Feedburner and AdSense Integration Coming Soon

Posted By Darren Rowse 3rd of June 2008 Adsense, RSS 0 Comments

Over the weekend Feedburner have announced on their blog that the long awaited integration of AdSense ads into the Feedburner service is about to become a reality.

Google bought Feedburner last year and so this has been talked about for a while now – but in the coming weeks they’ll begin to run AdSense in the feeds of those publishers who are a part of the Feedburner Ad Network. Initially it’ll be with a small group of publishers with a full launch for all Feedburner publishers ‘soon’.

They write:

“Publishers already in the FeedBurner Ad Network will continue to see premium CPM ads directly sold onto their content, but with the added bonus of contextually targeted ads that will fill up the remainder of their inventory.”

“For publishers who are not yet placing ads in their feeds, any publisher who meets the requirements to join the AdSense program will also be able to use AdSense for feeds. You will be able to manage your feed ad units directly from AdSense Setup tab, and track performance right on the AdSense Report tab.”

To be a part of AdSense for Feeds you’ll need to be signed up for AdSense and set up your channels for ‘placement targeting’.

If you’re not an AdSense publishers sign up here:

This is great news because to this point AdSense did have an option for advertising in feeds that was a closed beta test (something that has been closed and not really developed for years) and the Feedburner Ad Network was also not available for all publishers.

  1. Hey Darren is it only going to be CPM or CPC too?

  2. Mostly (if not entirely) CPC, like normal AdSense ads. However, like the post said, it can work in conjunction with the CPM ads of the Feedburner Ad Network if you’re already in there.

(side note — UPS says my ProBlogger book will arrive today. Score!)

  3. Good news but not sure how much time ads are inserted into feed (how is that work)? Anybody have pic example to see how it looks, thanks!

  4. Where did you read this?
How about a link to the information?!

  5. @ Make Money Talks – I’m guessing one unit, that’s what you’re asking right?

  6. From their materials, I’ve never been able to tell if signing up for Adsense for Feedburner (or whatever) means that Feedburner takes a cut of all your Adsense or just that served through your Feedburner feed. It’s the second, right?

  7. Andrea — I’d assume it’s just the normal AdSense cut. Google owns FeedBurner, so there’d be no reason for them to take an extra slice of the revenue. Not to say they couldn’t…

  8. Unless I’m thoroughly confused, I’ve had this for quite a few months on my site. I’d been a part of FeedBurner’s FAN ever since that program got started. Shortly after they got bought by Google, I was able to log into my FeedBurner account and configure AdSense ads to appear in both my feed and on my site — several months ago. Not sure why this is news now, unless I was part of a select group of publishers to whom that feature was available.

  9. Raoul, feedburner inserted adsense ads on your page and showed it in your feed too – like everything else. The news is, that the new feed ads won’t show on your page (unless there is an option to do so).

  10. Very cool. I hope it comes out soon, and it will be interesting to watch. Thanks.

  11. Darren, quick point of technical feedback. The link you posted is javascript, which doesn’t always work in a feed. I couldn’t see the link in my feed reader (Liferea), it automatically strips any SCRIPT tags. Not sure what the solution is, perhaps to generate a static link if possible.

And no one else noticed “Integreation” in the title? Woa. :)

  13. I have been hearing this since 2 weeks but dont know when its really gonna happen

  14. With this new way we can make more money i think.
