I’ve had loads of fun participating.. but next time, could you get my name right? (Damien)
Thanks for doing this, Darren–I’m in the midst of starting my own blog, and seeing where others went wrong (and right!) is very helpful.
[…] Darren at Problogger (the other Darren), has posed one of his inimitable rhetorical questions. This time the question is “what would I do different if I started my blog today“. I think this should be easy enough to answer. When I first started I think I did a number of things well, but there’s a couple glaring weaknesses that stand out: […]
Darren, I’ve read a few of the posts now and it’s great to see how others are getting along but one thing that seems to keep cropping up, both in these posts and in the previous 1 question series is ‘time’. If I could start a year earlier, if i had realised how long it would take, if i had know how long i would need to spend posting and messing. Without getting into the subject of search engine results and google’s sandbox. Seems like most people come into blogging thinking it will be something quick but then something which works really well takes timmmmmmme. Just a thought.
sorry DamiEn – fixed :-)
Great work Darren!
This will keep me busy trying to create a matrix of layout sucuss vs perceived issues, or perhaps a satisfaction rating by platform, who knows where it will go.
Ahh the mind of an Engineer…
[…] Darren over on ProBlogger is asking bloggers what they would do differently if they had to start over again. The title of my post says it all for me, “Blogging to Infinity and Beyond.” No, I don’t mean I would start a blog about Buzz Lightyear or about space or about numbers. To me, the phrase “blogging to infinity and beyond” is about having fun. That’s what blogging should be about — having fun. […]
Excellent article idea…as I am technically on my second incarnation of my first blog (I switched to wordpress.com when my freebie blog hosting site wanted to charge me for what I found to be inferior service) and am taking some downtime from my writing there, this is a timely topic to me :)
I noticed a problem with the url for “If I had to start my blog Again by Costa.” The correct url should be (start was spelled wrong):
http://ahpek.blogsome.com/2006/07/25/if-i-had-to-start-my-blog-again/
[…] Darren Rowse began posting the first entries of the “If I Had to Start My Blog Again” thing over at ProBlogger today. So far, some interesting ideas, but the one thing I noticed was how many folks (myself included) used the same lyric from Sinatra’s “My Way”: […]
[…] This post is in response to ProBlogger’s prompt: “If I had to start my blog again…” […]
Well, I found this late, but “If I had to Start My Blog Again” I would have done this much earlier than I did.
