A very easy and enjoyable task for you today: read a magazine!
Old media has the potential to help you improve your “new media” blog in any number of ways from marketing ideas to design ideas, to content ideas and more. I give a few areas to look out for as you’re browsing, but for the most part, in that first flick-through, just see what jumps out at you. What piques your interest, what makes you reach for your notebook to jot down a few things?
I give a list of items you’ll need for today’s challenge in the show notes, and some tips and questions to ask yourself to help you get the most out of this session.
The value of this exercise lies in stepping away from your own blog for a little while, and gaining some fresh ideas and perspectives.
Interesting coming across your post today Darren. I’d just gotten back from the shops with the August edition of ‘Men’s Fitness’ and as I was having a quick flick through it I was thinking about what I can use and incorporate in my blog, looking for ideas.
I’ll definitely be going through it again with the recommendations from your podcast.
Thanks,
Alex
Hi Darren,
An apt tip here.
It is very easy (as one grows older and more experienced) to see that the ‘old structures’ have a ton of lessons and benefits that would certainly mean success for the ‘new’. Quite unfortunately, it is never easy seeing things in such light when starting out.
The success of magazines alone leaves many clues as to why they were, until more recently, hugely popular and successful. Tapping from such awesome wisdom would only be logical.

Enjoy the day!

I have never been a fan of reading magazines unless it was a magazine about Linux or computer programming. I very seldom read through a article, I mostly just scan through until something jumps out at me.
Great post! It seems amazing idea about Using a Magazine to Improve Your Blog. Many will be happy to read this. Thanks for sharing.
I like the idea of improving a blog by reading a magazine. I am heading to the library later today. I think reading – a lot – in general is a way to better blogging.
