Where to Connect with Darren

Posted By Darren Rowse 20th of March 2008 ProBlogger Site News 0 Comments

Every now and again I like to update new readers on where they can connect with me outside of this blog. We’re living in a time where there are increasing numbers of points/tools of ‘connection’ and I’m aware that each reader of this blog has their own preferred means of keeping in touch.

So here’s where I’m at when it comes to blogs, social networking sites etc. I’d love to connect with you in any way that suits you.

Social Networking (and more)

  • Twitter – probably where I’m most active outside my blogs
  • Facebook – somewhere that I want to get more active
  • ProBlogger Facebook Group – a good group of people waiting to interact
  • StumbleUpon – my favoriate social bookmarking tool
  • MyBlogLog – ProBlogger’s ‘community’ at MyBlogLog
  • BlogCatalog – pretty popular among bloggers and adding features fast
  • MySpace – I don’t remember the last time I used it, but some of you do like to connect there
  • FriendFeed – I’ve only just started experimenting with this one – looks cool
  • Flickr – the occasional picture from my crazy little life
  • Pownce – another one to explore on a rainy day
  • Bebo – inactive… but one day!
  • Youtube – I need to upload some of my old videos here but will put all new ones on.

  1. That’s an impressive list! Have you had any experience with LinkedIn? I’m just trying to get started using it, and wondered if it’s something you’d think worthwhile for bloggers/writers… it seems fairly corporate-orientated to me, but that’s just a first impression.

  2. Darren’s other blog has more RSS subscribers than this one? Wow.

  3. where did you get this nice theme for your blog? can you share it free?

  4. I’m just starting to get the hang of twitter, but so far I’m really enjoying using it. I couldn’t go through the day without LinkedIn and the Q&A feature of LinkedIn has been fantastic for making new contacts.

Facebook is great but I get overwhelmed with the “so-and-so has sent you karma/roses/tiara/gems/who-knows-what – would you like to send them god-only-knows-what back – and install yet another silly feature on this silly page?”

  5. You know you could of used the justaddme widget :p

you can find it at http://justaddme.com a ton of new features coming soon too :D

  6. Thanks, Darren.

    It’s good to know you’re accessible! :o)

  7. People can connect to you, but not vice versa?

  8. It’s great that you’re so accessible even while being (I assume) so busy. Thanks for all the hard work.

  9. Youtube – good idea, hadn’t added that! Will do

  10. Ali – I’m increasingly finding LinkedIn to be useful – its a more serious tool which can open up doors once your network grows. It’s Q and A tool is also useful.

Albert – DPS and ProBlogger both hover at around the same mark – one day PB is higher and the next DPS is.

Mugur – it was custom designed. No free downloads – it cost cold hard cash to get it designed.

Mari – yeah, facebook has become more and more annoying with the app invites. I ignore them all and just look at friend invites.

    Darren – sounds interesting

Wordsmith for Hire – well if you connect with me I connect back….

  11. Hey, adding you on MySpace Darren!

Get a beer widget for your myspace! :)

  12. LinkedIn is quite a useful tool, especially for the business/industry networks; I taught many recruiters/HR professionals how to leverage its power when recruiting online. My profile there is http://www.linkedin.com/in/barbaraling ; drop me a line!

    Enjoy,

    Barbara

  13. Darren, thanks for including blogcatalog in your list.

We added a new feature today called Social Search.

Here’s the results for your name

  14. It’s a good idea to do an update post like this every couple of months.

Man, we’re really splinting our identities, aren’t we?

  15. Darren, how come you’re leaving del.icio.us aside? And likewise Digg? Seems I’ve read about those two here before, so I’d imagine you’re on them?..

Also, the mugur comment seems like spam. It’s generic, it’s offtopic, it makes no reference to Pb, and it could be said about any blog. Obviously the person hasn’t been reading Pb for any length of time, or he’d know about Ben’s work with you (and work outside that generally, as with his old College Startup site, for instance…)

  16. I just made this exact list (with the exception of Friend Feed, but I’ll check that out!) and starting making a conscious effort to
use them on a regular basis.

Thanks for validating my thoughts/actions! ;) lol

  17. Very few successful online entrepreneurs let others know where to find them. You’re all about socializing with people.
    Keep it up.

  18. Darren, LinkedIn is also a good option.
    To make connections etc.

  19. Hi Darren,

i am new to blogging and will be starting out once i finalize site design. What i wonder is how all part time bloggers keep up with all social networking sites…?? Sometimes it takes a lot amount of time.

Makes no sense to register in a social networking site and not be active on it. Hence i just started out with Orkut, Facebook, LinkedIn and will add Twitter.

    C ya

  20. Let the stalking begin!

Nah, seriously I think one key factor of your success has been the way you make yourself available to your readers.

  21. Mr. Gadget, all joking aside you make an interesting point. Darren, I have been reading ProBlogger for a couple of months, so I may have missed much older posts on this. Any thoughts on personal security when creating a WWW presence?

If any of you are aware of specific posts on this, please feel free to list in lieu of a full reply. Thanks so much to Darren and all readers out there for some good info!

  22. This is actually very noble of you. So often, the big-time guys are not very accessible, even if they give out there info.

    Thanx!

  23. Thanks for the list of social network sites – very useful!

  24. wow! a great list here, I also have to give my thumbs up to stumbleupon.

  25. Hi Darren,

This is my first visit to problogger, I like the content and will be back.

Must say though in your “make money” section, your first two suggestions are useless for a new blogger like myself to make money. Adsense and Chitika will not make any money for you unless you are getting thousands of visits to your site, upon sign up with Chitika they tell you up front that it is geared for sites getting I think 10k + a month visits. I guess for us new bloggers SEO needs to come before we get all excited about making any money .

  26. Is having a Facebook group for your blog/brand a good alternative to setting up forums? I haven’t reached critical mass in my blog to justify the time/expense of forums. My experience with Facebook groups, though, is that they’re not active.

    Thoughts?
