In preparation for an interview on writing great blog content, I jotted down some ‘quick tips’. While they are all short I hope that they might spark some ideas – enjoy!
- Tell your story – it is what makes your content unique
- Share how you feel – it will take your readers to a deeper place
- You’ll never please everyone – the sooner you come to peace with this, the better
- Write about things that matter to you – passion is infectious
- Inform, Inspire and Interact – aim to do these things every week!
- Experiment with different styles of writing – it will help you find your voice
- Mix up the length of your posts – short can be sweet but long can be epic!
- When an idea strikes – drop everything and capture it!
- Do everything you can to understand who is reading your blog – it will make you more useful to them
- Before you publish – ask what you want your reader to do after reading your post – and edit accordingly
- Become hyper aware of problems – and obsess over writing posts that solve them
- Put aside time to create quality content – it doesn’t just appear
- Put aside time to edit and polish your posts – it will take them to the next level
- Get a life – you’ll be a much more interesting writer if you’ve lived a little
- Ask your readers questions – it will make them feel like they belong and you’ll learn a lot too!
- Take your readers on a journey – posts that build from one to another can be powerful
- Brainstorm regularly – generating ideas for future posts now can save a lot of pain later
- Not every post needs to go viral – shareable content will help you grow but it may not serve your current readers best
- Write, Write Write – the more you write, the better you will get
- Publish selectively – you don’t need to publish everything you write
What quick blog writing would you add?
NIce tips Darren, it’a very useful for me… :)
Nice tips Darren, it’s very useful for me… :)
Thanks for posting this…I was referred by a fellow blogger who thought I needed a “hint” about why I might lack an audience. He would not elaborate, but sent me a link to ProBlogger and others. Your post reminded me why I started blogging in the first place. I might be small, but I still have a story to tell…or several different stories…but at 56 followers after only a few months, I can’t complain. I think you are spot on with numbers 3 and 4. I am almost ready to take my writing to the next level, just need to narrow my focus a bit, find my target, and hopefully, my aim will be true.
Great tips – bite-sized info like this is link-bait gold too
Practicing a good habit of thinking that “Is my content is suitable enough to come at the front results of search engine” before clicking on publish button.
Great quick post Darren.
I particularly like, and agree, with number 14. The more you know and share, the more interested your readers will be.
Great tips. It’s very enlightening for me.
Some great tips here. My tip is not to write guest posts just for the links. Not only is Google cracking down on guest posting campaigns, but that’s not the right way to go about things. Write a guest post to capture the audience of the blog you’re writing on because the readers are a lot more valuable than the links.
Hi Joshua,
What do you mean by Google cracking down on guest posting campaigns? Do you mean like blog hops? I don’t understand what their problem is with me having guest writers. Clarify svp…
Great tips bro. There is no replacement of hard work and passion on the subject matter when you are trying to write a great blog. There is no easy lunch. Thanks.
Nice article!
Teached me things, i didn’t know about YET!
Thanks for this!
Very good work!

I’m printing this and taping it near the wall behind my monitor… thanks!
All the Basic skills need to become a good writer is there in the post. The idea of writing it in this manner is very informative as it makes easy for reader to make notes and follow it.

Awesome quick tips here, Darren! I think a good addition to the list would be creating engaging and thought-provoking headlines. I especially like the ones listed in this article: http://www.justdrivemedia.com/writing-engaging-headlines/
There millions of web content being published everyday so I think this is a really essential skill any blogger or aspiring writer should know.
