Boost Your Blog #8: Incentivize Your Email Opt-in

Posted By Darren Rowse 6th of September 2011 Blog Promotion 0 Comments

Continuing our discussion of things you should be doing right now to improve your blog, today’s tip is:

8. Add an incentive to your email opt-in

Chris Garrett suggested this one on Google+ when I raised the topic of this post, and he’s a guy who has seen real benefit from doing it.

Chris offers a couple of ebooks when you subscribe to his list, and from what I can tell it significantly increase the opt-in rates to his lists. Of course, increased opt-ins can lead to many benefits over the life of your blog.

Have you incentivized your list subscription? Can you do it today?

  1. It’s worked a treat for me over the past year… ;]

  2. I want to incentivize my email opt in, but I just don’t know what to use! I’ve no ebooks to give away, and really don’t fancy writing one for the sake of it

    What else can you use?

    • Create a 1-2 page report on your topic/niche and talk about the most important factors in the niche.. maybe highlight a few stories, ideas, tips, interview interesting people etc

Hope I shed some points you can use:)

      Cheers

  3. Darren —

I LOVE this series. It’s gotten me to do some things I should have done a while ago. Why not repeat it once a month as an ongoing reminder to do these things.

As far as today’s topic goes, it’s one I’ve been contemplating. Just have to find time to develop the offering!

  4. Darren, I subscribe to a blog regardless of if they offer an ebook or a report or not. If their content is what I am looking for, than that’s good enough. Once or twice, I have subscribed only to get the ebook – somethng I am not too proud it. That will happen if you only worked on the incentive, you will lose susbcribers.

Also, I am not interested in ebook from a newish blogger – their content will do. They have to be established and have authority in their niche to give any power to their incentive. Just my opinion.

  5. This is something that I’ve struggled with. Trying to build an email list may be one of the hardest things I’ve had to do with my online business. I’m currently giving away a sweet training on social media and I have a podcast training I’m going to give away too. I find video training’s are the best thing to give away.

  6. I just set up an email incentive last night – first one I’ve ever done – and it’s showing good results already.

It was a bit tricky to figure out all the email links so that new subscribers would get the download link and existing subscribers would get it without having to unsub and then sign up all over again, but got it worked out in the end. I do think it’s important when you offer an incentive that you also give it to the people already on your list, just to be fair.

  7. Hi Darren,

I just switched up my incentive yesterday.

Formerly I just sent out weekly newsletter updates. Now I offer 1 of my network marketing ebooks.

My squeeze page sign up’s receive 7 of my network marketing ebooks, and it’s worked quite well for me.

    Thanks for sharing the tip!

  8. This is one thing that I’ve struggled with. Attempting to build an electronic mail record may be one of many hardest issues I’ve had to do with my online business. I’m at present giving away a candy coaching on social media and I have a podcast coaching I’m going to give away too.
