ProBlogger Iconized

Darren Icon

After seeing the caricature that they did of Steve Rubel I decided to surf over to iconizeme.com to order my own one.

It’s a bit self indulgent but yesterday was my 3 year anniversary of blogging and I thought I deserved a little treat – so I placed my order.

This morning it came in and here it is. I think it’s a pretty good likeness – ‘V’ cracked up when she saw it this morning but I think it’s cool Perhaps my lips are slightly lady like – but it’s a bit of fun and I can think of a few uses for it.

  1. Looks great, would also look good on your about page. Don’t get the ‘Y’ shapped thing on the end of that squigle, I must be missing something…

  2. Looks indeed good and funny like!Gratz. on the anniversary!

  3. Now all you need is the sound file to “Slave To The Rhythm” by Grace Jones and the icon will be complete :-)

    Have fun

  4. Damn! Yours turned out better than mine. Then again, you had a “head” start!

  5. Nice. Now I’ll have to get mine. It looks great!

  6. The Chinese believe thick eyebrows are a sign of prosperity and good fortune. Looks like you’ve got a lot of both!

  7. haha… I want one. I’ve never heard of Iconize me… thanks for the link.

  8. I notice something very similar about both yours and mine Steve…a lack of covering on top. We should start a blog network for bald (ish) bloggers….

  9. Darren, better get a lot of bandwidth for that one.

  10. Hmmm.. Is the opposite of hirsute, astute?

  11. Both yours and Steve’s looks like it was done by the same guy. I don’t particularly like his style. There’s kind of a weird look to it. – can’t put my finger on it, but it just looks a little creepy.

  12. Ha! Thats styling :)

Now what’d be cool is if you could get it to be your favicon. Do they do pixelgraphic versions too?

    Shweet.

  13. row1, that’s an electrical terminal lug – not unlike how your car battery is connected. The wire runs from the lug to the pencil, thus cleverly implying both the wired and writing elements of what Darren does.

  14. I know it’s not nice to leave comments like “cool” but I must say :

    cool !:DD

  15. ChrisH, it could also be just an old fashioned screw gone loose…

  16. I really like that. And the lip color I think balances out the red eraser back and that other red thing floating behind your head, so it balances the pic.

  17. Hey great icon, I’ve been putting it off for about 2 months now, but I’m going to go ahead and get mine done now.

I’m curious about how much more business they will receive now since you have had one done. Could you follow up with them in the next couple of weeks?

I feel like you are becoming the Oprah of web blog, if you do it, then everybody will follow and along with your stats, they will probably have more business than ever.

I ordered one and if I like it I’m going to order a second one of my girlfriend. I’m planning to get it printed just like a poster, should be a nice gift for Christmas :)

  19. I have no clue about these guys, but the likeness on both of you is pretty good! I’ve always recommend caricatures .. I’ve been using them online for years and we have one wall in our back room filled with original art! In case anybody’s interested.. here’s mine (btw – it was done at DisneyLand, California 2001)
    HART’s Caricature
I’ve got about 6 more around my personal blogsite of different poses, including one of us and our pets. They’re great on T-Shirts too :-) We also converted the ones on the heading of our site into Medieval Flags for our wedding.

  20. Thomas, brilliant idea. And I really like Jose’s style. Looking over Shalimar’s samples, haven’t I seen this same style in Wired Magazine? Hm, maybe-

  21. You seriously look like Steve Jobs in that one! :)

  22. I love this! I have been trying to find a good caricature artist to have one done for my small business startup site.

    Thanks for sharing.

    David

  23. […] I know at least 2 real life bloggers who made their portrait caricatures here – Darren Rowse at Problogger and Steve Rubel at Micropersuasion. Maybe I will get a caricature of myself when I am famous enough! […]
