See the full sized video at YouTube.
If you’re looking for a blog job don’t forget to check out the ProBlogger Job Boards mentioned in the video.
So sad I am on the move, and can’t see the video :-(
Can’t wait – would check it out as soon as I can!!
Thanks, I would love to join and see if I could get to more exposure into the blogging sphere, to let more people know my talent…
Thanks Darren… I think we could all use a little extra income these days. Always appreciate your effort to try to help too. Take care.
I think that the topic or the niche of the blog is really important. Some people are blogging about somethings that less internet surfers are interested in. And this will absolutely hinder your traffic levels.
Hi Darren
Superb Wonderful video post
Thanx I did learn many things.

http://www.tips4blogging.co.cc for blogging tips and hacks.
part-time is not good choice for blogging.
Great video Darren… Really inspired to land a blogging job.
It does take time, but getting your work out there, developing your niche and becoming active on forums and networks really does work. I do have one gig at another blog that I landed when they found my own blog, talked with me a bit on Twitter and approached me via the email link on my blogs “about” page about writing for their site. It’s a nice little ongoing gig, and gives me hope that there is more work out there for me :)
Very clever sponsor. Subtle advertising. I never cared about eHow.com until now!
Nice tips Darren. I learned a lot from these. I am on hunt for a blogging job these days and these tips will really help me out.
A nice common-sense rundown on what’s needed; it’s helpful to have all these activities lined up in order. Job hunting tends to knock the order out of me…
Insightful one!!.
I strongly believe several people are looking at internet for their income, be it primary or secondary. With these trends, I fear if we could face a saturation in the near future. What’s your take on it.
I am a professional writer and write mostly for blogs and websites. This is a good tutorial for getting started, but the first thing you should remember: professionalism in your writing is paramount.
The difference between a Professional and a Profeshional are huge.
Being a niche writer is important, but not nearly as important as ability and knowledge. Being able to make your deadlines is also very important.
Great video!
Great advice as usual!
I believe a lot of bloggers look for blogging jobs because they haven’t yet succeeded in making money with their own blogs.
In the long run, I think bloggers are better off investing most of their time in their own blogs as opposed to selling post after post…
ehm..thanks for that 5 tips. I believe its really a big help.
I was not aware that eHow actually pays. That was a good info! Thanks Darren
I do blog and have a niche. The only problem that I face is repetition…can I write about something which I have already blogged about? Now wouldnt that be repetitive?
Thanks a lot Darren for this helpful video, I really enjoyed it.
I agree with you. It’s a good idea to take advantage of tons of opportunities out there to grow our profile and brand ourselves. eHow is one of them.
Like you mentioned, using social networks is another good resource for marketing our websites and blogs. Facebook and Twitter, to name a few.
Getting a blogging job is really based on your interests and passions. Once you find them, you only need to develop them. If you learn how to blog with love, then the rest will be so simple.
Thank you Darren again for giving away your valuable tips.
Cheers,
Hooshmand
Thanks… I’ve always wanted to make a living by blogging.
Exactly what I need now that I’m really on the hunt for a blogging job.
thanks for providing this tips, I am making blogging as my main job and I need many advice from others
This is a great video and sage advice. Many of us out there are looking for jobs blogging, I am actually almost done with your book and I have applied many of your tips to my blogging network. Thanks again,
Jessica

A good post, very appropriate for these tough times…
@needmoney.com: Thanks for your offer about checking my articles in English (translated from my original language)… I will keep your offer on my mind if I decide to write a guest post.
I agree with all your points, but you should also advise people to become aware of who else is blogging in their area of expertise. There are a number of ways of doing this with Google Alerts. It isn’t just the specific hits that you get, but the sources of those results. Over time you will know who is most frequently cited by Google Alerts for your keywords. You can then approach them with a sound background in what they’ve already published. Maybe you can present them with a new take on their favorite themes, or you can challenge them to a friendly debate on their blog. I have an example of a public Google Alerts account for one of the top bloggers, Robert Scoble, that can show you the type of results you can get from Google Alerts.

This can give your readers some ideas of the types of alerts a professional blogger should maintain.
I think this economy will force a lot of people to ge 2 or 3 different jobs to makes ends meet.
A lot of people have great experience and they can teach that experience to others so it makes total sense for them to seek blogging jobs!
Miss Gisele B.
Thanks for the great tips. I agree with what you said to develop a web presence before trying to land jobs on other people’s sites. Also, to have a passion about what you are blogging about does make a difference, and not picking a variety of topics to blog about, but specialize in one topic.
appreciate the video. :)
Yeah, I am still hiring actually.
Blogging jobs are great for employers too but im guessing thats another story in itself. I run a site where we recently hired 2 part time bloggers and are looking for a guest blogger to post from time to time.
If anyone knows football NFL or CFL and can actaully write, then drop me a line. emails on my website.
thanks problogger guys.

