Over the next five days I’m going to run a little daily competition here at ProBlogger.
The prize – each day from Monday through to Friday I’ll be giving away an autographed copy of WordPress For Dummies by Lisa Sabin-Wilson.
I’ve seen some parts of this book already (the full thing is winging it’s way from the US as I write this) and it is a great read and well worthwhile the purchase for those starting out with and wanting to extend their knowledge of a blog platform that more ProBlogger readers use than any other.
How do you Win a Copy?
It’s simple – all you have to comment on ProBlogger over the next week. Each day of the week I’ll choose one random comment left on that particular day (on any post on the blog). That commenter will win a copy of the book – it is as simple as that.
The comments do need to be legitimate (ie – on topic and adding something to the conversation) – but you can enter as many times as you like – each comment that you leave is an ‘entry’.
I’ll announce the five winners at the end of the week.
Is WordPress just for dummies? I’m a fan of Drupal myself, but would love to know more about the ins and outs of WordPress… Great idea Darren!
Hi, Darren and Lisa thanks for international shipping
Me! Me! Me!
Mimi
I recently started a blog dealing with the emotional impact of cancer on patients, survivors and their loved ones. I’m using WordPress but need to start taking it to the next level. I get some help from a sharp young guy, but have to do much of it on my own. I read your blog regularly and its very helpful. This book sounds like just what I need!
Great offer. You are a kind man…….
Many thanks.
Looks like an interesting book! Would be interested in reading that.
This is exactly what I need! It has become clear to me after serious due diligence, and reading other posts by you and your peers, that I need to learn WP well.
Unfortunately, an extended medical recuperation has made the technically advanced guides a bit much for me.
I am indeed a tech Dummy ;)
Thank You.
(And thank you for all the great info each week)
This book is for me! I want it very much because i’m a big wordpress dummie that needs to build a blog before 2008.
I’m in – I’d like to be more knowledgeable in WOW (world of wordpress – not warcraft)
Thanks for this generous offer once again.
I’m in for this contest.
Cheers.
I’m in, Darren (knowing that I would need the book really) ;)
I’m a new user to WordPress. When I was setting up TeamRCIA.com, I had trouble getting the pages to look right in IE6. All other browsers were fine. I spent a couple of hours teaching myself more html code and WordPress goodness. No luck. So I posted my problem as a project in Elance.com. I got four bids within an hour, ranging from $250 to $50. I gave the job to the low bidder, eSCe Gigaprojects. They were fast, efficient, and friendly. And now my site looks great in any browser.
Although I’m pretty familiar with WordPress, it might be a good opportunity to have one of these books. We do have some “FOR DUMMIES” books in my country, but yours is not among them.
Count me in for the book :)
Nice blog, thanks for the contest.
Count me in!
i’d like a copy of “increase your blog hits for dummies” please…or maybe the author has already bought up all copies…
I love the “for Dummies” books, they really are good at being helpful without making you feel ashamed for being a dummy. In fact, there’s nothing to be ashamed about for being a dummy!! It just means there’s room to improve! :)
WordPress for Dummies? I could use that!
I would really like to have this book. As you can see from my website, I have WordPress in my ‘news’ section but it isn’t set up properly (someone did it for me) and I need to be able to figure out how to make it work the way it’s supposed to. I have tried the WordPress forum but find it very confusing because it assumes you know something about it and how it works, to begin with. So I would love to have WordPress for Dummies because it would help me to figure this out. Thanks,
I’ve just started blogging on blogger . . . but think that wordpress will probably be the platform for me. So, I’m looking around at websites, particularly those on blogging–great site here!
Thanks!
Richard
Darren what a great offer. I’m sure the contest will go well.
I use wordpress
I like free things
I am a dummy.
While I do not consider myself a “dummie” in other areas, I must admit I feel like a “dummie-squared” as I try to wrap my brain around blogging. I would be honored to be considered for the book give away. I actually tried to purchase it at Barnes & Noble tonight and could not find it!
So even if I’m not able to get this book, would you say it’s definitely something to put on my christmas wishlist this year? =)
In more than 4 years I had published over 2000 posts on Blogger and had more than 5500 comments on Haloscan before I moved to WordPress earlier this month. The import of all that content was tricky and time consuming but it really was worth every bit of effort.
The book sounds like a great way for me to further extend my ‘new blog’s’ capabilities.
I’m on blogger at the moment but have been thinking about making a move to wordpress. there seems to be more benefits by doing so. The book will help me out a lot.
I’m a new blogger and wouldn’t mind winning today. The more information I can learn within the next few months, the better.
I have to agree with some of the comments. There isn’t much books specifically on wordpress. There is none at a major bookstore I’ve visited today. Only 3 such books that can be found in amazon.com. Kudos to Lisa and Matt.
There is quite a bit of resouces on wordpress that can be found on the internet. But nothing can beat a good book written just on wordpress.
It will be a treasure to those who are starting or about to start blogging with wordpress.
It will be a great christmas present for me as I am getting to move on from blogger to wordpress soon.
hmm… 143 comments so far… a new world record for the most number of comments for a single post??
errr ….177 comments including this one.
Okay, I am in need of a “you-can-do-it” pep talk!?
I feel driven to create a platform for my daughter (who is an awesome author) to share her insights, etc…. We want to have the ability for others to contribute also. I was guided to WordPress by someone, but I feel so out of my comfort zone!
1. Is this really something that a middle-aged (oooh, I hate that lable, but I guess that is what I am!) mom can really create?!
2. Is WordPress the right format?
Any legitimate input from someone experienced in this field and with wordpress is highly valued – as long as it is positive, or at least kind!!
Thanks!
I like the books for dummies. It’s really straightforward and I learn a lot from it. :)
hi i love lisa design i wish to be a winner
I will soon be in the process of moving my ClubMom sponsored blog (TypePad) to a self-hosted WordPress blog. I’ll be getting some help with it, but the day-to-day maintenance will be up to me. This “dummy” will need all the help she can get. So if I don’t win a copy, I’ll be buying one over at Amazon. Thanks Darren!
This one could just give us six-figure income! But seriously, this is an invaluable gift.
When I am famous I will tell everyone it all started here, at Problogger, after I won a copy of WordPress for Dummies. I want to thank you all in advance! Don’t worry, I won’t forget any of you as I make my way up that ladder of success. :)
again I missed the chance? any chance for me to get one?
Since I didn’t win it, I decided I would buy it sometime after Christmas. Yesterday, when shopping in a mall in Madison, Wisconsin, I looked through the very skimpy computer book section at a Waldenbooks store and, surprise! there it was. One copy only. I snapped it up, of course, and will be reading it when we get back home to Arkansas. :)
He i just got married so according to my friend i am a dummie and I use wordpress….. i think their is a need here!
I am using wordpress as my blog, i want a copy.
