What to Buy Me for Christmas

Posted By Darren Rowse 19th of December 2006 ProBlogger Site News 0 Comments

GiftwrapYesterday I went to my PO Box and was surprised to find four Christmas Cards and two Christmas Gifts from ProBlogger readers.

Interestingly this is the third day in a row when I’ve had such surprises in my mail box – something different for me as last year I think the only Blogging Christmas mail was one card and a note from a deranged reader that bordered on stalking (don’t ask).

I find it interesting on a couple of levels.

  • Firstly, in this cluttered virtual space that we all inhabit a way to stand out from the crowd a little is to send something tangible using snail mail (certainly got my attention).
  • Secondly, what a wonderful little medium this is that connects people from around the globe that would never have heard about one another in any other way.

What to Get ProBlogger for Christmas

I’ve also had a couple of readers in the last two days asking me what they can get me for Christmas? On both occasions they said that they’d enjoyed my blog this year and that it’d helped them earn more money and as a result they wanted to give something back. One asked if I had a tip jar.

I feel very strange about this. For starters the idea of strangers wanting to send a present or tip for something I love doing (and make money from anyway) is a little hard to get used to.

Added to that that – I struggle enough telling my family what I want for Christmas. I feel very fortunate and lucky to not really need anything this Christmas. In fact I feel guilty about how much I have that I don’t need.

So – here’s my Christmas Wishlist. If you feel so inclined to give me a gift please don’t feel the need to send me anything but you might like to choose from this list.

Please share the love a little this Christmas with those in need.

And if you really want to give me something you can always help spread the news of my blogs a little by favorite-ing me over at Technorati or add a link to ProBlogger and/or Digital Photography School to your sidebar.

  • Happy Holidays and thank you for the many wonderful and informative posts since I’ve been reading problogger. This post inspired my first comment because I think the dilemma you face with regard to presents is quite prevalent in the blogging community. The links you gave were great and I wanted to make you aware of a great new site that has just launched and is very similar to the links you gave but offers a whole host of possible gifts.

perhaps dedicated readers can find something here to give you.

    Happy Holidays

  • Darren, that stalker card prolly came from my son-in-law who wants to quit college to blog full-time (lol, just kidding).

  • Just out of curiosity Darren,

Did you receive a gift from Google? ;)

A nice digital Picture frame perhaps?

  • Darren just change your image to something akin to Groucho Marx and I can just about guarantee that you’ll never have problems with stalkers ever again :)

  • Kiltak – yep I got that a week or so back. Not sure what to do with it as I can’t seem to get it working with my Mac ;-)

  • I was secretly hoping for one of those picture frames from Google to give to my mother (she wants one quite a bit, but I can’t fathom spending a large sum of money on one), but alas, I guess I’m not a big enough earner on AdSense.

  • Unless this is you, someone’s ripping off your content:
They haven’t done a great job of it, though :)

I also blog on this site and most of us hate plagiarism – but there are always a few who slip through the net.

Sorry, I tried to leave this on the contact form and it failed.

    Happy holidays!

  • Darren: offer it as a prize in your group writing project contest :)

  • I was curious if you had a holiday donation poll. I have noticed that some blogs give a portion of any donations to the site in December (or whenever) to charity. Do you do similar or have you thought about it?

  • “Did you receive a gift from Google?”

I read in some forums that commission junction gave out some great gifts for christmas to some of their top publishers such as laptops and digital cameras … wish i was one of them (lol).
