MSN Search Update in Progress?

Posted By Darren Rowse 12th of July 2005 Search Engine Optimization 0 Comments

I’ve noticed quite a few people in Search Engine forums over the past day commenting on changes that they are experiencing in MSN Search results for their sites. It looks like they have an update of some sort in progress.

I noticed earlier today significant shifts (mainly downward) in my MSN results in checking Digital Point’s Keyword Tracker. These updates sometimes take a few days to settle so I’ll be watching with interest.

Has anyone else noticed any changes?

  1. While ranking 4th by blog name on Yahoo, and having dropped from 4th to 14th on Google over tha past month, I’m absolutely nowhere on MSN, despite emailing them of my existence. Nothing surprises me about their search facility.

  2. I have four keywords which I used to rank #1 for until today, now I’m in the fourth and fifth slots for those. Another keyword I used to be number three for I’m now number one. So overall I lost a little ground with MSN, but not too much.

  3. Woosh! You scared me, but I’ve still got my coveted #2 ranking for “smart money”! [accounts for > 50% of my SE traffic].

  4. I used to rank 3rd for a competitive keyword but over the last few weeks I have been sliding down to around 10th :( . This is a big blow because at the moment I’m stuck in the Google Sandbox and MSN is my biggest reffer. On another keyword I used to be 4th and now I’m no where to be seen, another big blow :(

  5. I think I’m on the flip side of this coin…I’ve noticed the shift in the MSN search engine after I noticed a spike in traffic for a few choice keywords I’d been after only to discover across the board 3-4 of my newer blogs were ranked #1. Shock and awe indeed, but no complaints :)

  6. Im all over the joint here, maintained a first position, dropped a spot elsewhere, I’ve noticed that other high profile competitors have moved down as well, looks like a big shake up.

  7. whoops, just checked some more results, most are up, up and away, near the top on a number of key searches amongst some of the newer blogs, hope Google can do the same shortly as well.
