger.com to WordPress, I ended up choosing one of Lisa’s WP themes for Adversity University.
Number two, shortly after I adopted her theme, I signed up to receive the book before it was released. As soon as it came out, I received my copy and read it in one day. Yes, ONE DAY. That tells you how busy I really am, right?
In short, it was excellent. I truly enjoyed the book. Not only that but I learned a few extra tips. She is truly a great writer who writes from the heart.
So don’t pick me to get the book cuz I already have a copy but hey, if you wanted to share my blog with the rest of the world because Lisa designed, it that wouldn’t hurt. :)
There you go Darren! Enjoy your day.
I didn’t know that Dummies had a WP book out. It would come in very handy since I’m getting ready to switch over.
This is such a timely giveaway because I’ve just started considering moving from Blogger to WordPress and find that I am quite a ‘dummy’ about it even though (I thought) I know a little bit about html coding. Thank you for hosting such a great giveaway! :)
What a great item to give away! I know that I could use a little help with learning WordPress.
Thank you for posting such fun competitions.
Christy
I’m a new reader of your blog and just starting publishing my own blog using WordPress. So far your articles have really helped me but having a copy of the WordPress For Dummies would be a great addition. Plus, if I can get it for free that would be even better!
Keep up the good work, ProBlogger is a fantastic site!
Count me in (if this post counts in the give away).
Also
The other day you had a post regarding ‘buy now’ button for Amazon. You mentioned a site (Roman from phonearea.net) where the author stated that he used a plugin to get keywords for his ‘buy now’ button. Do you have an update on the plugin?
Thanks
I like hard copy references, and I am a huge fan of books for dummies. I am glad to see your endorsement of this book. Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy.
Count me in! I have been thinking about switching to WordPress with a private domain but I have admittedly been a little intimidated. Maybe this book is the answer!
We could do with it here in our library. Put it on the shelf with the other book.
Are you going to give the book a full review when you receive a copy? I have always found the For Dummies series to be easy reads.
I’ve developed a desire to start blogging after reading more and more blogs the last six months, but didn’t have a clue as to how to get started. I just discovered ProBlogger a few weeks ago and have learned so much already. Now I know enough to start with WordPress. I’ve learned so much here in such a short span of time.
Thank you so much.
I love books and just started a blog reviewing them. Your website has been a HUGE help. Thanks for offering the books!
This is a great idea Darren. Thanks.
As an owner of a number of “Dummies” books I know that they are well worth having in your library.
Add me to the list of folks looking for a copy.
Darren,
I want to thank you for your valuable site. First, it has enabled me to improve my blog significantly. Second, through your site I have come in contact with other valuable blogs. Third, it is a source of on-going education.
Keep in mind that many poor bloggers have never won a prize, and you could be alleviating the grief that comes with that deprivation.
I am not a ‘Hey gorgeous site’ type guy and I feel I need to at least provide some meaningful comment.
I Blog for fun to share with others the few things I have learned about photography.
After coming across your site I realized that except for writing about photography I really knew nothing about Blogging.
Thanks for all the wonderful tips and incites.
This post has made me jump out of google reader to comment. Excellent idea to increase the comments and nice give away to readers and your autograph will make it even better.
Wow I would love to ad this book to the ones I already won
While I’ve got a handle on most of the WordPress functionality, the multi-user aspect would definitely be of use for me in an upcoming project. I guess I’m in as well.
Darren, I think a post on competitions or give-aways would be very useful. I’ve had one good one and one that flopped. Seeing the level of participation in this one for a low dollar prize makes me wonder what the key to success is in this area.
This is a great idea Darren to help the 5 winners with these books. I’m glad I started with wordpress (and just recently, so that book would definitely be helpful), as I love it compared to a few other blog softwares I’ve looked at.
Hope you don’t mind but since many readers are obviously looking for help with wordpress, one site that has definitely helped me improve my own blog, theme and content is:
http://lorelle.wordpress.com/
I’m sure others here will benefit from it as well. Its a great resource for wordpress help.
No shame in reading a “Dummies” book! A more accurate (but less catchy) title would be “WordPress for smart beginners who want to jump start their blog.”
Count me in!
All this books for dummies really helps
After using Typepad for almost two years, I have now switched over to WordPress. I love the features, the look, the feel, etc. The only problem is that I had to bring in The WordPress Wizard, Cathy Perkins, to assist me. In Typepad, I could do it all myself; with WordPress, I’m afraid I am one of the Dummies.
All sorts of awesome, Darren!
Just started my own blog using WordPress and could really use some help with formatting issues.
And really, who doesn’t LOVE a contest? :)
While Blogger is a good platform for beginners, at some point everyone should consider making the jump to the big WP.
awesome..! could help me big time with me converting my current blog over to wordpress… :)
That book is just what I need at this moment! My boyfriend does all the programming for me, but I would really like to be less dependent and learn some basics. Also, my father wants to start a website, and has asked me today if I knew some book where he could learn how to set up a website.
Wow! This would be great to win now! I’ve just started work on one blog, and am in the research stages of another. I have decided to use WordPress as the platform, and this could be just the help I need to get everything moving as I envision it…
Thanks a lot Darren!
(warning: weblink nsfw)
While hardly a dummy, I would love a copy of the book.
