Last month I asked readers what blog platform they are using?
The results were clear with 43% of ProBlogger readers using WordPress.org, 29% using Blogger and 13% using WordPress.com.
This isn’t the first time I’ve run this survey. The first time I ran it was in January of 2006 – since then I ran it again in November 2007. Here are those results:
The top two platforms still remain #1 and #2 although WordPress.org has taken pushed out their lead but from there on in there’s been a shift with MovableType taking a step back and WordPress.come surging. Also interesting to me is the ‘Other’ category. When we ran this survey in 2006 there were many more platforms mentioned.
Keep in mind that this is just a survey of ProBlogger readers. While we have some diversity in our community we’re just a subset of the wider blogosphere and I’m not sure that these stats are representative of all bloggers.
They are probably all good. I started using blogger so I just stay with them.
WordPress (with self hosting) is now my king. i love it, and will love it more because it’s easy and lots of plugins and widgets to support the platform.
I was a bit shocked that more people used WordPress in 2006 then 2007.
I could not ask anything more from WordPress. It does it all for me and so much more. :)
I’m glad to see drupal getting more users year after year. I like it, it’s far more superior to wordpress, but it’s a cms in esence
I prefer WordPress, because there are many plugins for it…
WordPress Rules!
I started off by using blogger but soon realized the limitations so I exported all my posts into wordpress. Been using wordpress ever since and now my blog looks cleaner.
Interesting to see Blogger’s reach growing. Seems to be becoming more popular with individuals as well as companies (i.e. Twitter). Have to admit it’s very easy to use.
That is why I stayed with WP and never thought of leaving. Thanks for great survey
My blog is one of those “Others”…it is run on a hybrid WordPress platform called Blogi360.
There is no other blog platform I’ll use anymore.
@TimothyCarter
I figured WordPress would be on the top with blogger to follow.
Our blogs are b2evolution. I’ve tried others but, would not give up our B2’s for any of them. It does look like I am the only commenter using this platform. Oh well, I can deal with being in the minority. ;)
I just switched off Blogger to WordPress as I’m in the process of developing my brand for StGermaine.ca. I like the options on WordPress better for implementing a custom design.
That said, I really liked the functionality on Blogger. Sooner or later Google will own the world, so I’m sure they’ll keep making their blog platform better.
Overall I’m for WordPress, but I do agree that for a non-techie, Blogger is easier to operate.
I love the self-hosted WordPress. Once you get the hang of it there is no going back to blogger or wordpress.com. I’ve tried all three. WordPress.org gives the best and most professional looking results.
I have used Typepad since it was invented and can’t, for the life of me, think why anybody would use anything else. Widgets? Got ’em. Self-hosted? Got it. There is never any need to learn code or follow really complex instructions meant for web designers, not persons who just want to communicate via a blog. WordPress seems clunky and not user friendly in the least to me.
WordPress is just too easy..

I’ve always stuck with blogger because of its easy use. Great widgets and appearance. It seems like more people are turning to blogger also. Wouldn’t mind giving WordPress a try though.
I figured WordPress would be on the top with blogger to follow.
We use also WordPress, it great. GREETINGS from GERMANY!!
I started off many years ago with Blogger, but migrated over to Drupal. For me the best choice, because you can do much more than blogging.
