ProPodcasting at ProBlogger!
April 7, 2016 By Darren Rowse
Blogging as we once knew it is changing – continually and rapidly. Our content creation is spreading beyond the boundaries of our home base on the blog, and many bloggers are finding new outposts and audiences on different platforms. One that has definitely had a recent surge in popularity in Australia is podcasting. It’s pretty apparent in the surveys we’ve done that learning more about podcasting is in hot demand, so we’re incorporating it into ProBlogger Event this year!
Let’s introduce our ProPodcasters (see what we did there?!) and the different sessions you can expect in the program!
Our podcasting training will be multifaceted and is designed to meet differing levels of skill and areas of interest. Here’s what we have in store for you!
Strategy, Inspiration and Ideas Track
This session isn’t solely about podcasting, but for those who are wondering where it fits into the content maze for them, this is a must see presentation by podcaster Colin Gray who is coming all the way from Scotland! As owner of PodCast Host and host of his seasonal podcast PodCraft, Colin will show how bloggers have a real advantage when it comes to podcasting. It’s time to learn how to leverage your creative ideas to create content across a range of mediums!
Escape the Treadmill: Creating Regular (and Amazing!) Content without Killing Yourself with Colin Gray
If there’s one theme that pops up in every story of online success, it’s the tale of high quality content delivered on a consistent basis. Consistency is easy in the beginning, but it quickly transforms into an accelerating treadmill. You may feel you’re running as fast as you can, but failing to outrun your publishing schedule. In this session we’ll explore the ‘content web’ approach that takes back control. You’ll discover a process that takes the stress out of consistent output, using one content idea to produce prolific amounts of writing, video and audio. Even better, the resulting ‘web of content’, with your favoured medium at the centre, will captivate readers. No matter where they’re captivated, the consumer is guided through the web, eventually transforming into your very own fanatical fan.
- Why ‘seasons’ can help you reclaim control over your content
- How seasons make content more effective for your audience
- How the main mediums (text, video & audio) combine to escalate engagement
- How to record & repurpose your content for every medium, every week
- How seasons allow next level repurposing, and expand your web of influence
- How the web of content guides user from first visit to fanatical fan
About Colin Gray
Colin Gray is a podcaster, a writer and a PhD in education from Scotland. He specialises in engaging through content, with podcasting at it’s core. His company, The Podcast Host helps businesses to grow an audience by combining podcasting, blogging and video to cultivate fanatical fans. These days, Colin writes regularly on podcasting and content marketing, and he and his team produce more than 10 shows. PodCraft is the flagship, a season-based show which tackles Podcasting topics head-on over a series of shows, looking to create a definitive guide each time.
Workshop Track
In our new bonus workshop track we’re including not one, but three podcasting workshops! Whether you’re at the beginning with setting up your tech, or ready to launch, or even wanting to improve how you come across in your podcasts, there is something for you! We’ve got three savvy Australian podcasters to help you out in these larger capacity (70 place) workshops on second morning of the event which are included in the price of the main ticket.

Sunday Sessions
We know almost everyone is doing it, but you may be asking where’s the return on podcasting? If you’ve established a podcast and you’re starting to wonder if you’ll be rewarded for your efforts, or you’re holding back because you don’t know if it will be worthwhile, then this is the workshop for you. Colin is holding a half day masterclass for 40 people on Sunday morning as part of a range of Sunday Sessions on offer. The focus will be on applying your learnings to your own podcast with plenty of interaction and questions.
Profitable Podcasting: How Audio Can Drive (or Create!) a Business with Colin Gray
Podcasting is the online medium with the greatest potential for engagement. Audio encourages a very personal, 1-to-1 connection with the listener. Audio is also a ‘wasted time’ medium: because listening takes place in the car or doing chores, attention can exceed 1 or 2 hours. This combination of engagement and attention is potent, generating massive trust and credibility. In this session we’ll look at how we can use podcasting to apply that trust and credibility to a business. We’ll explore how podcasting can sell existing products, or can form a business of it’s own. If you’ve been wondering how to monetise your audio content, this is the workshop for you.
Expect to learn:
- How podcasting can be used to sell existing products and services
- How a podcast itself can form the basis of a product
- How to design a podcast with monetisation in mind
- How to design a podcast with success in mind
- Current models for successful business podcasting
