In the U.S alone, eBook sales have grown almost 3000% over the last 10 years. A study by eMarketer suggests that eBook sales will outgrow the sale of mobile games in the US by the end of 2015.

The rise in eBook sales, and even free eBook downloads, is a direct result of the increase in smartphone, tablet and e-reader users.

According to Pew Research, more than 50% of American adults own either a tablet, smartphone or an e-reader device, with the majority using tablets for reading eBooks.

    Amazon, for new bloggers, can bring an immense opportunity to build a list for bloggers. It’s like writing a very long article and putting it in front of thousands and more potential readers. Versus “nobody” if published on a totally new platform.

    I’m publishing my first eBook in a few weeks, has a strategy to build a list from scratch.

    I have written 123 bite-sized eBooks. I guess you could say I’m on board ;) Each reason resonates with me but more than anything ensure you’re having fun writing. That key helped me churn out eBooks like hotcakes. Amazon Kindle makes it so darn easy to write, format and publish these suckers.

    Just last night I chatted with a lady here in Costa Rica about selling eBooks. She has a creative but undermarketed eBook on Smashwords; trying to generate some pop. Methinks a switch to Amazon and a nice promo blitz would do her wonders. As for the sales they really do take care of themselves AND you will become infinitely more prolific when you just slow down, calm down and enjoy the eBook creating journey. I wrote and published 1 short eBook daily for 3 months straight. Which leads to the 123 number. I enjoyed the journey and I may even hop into the eBook writing game again but now doing the eBook promoting game in earnest for the first time. I did light promo work a few months back. Now we’re doing in full bore from a high energy, fun space to share these suckers and to inspire folks to get their blogs in order.

    The stats are telling. All around the world during my digital nomad travels folks are gobbling up eBooks on mobile devices. People are glued to these things so give ’em out for free or charge 99 cents or a few more bucks and get ’em into as many interested hands as possible. Keep on writing and promoting and you’ll really cash in while freeing a bunch of folks through your writing. Wonderful how it all works out so effortlessly when you get down to what matters most on the eBook writing front.

  6. Great post, Jawad – ten years ago it was pretty exciting to get an email from someone, but today my in-box is jam-packed with multiple newsletters I’ve subscribed to, most of which are deleted before being opened so I’m a lot more precious about handing out my email address to just anybody.

    A good quality eBook is more likely to get me to sign-up though – particularly if it specifically solves a problem I’m struggling with. And keep the sign-up forms short – name and email address is all I’ll give!

  7. Thank you so much Jawad for such an informative article. One of my biggest business goals this year is to build my email list, as I have only just started blogging within the last 6 months. I sell my 2 books through Amazon, but hadn’t considered selling them direct through my website.

  8. Great article! Thanks for this Jawad. It has given me lots to think about and add to my business plan. It is much ‘safer’ to be in control of your sales, rather than being dependent on just Amazon/Kobo/Nook etc…I definitely want to start selling my books directly through my website.

    One of my biggest aims of this year is to grow my email list so the tips from the pros will definitely help there too!

    I do own a Kindle publishing business and I can say, this space is so exciting. The fact that we can go on Amazon and pick up a short eBook for only a few bucks that completely covers a given topic is just fantastic.

    And hey, you’re right. If we can make a book that solves some problem our audience has, it’s a guaranteed win. It’s so easy to publish a book these days, there’s no real excuse not to do it in my opinion.

    Awesome Article. I used to have a huge bookcase full of books and each time i moved they were like moving an elephant! I love to read but I had to get rid of all that bulk. I got a tablet specifically to store all my ebooks..Now i literally have hundreds of books in one small device lol. Its amazing how much technology has made our lives so much easier.

    There are also so many sites you can get free ebooks from. gutenberg.org and topshelfbook.org are great sites. And if your looking for a good E-reading app aldiko is a good one and so in Moon Reader. Both are on android but they could also be available on apple, not sure.
