AdSense Lets You Change Your Font in Ad Units

Posted By Darren Rowse 20th of February 2009 Adsense 0 Comments

AdSense have just announced a new feature that many of us have been asking for for a while – the ability to change fonts in ad units.

While there’s not an extensive choice of fonts (they allow Arial, Times, and Verdana font faces) it is better than nothing and allows publishers to tweak the way their ads look to fit with the design of their sites.

Find out how to access the new fonts via the official AdSense Blog.

  1. Yay! I have been waiting for this feature for a while now.

It will really blend the ad with my website now.

    Thanks for the information.

  2. Better than never…

  3. Darren,

Thanks for giving us the scoop. I appreciate you keeping your “eyes” out.

    John

  4. That’s actually great news. Even with only three to choose from, they’re by far the most popular three fonts.

Not that I’m going to bother modifying mine, though.

  5. Working on many of your Adsense tips. Trying this new feature from Adsense is something I am looking forward to.

Keep up with teaching us how to use Adsense more effective on our blogs.

    Cheers..

  6. Technically, this was always available, but only for the premium publishers, right? I’m glad that this is finally available to everyone. Two of the fonts they have will be perfect for my sites.

I just noticed at the same time as you, have already started to use it!

    Fantastic change on AdSense end!

  8. This is a change in the right direction.

  9. So now I will have to change the font of my all website according to that. Personally I feel that verdana looks better in the given choice and I am going to use that one.

    Its really a great news.

  10. What? No Helvetica?

  11. @TYCP Entertainment Magazine: Yup, this was available for the premium publishers for a very long time!

It’s kinda odd that now that we have this feature, almost all the comments on the official AdSense blog is about that people needs a new font, of course without a thanks for the feature. Wait, this is not an odd thing! That’s how humans are :)

Anyways, seemingly this feature was requested by the Webmasterworld users. An AdSense insider (AdSenseAdvisor) asked them to create a list with the top 5 features they’d like to see in AdSense and this was one of the non-official and probably the only well-thought feature request. Here’s the thread if anybody is interested: http://www.webmasterworld.com/google_adsense/3790002.htm

  12. *looks at the calendar* 2009. It’s almost been 6 years since it was launched and this is just now becoming a feature?

I mean don’t get me wrong I love Google as much as the next person but doesn’t that strike anyone else as off? ;)

  13. It would be very nice to change fonts of adsense ads. Lets see how can I utilize it for my blog.

@Gray thanks for your info and the forum thread. It was informative.

  14. Well it’s good news and should help with ad blending but I’d really like to see some more significant updates from AdSense.

  15. I have just received an email from Google Adsense regarding this feature. Great news for me. At least I could tweak the ads a bit. =)

  16. You’re always on top of it Darren! Great job! :)

  17. wow. After the long wait. Finally, they realized that it is badly needed. Thanks for the buzz.

  18. That’s definitely a good news for us. Thank you for sharing.

  19. That is great! It never looks good when a site has its advertisements in a totally different font type than the main text.

  20. Yes, this new technique of Google Adsense has been the talk-of-the-town today. But I am not really amazed although it may help a bit.

I think they can do better next time around.

    Thanks for sharing though.

  21. Great idea and hopefully it will increase conversions :)

  22. Seems to me that Google guys will bring a lot changes in coming days. They are also feeling the heat of less earning.

Lets hope … we will be able to earn more like earlier.

  23. Working on many of your Adsense tips. Trying this new feature from Adsense is something I am looking forward to.

  24. Great idea. The more options the better. I wonder which works best.

  25. Been waiting for this for quiet some time now and looks like I have a lot of things to do this weekend.

  26. Thanks for the heads up Darren. Google should have done this long time back but then better late then never.

  27. It is kinda funny how Google can spend so much money on development but can be so slow to implement what someone outside the company thinks would be good.

  28. Gary, thanks for that thread. It’s interesting!

  29. I’ve changed the font for some of my Adsense unit, but yet to see the increasing of clicks, still maintain the same. But I don’t care about these, as long as there is no decreasing on the number of clicks haha!

    Lee