THIS ECONOMY FORCE a lot of people think out of the way to make ends meet.
I am trying to experiment day trading as one way and blogging as another. Well both are not easy
Blogging and getting a blogging job are two different things. Job is probably that of a writer. It’s good for those who prefer not have a blog of their own. Guess the video will be of utmost help to them.
I have to agree with Axel G about this issue. Bloggers look for blogging jobs because they feel like their own blogs aren’t working out too well for them. I’ve taken the path of building my own blog and yes, it is disheartening at first and very difficult to see your stats stagnate at just a couple of visits per hour and with nobody linking to your posts. But the best advice is what Darren here keeps telling people, if you believe in something and you’re passionate, just keep working at it, keep building and one day things will change, like minded individuals will stumble upon your blog and word of mouth will help spread the word.
Darren, thanks for the video but you might want to consider breaking up message…7 minutes of close up head shots is pretty intense..and while you’re a good looking guy, you might consider putting in graphics or something to further clarify your message to make it more memorable.
Take the 7 minutes and break into 3 two minutes..more people will watch, i bet..
Again thanks for the info, just a suggestion.
Joe
Darren: I learned several things from your video. The one that stands out the most is that using video puts not only a face, but a personality with a name. You used the video well. I felt like you were talking to me, not the masses. You were able to make the information feel personal. I have not used video to promote my work, but I can now see what a powerful tool it is.
I have been doing many of the other steps you gave. I guest post on 2 local real estate agents’ sites (for link love, not money) about home staging, interior design & feng shui and SocMedia101.com about using social media for beginners. I’m not making money from these guest posts but it is building my SOI (sphere of influence).
Eventually, I would like to monetize some of my blogging, but for now I’m building a presence.
Thanks again for the great tips.
That seems like a great way to make some extra money. Good advice as always.
Good video. Make writing a habit and build it into your day, you WILL get better and faster over time…and more creative.
It’s easy to say that it’s you should host your own blog and keep the advertising profits for yourself vs writing or another blog network but it’s a very good option for those of us who want to have someone else do the design and get the ad sales. In all instances, lots of hard work is required. Not an easy job by any means.
Great stuff Darren. I enjoy reading your posts and hearing your insight.
Funny, I was just thinking today that I needed to find more places to guest post to build my online presence and authority. I was actually approached by another female blogger yesterday from Blog Catalog that asked me to write a post. It’s a great feeling for those opportunities to start coming in!
I, along with others, get so very anxious wanting to see instant results and money start pouring in. I know that after only 4 months of blogging I’m off to a decent start and your tips will be essential in continuing to build on what I’ve done so far. Thank you so much for sharing all your expert advice!
I disagree with the idea that you need prior experience in a niche. Unless is is something highly technical like Small Sampling Techniques a person can read like crazy and learn.
A technique to get work is write directly to badly written blogs. I had done that successfully for websites about three years ago.
Provides good information. Tx.
I do not recommend eHow. I have tried to sign up there multiple times, and their website has rejected me. Most websites allow people over 13, but theirs seems to only allow people over 18. To bad.
[If you are a eHow employee, you are welcome to contact me through my website and work this out…just a thought. ;) ]
i think ehow is a good site. i did not know that they also pay you for making a content on their site.
Some good tips there. Thanks!^^
Very nice tips. I don’t know why but I think a video comes over more personal than writing the tips down in a post.
Good advice as always Dareen, thanks.
Good advice as always Darren, thanks.
Darren,
Your post was instructive, interesting, and offered value to me (as does all your output I’ve seen, read, etc.). It is good to see you on video, it helps me to add a dimension to someone I follow, who graciously allowed me to connect with him on LinkedIn.

Darren first of all excellent post. I find creating your web presence to be one of the key aspects when looking for work as a blogger. Your list was excellent personally a couple thing I would like to add are writing and submitting articles to top article directories ezinearticles.com and buzzle.com and also when trying to get yourself known within the blogosphere commenting on other people’s blogs especially ones you would like to guest post or work for is crucial. This give you a chance to introduce yourself and get aquainted with the type of blogging you will be expected to do. It also give you some examples of what level of writing you should have before applying. Anyway excellent post.
I’m new to blogging and absorbing everything like a sponge. Your video post gave me great ideas on how to become a great blogger in general. If that leads to primary or secondary income streams someday, very cool. In the meantime, my own blog will be better for everything I’m learning from you. Thanks for this and all your other useful posts.
Hello
I found the video very informative, but in my experience as a fairly successful blogger, landing a regular blogging job is more a question of numbers.
I have been a freelance writer now for four months, in which time, I have written several articles for various websites, and have landed three good blogging jobs.
I use sites like getafreelancer to find work, and have had days where quite literally, i have applied for twenty plus jobs I felt I was well suited too, and not received a single reply.
Then out of the blue, comes work from jobs, which I believed I had little or no chance of landing.
Though I do not dispute the tips in the video, I do feel that in many instances, you should just apply for everything and see what happens. The more you apply for the more work you will receive.
You’d be amazed how quickly you can learn about a subject when there is time and money involved, and the research experience you gain is invaluable.
