88 More ‘How To’ Articles – Group Writing Project Submission Part 2

Posted By Darren Rowse 20th of September 2006 ProBlogger Site News 0 Comments

How-To
It’s day 2 of this week’s group writing project and below you’ll find another 88 submissions (a total of 151 so far in the full list).

Thanks again to this week’s sponsors (New Homes, Webmaster-Talk.com forums, Google Tutor and OwnMySeat.com) of the gifts that will be awarded to 5 random participants (full details of the $1800 of gifts up for grabs at the bottom of this post).

As usual – the submissions below are varied. We have a few non english blogs participating in this round which is great and a massive diversity in topics covered. I hope you enjoy them – I know I did when I surfed through them all this afternoon.

It’s not too late to participate – you’ve got two more days to get your submissions in by following the process outlined here. Enjoy!

Prizes

At the end of the week once all submissions are in I’ll randomly select five submissions who will each receive one of the following five prizes:

  • One week complimentary stay (for up to 4 people) at a beach front apartment in Estepona on the Costa del Sol Spain (pictured above). This prize must be taken in the next 12 months and the winner must cover all their own costs in getting to Spain (ie this is for the cost of the accommodation only). If the prize cannot be taken by the winner they can also take an iPod (video) instead (by negotiation with the sponsor). This prize (valued at 1000 euros if taken in the peak season) has been kindly donated by New Homes on Nubricks.com. Thanks to Adam and Chintan.
  • $100 Cash (in your paypal account) OR a month long text link in the Webmaster-Talk.com forums. This prize sponsored by Webmaster-Talk.com forums – thanks to Tim and his team.
  • A Personal license for ExpressionEngine including a personal license for the forums module (worth $149). This prize is sponsored by Marcus from Nanoblogs.de
  • A $149 yearly plan to Audible.com OR a $100 gift voucher to iTunes (your choice). This gift has been donated by Google Tutor. Thanks to Craig for this gift.
  • $200 gift voucher from Amazon to spend on anything you like. Its been kindly donated by OwnMySeat.com. Thanks to Jason for his kind donation.

  • How to do lot’s of cool things with Qobble.com

    My 2 cents ;)

  • Just sent my entry – hope I am not too late. There’s a bit of reading now to get through.

  • The “pumping gas” entry looks like it is the wrong link.

  • Hey, that’s my pumping gas entry. Thanks for mentioning it, Mike. Here’s the correct link:

    http://mudguard.blogspot.com/2006/09/how-to-avoid-pumping-gas-for-28-years.html

  • The http://www.budgetglobetrotting.com/ link is also wrong. To the author of the blog, I would suggest using permalinks on your blog. They will help a lot with SEO to your blog.

My vote goes to “how not to sell stuff on ebay”.

  • changed the pumping one – thanks Mike and sorry musing

In terems of the budget globe trotting one they gave me the link I’ve used but it looks like an advanced post which isn’t live yet. Hopefully it’ll actually be published soon enough and the link will work fine.

I’m not sure why people submit links that are not active yet (it happens every project I run).

  • IReally enjoying these links.

Would it be possible to adjust the spelling on the http://www.harrowdrive.com link from ‘trian’ to ‘train’?

No doubt it’s my fat fingers at work.

  • It’s amazing to see in one place the wide variety of minds at work. We should write a compilation book, “The Ultimate How-To!” Thanks Darren! thus says churchpundit!

  • Pingback: Essential Software List()

  • Churchpundit, that is a pretty good idea! I am sure everyone here would write an article to get their name and URL in print. Any good publisher would see a great opportunity here.

  • I agree! Someone call up Penguin Publishers!!! Darren… let’s go… do it!

  • Thanks for the entry Darren.

  • wow, i love the book idea!
i’ve only been blogging for a month now, and i hope i can keep it up :)
this project has been very interesting for me, i’ve visited some blogs (and really enjoyed them) that i wudn’t have read otherwise. i hope some ppl feel that way about my blog!

  • Someone write a how to on how to write a book quick!

oh dang.. it’s past thursday lol

  • Thanks for posting my entry Darren… I actually think mine is somewhat useful… well for some people in the small niche I wrote about anyway.

  • Wow, what a day I’ve had. Darren was kind enough to include my entry into the project last night.

I woke up this morning to 33,000 visitors. Someone (I can only imagine one of the readers of this blog) Dugg the story on Digg.com and it has been on the Most Popular page most of the day.

By the time the day ended, I had almost 60,000 unique visitors to my humble site.

I can’t thank you enough Darren, and the kind reader who Dugg it. I never imagined such traffic.

I’m trying to get a brand new, very tiny site noticed, and you’ve all helped beyond my wildest dreams. I’m in the process of putting links on that page to those posts in this project I’ve particularly liked and are somehow related to astronomy.

Thank you so much Darren and ProBlogger readers! Please let me know how I can pay it forward.

BTW, The comments on Digg about the article are way funnier than anything I could have come up with, you should check ’em out if you get the chance. There are some smart and funny people on that site.

  • Thanks Darren for adding my entry.. I think i have really benefitted from this project a bit.. anyways i hope to see much more from you in the future.. I have actually a nice increase in my traffic toda though..

  • While my site hasn’t had nearly the increase in visitors that Tony has experienced, I have had a nice little bump as a result of the writing project. For that I have to thank Darren and ProBlogger.

It has been exciting to be a part of this writing project and I have also had the fortune of finding a few new sites related to my niche. Thanks!

  • Hi Darren! I hate to be a pest, but the title of my blog “how-to” is

How to make more money by working fewer hours

The name of my blog is EAS’ Helpful Info for Small Business.

Thanks so much Darren! I’ve had some great visitors at my blog the last two days!

  • Ahh well, as quickly as it came, it went away. I have no idea why, but the story is no longer listed on Digg. It was #2 on the week’s most popular but something happened and it has disappeared.

I can’t find it ANYWHERE. I guess it must have been buried.

    Traffic has plummeted.

Lesson: enjoy it while it’s there, but don’t count on it.

Sure was a fun couple of days…

    Thanks again!
    Tony

  • @Toni Darnell: Great site! I was blown away by the Hubble Ultra Deep Field video. Awesome storytelling!

Couldn’t resist. I had to write a small note about it: http://performancing.com/node/4416
