Office Chairs Recommendations

Posted By Darren Rowse 29th of November 2006 ProBlogger Site News 0 Comments

P Aer L122A quick reader question:

What sort of chair do you sit at to blog from?

Over the last few months I’ve become increasingly aware that my chair (an office works special) is not working well for me and in the last week the result has been a back that is telling me that its ‘time for a new chair!’

So I’m shopping for a new office chair and am open to suggestions.

What kind do you use?

Do you subscribe to the ‘the more you pay the more you get’ theory?

  1. After years sitting on all kinds of office-chairs, there was never one that really suited my needs. Restlessness, pain in the lower back, stiff shoulders after a couple of hours of typing.

Some years ago I started working from home. There for the first time I tried al table at one meter high and a wooden IKEA barstool. That worked perfect. I can sit,, stand, wiggle etc. without having to move my stool.

  2. For those looking for a great ride at something less than price of an Aeron, consider the Mirra chair, also from Herman Miller. About 15% less cost, same 12 year, 24/7 comprehensive warranty, and virtually all the same features available. Very comfortable and wide range of colors. http://www.hermanmiller.com/mirra

  3. In my opinion the only important factor when buying a Ergonomic Office Chair is that it works.
There are many mentions of top range chairs in this blog, if you budget allows a girsberger aeron ( i think the reflex is a better chair) or a RH chair that’s all good, but don’t be fooled that some of the mid range products from lesser know names are not worthy, they might not have the kudos of the names i have all ready mentioned, but you don’t just buy a ergonomic office chair for the name.
Have a look around, I’ve seen some excellent chairs for less than £400 and some dame good one’s for around the £200 mark.
Ergonomics are about looking after the body. not just style.

Hello Everyone! I would recommend the Ergohuman chair by Raynor to anyone who is looking for an absolute dream chair at a relatively affordable price. I found the chair at http://www.1officefurnituremall.com/eurotech-ergohuman-chairs.htm for just under $600 which at first seemed like a lot. But, after I did some research and found that most comparable chairs cost around $1000 I didn’t feel so bad about spending $600 of my boss’s money. I have the mesh high back version and recommend it to anyone talking about office chair.

Officedespots had the Ergohuman mesh high back for $499 recently. Might still be there. Not online deal, in-store only.

  6. The important thing is you’ve realised the importance of a good quality ergonomic office chair. The aeron in you picture is indeed a excellent, but there are many others out there, the girsberger folio or reflex, anything from rh office chars.
There are smaller manufacturers who are producing some excellent ergonomic office chairs the sway is reverently in its design

  7. I’m sitting in a Humanscale Freedom Chair and I totally love it! I work with an ergonomist so he’s picky about our chairs. We’ve bought a number of the top ranked ones so we can try them all and know what to recommend to his clients. The Ergohuman is probably the best chair for the money, and can be had for a good price at http://www.thehumansolution.com. http://www.hardforums.com had a special offer posted by The Human Solution, so if you go to the forum, you can call and get the special deal. We also really love the Humanscale Freedom and Liberty chairs. Incidentally, when it comes to independent reviews, the Freedom Chair outscores the Aeron and can be had for less money in a very customized version.

Anyway, just another opinion for the team.

  8. Not always ‘the more you pay the more you get’, but if a chair is priced £9.99 you know you’re going to be getting something that isn’t going to be much kop. Buy from companies that also manufacture their own furniture and you effectively cut out the middle man, so get a better deal. There are quite a few around.

  9. For my money I wanted a chair that was flexible enough to change to my changing needs. I sit in front of the computer for at least 10 hours a day. I use a Kare Chair model 817L and I like that I could set it up to fit my body and then place in rocking mode. I adjust the rocking tension so when I reading my screen or talking on the phone I can rock but when I lean forward to type the chair goes upright.
Ergonomist say this is good as far as change your sitting position often during the day.
You can see these chair at http://www.kareproducts.com

  10. The Neutral Posture 8500 is the absolute best chair I have ever sat in , Their weavetek cloud nine fabric is fantastic. Check them out I promise you will not find a better chair anywhere.

  11. The extraordinary Glide-Tec mechanism chairs, designed and manufactured in Germany by seating specialist Sato Office, are available in the UK through Octopus Interiors and the full range can be viewed at their Central London showroom. Glide-Tec are advanced ergonomic chairs incorporating unique patented technology.

  12. I have been using Bodybilt Ergonomic Chairs http://www.ergo4me.com in my office for a long time, never had any back problems & no complaints from my employees as well.
