Create Your Own ‘Bloggers to Watch’ List and Tell Us About It Here

Posted By Darren Rowse 12th of January 2010 Reader Questions 0 Comments

Last week we published a post by Jade Craven which contained a list of 30 bloggers to watch in 2010 from her perspective.

As tends to happen with these kinds of posts – the list caused a lot of discussion!

Not only did people post comments about it and Tweet up a storm – some bloggers even put together alternative lists of bloggers that they are watching in 2010 (see Sherri’s list here for example).

Sherri’s list got me thinking – perhaps it’s time for a mini ProBlogger ‘Group Writing Project’.

My hope is that this little project will not only highlight some great bloggers, but that it’ll help bloggers generate a little link love from one blog to another within niches and also be useful to your readers (and hopefully some of these posts will generate some buzz for your blogs – these types of lists generally do!).

Your Task is to write a ‘Bloggers to Watch’ post on your blog

Jade’s list last week was a list of bloggers that she’s watching (and as a result did have a focus upon a certain type of blogger that she follows) – but my hope is that this little project will generate some lists of bloggers that focus upon all kinds of niches/industries.

  • If you’re a craft blogger – write a list of Craft bloggers to watch in 2010.
  • If you’re a sports blogger – write a list of sports bloggers to watch in 2010.
  • If you’re a political blogger – write a list of political bloggers to watch in 2010.

Your list doesn’t have to be 30 bloggers – it could be 100, 50, 30, 10…. or if you have a small niche even smaller.

Once you’ve created your list…. Tell Us About It

After publishing your list – come back to this post and leave a comment with a link to your new post (please only submit new posts that have been written this year).

Also take some time to surf through the other comments left on this post to see what lists that other readers have created!

I’m looking forward to reading your lists of bloggers to watch!

These are some of my personal favorites over the past year:

  2. Great idea Darren. I find we all have our own, personal A-list, so there is no reason why there can’t be 100 of these lists for each niche, and I almost always discover someone new to follow from them.

Are you going to do one for DPS?

  3. I posted on my Blog – My List – Sites of Value

    Here’s the link:

It’s a mix of Bloggers that I keep an eye and exchange with on Twitter & Friendfeed.

  4. Great idea Darren! My industry is money and more specifically helping students save it, so I need to get researching and I will get back to you with my list, got the first one sorted ; )

  5. I got your message at my facebook wall just 5 minutes ago.

It’s an awesome idea and I’m really interested in it.

But as it mid night now, so I have to go to bed. I will surely comeback here tomorrow with my list (on make money online and SEO base).

Darren, I’m not really into list making (good idea though!). But there is one blog that has caught my attention because it’s by a 60 year old journalist and therapist who has suffered with mental health issues all his life. As a result he often gets stuck, virtually unable to get anything done.

He’s using his blog to start a 101 Day Countdown to do what his therapists have not been able to do – get unstuck and once and for all resolve problems.

Joe Lerner’s blog will report day by day on how his own strategy for getting out of his mess works. I think it’s a unqiue approach to self-help, especially when nothing has really worked so far.

    The blog is http:/www.unstickingjoeslife.com.

It may be helpful for some of your followers.

  7. One of us personal finance bloggers will be doing a list for our own, I’m sure:) – stay tuned!

  8. Great Challenge!

Here’s my list of the top ten *Saving Money* bloggers to watch right now:

    (Link above)

    Happy Reading!

  9. Great idea! I look at bloggers in other areas for inspiration and look at what they’re doing that works so I can apply those concepts.

  10. I totally enjoy reading lists from bloggers, I always find something new (discovery)!

  11. I have created a list of the top personal finance bloggers to watch with less than 10,000 RSS subscribers. These are great people making a splash in finance blogging!

  12. I would love to get some feedback on the list I just posted to my Philadelphia Phillies blog, Macho Row. I compiled a list of 25 blogs that are either solely focused on the baseball team or have a vested interest in the team.

