Theme Wars – Where WP Themes ‘Battle’

Posted By Darren Rowse 21st of July 2009 Blog Design 0 Comments

This is one of the cooler ideas I’ve seen in a while – it’s a WordPress theme site with a twist – ThemeWars.

Each week two WordPress themes are featured and readers are asked to vote for their favorite. While obviously the site’s about selling WP themes it’s also kind of fun and will be interesting to see what themes win each week. The winner gets put into the theme store once the week’s results are in.

Nice idea and the first two themes up for your vote are pretty nice themes too.

  1. Totally agree. I love this idea…and us bloggers (i.e. not designers) can get access to real professional designers as well as some good design ideas.

Plus it gives designers some great exposure…which the good ones truly deserve.

    Thanks for sharing.

  2. Great idea. There will be a ceratin moment that bloggers want to battle each other with themes. The time has come. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Great concept !
More like a user oriented theme designing strategy which satisfies both the end user as well theme designer.

  4. I like the Idea, so there’s a benefit for both the designer and the user. But i think a littel Comment section would be nice, to hear what the user really like or not!

  5. Very clever strategy, seeing where the majority of demand lies and making it fun at the same time.

  6. i have no interesting once i see the UBD logo…

  7. Dareen Really superb idea to get the more attention of users…..

  8. I checked it out. That’s original marketing. And by bringing the the readers in to vote gives it a touch of social media feeling about it. Good on “Theme Wars”. You stand out and won’t be forgotten by me.

  9. I like the idea of “theme wars”, but I wish it wasn’t about premium themes. I guess everyone is just trying to make a buck.

  10. Ive noticed woothemes.com are doing a showcase showdown where user modified themes go into battle against each other … some interesting stuff there as well.

  11. Very big fan of this idea. it is fun and a great way to check out new designs for blogging.

  12. UBD has got it bang on with this new venture. I really like it.

  13. Very good concept. I think it might also encourage designers to up their game, trust me some of them need to!

  14. wanna check it out first…thks for the info…

  15. That is a great concept. I want to participate! Thanx for bringing this up.

  16. Hope this idea takes off! There’s ton’s of WP themes out there, but most or not that great.

What I would really like is if you could give the themes a test drive and see how they run, how fast they load, how compatible they are… You can’t judge a book (ot a theme) by its cover!

  17. Darren, why you never talk about Blogger templates? ;)
btw this template is gr8, also and the site, will inspire us.

  18. Excellent concept! Their site is pretty clean too…wonder how they choose which themes to compare & add?

  19. Going to cast my vote for Magazine theme. Pretty cool website idea.

  20. Cool idea. We could be seeing some ultra-special wp themes over there. Thanks for sharing!

  21. creative ideal, but to me, most probably the site had to get more themes to let us choose, two themes a week seems to be less…

  22. If only the themes were free, that would be something very nice. I think it would be hard to judge unless you installed the theme and tested it out to truly judge.

  23. That’s neat. That’s like getting instant feedback for what kind of themes the WP community is wanting. I think that system has a lot of potential.

  24. Wow this is a very cool idea. If I had the money I would buy it now. It has a great future!

  25. This is cool!

Competition usually brings superb result. And this is the thing that we wanna see =)

  26. There is always room for ideas. I like it too.

  27. Tjank you on the tips that every blloger have to implement!

  28. Very innovative idea of theme wars. Those two are very attractive themes, hope they will get good sales.

  29. This is cool! I’ve just visited their site and voted for the themes too. Perhaps this is another technique to sell the themes?

    Regards,
    Lee

  30. Where’s Brian Clark and Thesis????

  31. Great idea, but the best theme you make yourself. Just be creative and stand ou of the crowd.

That is what your blog makes unique.

  32. It would be more fun with kittens and you could vote on which is the cutest! Oh wait, that’s been done. How about with hot chicks and you could say if they were hot or not? What, that’s been done too?

    ;)

  33. Great new site and just about anything from UBD is gold. I have gotten a few themes from them already.

  34. really make me a little crazy .who can tell me the reason why i can see my message but for a long time waiting

  35. The theme war looks to be a good concept. Of course, there are many designers that want to compete. However, I like UBD the most. It develops the themes on continuous basis.

  36. i like indeed the concept of the theme war!

  37. This is cool! thanks…

  38. Nice idea…it attract the attention of readers and probably stay long enough to read the article also

  39. Really like the idea of this…and us bloggers can get access to real professional designers as well as some good design ideas.

Plus it gives designers some great exposure…which the good ones deserve.

    Thanks for sharing.
