4% of ProBlogger Readers are Six Figure Bloggers

Posted By Darren Rowse 20th of May 2006 Pro Blogging News 0 Comments

Early results after 24 hours on this week’s poll show that 12% of ProBlogger readers are earning over $1000 per month from blogging and 4% are earning over $10,000 (making them six figure bloggers if they average that over a year).

At the other end of the spectrum 25% don’t earn anything.

I wish now I’d put two categories of the ‘earn nothing’ category, one for ‘I tried but earned nothing’ and another for ‘I haven’t tried’. I’d be interested if you are one of the 100 voters in this category to hear which you are in comments of the post announcing the poll.

Of those who have earned something it is the ‘under $10 category’ that is most common followed by the $100 to $499 a month category (15%).

Interestingly this survey I added a $15,000 or more category (last time the top one was a $10,000 or more one) and it has actually been voted in more than other lower levels (3% of total vote so far).

if you haven’t voted yet I’d love to include you in my informal little study.

  1. Pretty Quick Results !!

But can you depend upon this stats ??

  2. I think that the transformation from 0-100 is always slower than the transformation from 100-1000. Unless you cheat.

    A.H

  3. I think the reliability of the poll result should be ok.
I am keen to know any cool tips to implement to make your site began making money.
I think I have found my niche. So, I guess my blog will begin to flap its wing and break the first $100 soon. :)
    Cheers!

  4. I don’t really like earning from my blog as it’s more of a personal collection of thoughts…… So no ads, and monetization for me as of now.

  5. You may need to differentiate between indirect and direct earners.

I know my AdSense earnings don’t even hold a candle to other AdSense experts, but my revenue is generated via other IRL methods that are not equally as comparable.

It’s like apples and oranges man. Maybe two new polls are required.

  6. I am under $10, and I hope I will pass to the next category soon

  7. hi
Just tell me how to earn something like $100 to $400 per month.

  8. You could add “I haven’t earned anything because I had no blog in April” option to 0$ category. I’d fall to that one.

Reading ProBlogger it’s hard to imagine that as many readers/voters didn’t earn anything.

  9. How many posts do you need ? to have decent traffic, I’m stuck with 7 visitors a day or less :(

  10. The poll is an interesting one. Now, there should be a new poll about the successful bloggers (how are they making so good money) and about the unsuccessful bloggers (why they cannot make money at all). I think this is very important.

  11. Your survey os pretty good! Blogging is one of the major business for most people but hard part is that all of them r not able to earn as much their expectations.
So somebody’s gain and somebody’s loss!

  12. six figures?

    I was happy to see 7% getting $500 – $999.

I find that inspirational and do-able.

now I just gotta do it! :-)

  13. Hmmm….

    Interesting indeed!

There is a risk that people put all their eggs in one basket and forget that there is a whole world of online earning potential out there. While I may be in the top 5% when it comes to websites I still earn very little from my blogs.

As you keep saying Darren, consistency is key in any endeavor…

  14. I’m in the didn’t really try category. I’ve got some place-holder ads that are there to keep people from grumbling too much when I do start putting an effort into things.

I get around 100 to 200 visitors a day. But my visitors are interested in health issues and I wouldn’t want to risk adSense posting come-on ads from companies selling fake no/low fat products or fake diet scams. So whatever I do, I’ve got to have control over what appears on my site.

And that’ll take more research. And it might mean that I’ll have to have a lot more traffic to make money off the site.

  15. News Floozy: Border War = Iraq; Gitmo & Catch 22; Blog for Money; Malkin Not Amused; Sex

It is Saturday again, so you know what that means – housecleaning + blogging!  I set up my laptop on a bookshelf that I walk by as I clean house and blog.  The music to clean house by today?  Jimmy…

  16. I just recently became a four-figure blogger kind of haphazardly – which is to say, I haven’t completed my first year yet, but that’s what it’s looking like. I’d love to see more content directed towards average users like us.

  17. If those who voted for 15,000 telling the truth…then I am sure I will get into that figure too.
But I still doubt it , you know. :d

  18. I’ve put a serious effort out in the last month and should be close to eight benjamin’s for my first month. :)

  19. Your poll is interesting one! But its not essential that everyone is earning that much as the other blogger is. What is the difference between the average blogger and the good blogger? Might be because of his style!!!