Thank you in advance to any feedback you may have! I will try to check out as many of your lists as possible and perhaps leave a comment on your page.

  13. I created a list for dance blogs. My specific niche (worship arts) is pretty small so there are only a handful…but the quality of these sites are great!

    Wonderful idea, thanks Darren!

  14. Ok i might be a little bias here because I have know Jordan for a year or so now, but this guy is turning around the thinking of my own niche exploiting the popularity of Football Manager with http://www.fm-britain.co.uk he might not blog so much there but he is behind the sites potential to make a lot of money exploiting the high standards that have built up at that site through the years

But also with his own blog http://www.notaproblog.com using humor to make himself different in a niche that is saturated. When he gets this spot on its great, being in the early days it will be alot about him experimenting, and he does have some helpful messages within the comedy.

  15. The translation and localization industry is estimated at over US$10 Billion a year. My list of top 10 bloggers to watch in 2010 in this industry can be found here:

  16. Here’s mine: http://subject2.com/bloggers-to-watch-in-2010/

I gave a list of my favorites and asked that others add to it and we’ll create a killer list from the opinions of others.

  17. I sometimes feel that women in the tech, marketing and social media fields on the web don’t get enough recognition. The is m y effort to change that if only by a little bit.

  19. Here’s part 1 of my list of sewing and quilting bloggers to watch in 2010.

  20. Fantastic idea. I follow a lot of talented bloggers who I think will be huge this year.

  21. I think my last comment may not have gone through because of the use of anchor text? In any event, here’s my list of 50 personal finance bloggers to watch in 2010.

  22. There may be one or two here that have already been covered but these are among many of the blogs I follow.

This is a great idea and I’ve learned a lot. Thanks

  23. What a great idea Darren!! Will get working and post some interesting Food Photographers from around the web real soon.

  24. The other night I was going through my subscribed feeds and thought about doing a list like this because I’ve found some outdoor and camping blogs I really enjoy reading. I’m stuck away from my computer… and now I’m anxious and can’t wait to get back so I can make my list!

  25. Wow what a Great Post Darren, loved it to bits. I am a very new blogger after setting up my blog last month and I know how hard it is to build a reputation and get a solid base of followers! Well I have shown you a little link love in my post! Anyway I have written a post of my favorite bloggers that I follow with a small explanation as to why and a screenshot of their respective blogs as well.! Keep up the Good work Darren, And All the Best to all the bloggers reading your post!

    Phillip Dews

  26. This is a great idea to get some of the less popular bloggers some traffic to their site to showcase their blog.

  27. I’m working on a “Faith Bloggers to Watch in 2010” list over at http://BeDeviant.com.

This is a great idea! Thanks for the tip. Hopefully I’ll get this finished for press tomorrow.

  28. Darren,

Thank you for this post. Finally here it is:

    11 Famous Food Photographers

    These food photographers are:

    • Most Famous Food Photographers
    • Seafood Photographers
    • Simple food photographs

  29. I’m excited to read all of the lists… I’m almost one month in to my blog ( http://www.building-character.net/ ). For blogging inspiration, I’ve primarily followed problogger.com and manvsdebt.com.

I’m actually having a hard time connecting with people with similar interests. Perhaps it’s because I’m not sure what ‘box’ I should be placed in. I’m sort of home improvement, sort of self-improvement, sort of family… I’m actually ‘other’ on blog carnival… I don’t like ‘other’.

This assignment that you’ve handed out should be insightful… I look forward to digging through the results!

  30. I am pretty new to reading (and writing) blogs, and my niche is dersonal development, but I don’t really know many PD blogs. The ones I follow are:

I’d really like some suggestions of other good personal development blogs to follow.

    anyone got a list?

  31. Wow, I am so flattered to read this blog post. I am actually making a New Year’s resolution to post more often to my blog. In fact, I get ideas all the time and you have just given me one here. Yes, things have been busy, but I’ll tell you, ALL of your observations on the marketing aspects of blogging are “spot on”.

  32. Me!

Traffic has grown 100% since 2008
