Likaholix – Get a Free Invite to the Alpha Here

Posted By Darren Rowse 18th of March 2009 Blogging Tools and Services 0 Comments

logo-red.gif Over the last day or two a new social network by the name of Likaholix has been released by two former Google employees. I’ve only just signed up in the last hour or so but like what I see so far.

I’ve also been given 500 invites to the closed alpha for ProBlogger readers (be fast, I just gave away 100 on Twitter and they went within 15 minutes).

Skip the rest of this post and Give me the Invite Codehere it is.

Likaholix is a little hard to describe and is best experienced – but in short:

It is a way to share and discuss your likes and discover new ones with people you know. You can ‘like’ anything from a great blog you like reading to your favorite food to some art work that you love.

ie: it is a place to share what you like and to discover the things that others in your network like. There’s integration with Twitter, FriendFeed and Facebook also. In a sense it is Digg meets facebook as there are elements of both social bookmarking and networking.

You can read more about the service here.

Want to see what it is like for yourself? The first 500 people to sign up with this link will get access to likaholix. Otherwise it is a closed alpha at this point.

OK – so lets do a group review – what do you think of likaholix?

  1. Looks interesting! I wonder how fast it will grow…

    Thanks,
    Nate

  2. Hi Darren,
Thanks a lot for the announcement. I am going to check it out, and see what they got :)

  3. Thanks for the invite, Darren. I think its difficult to say what I think of Likaholix as I just joined half-an-hour ago. It does look nice.

The only thing that I don’t like is the fact that the contest going on at Likaholix is only open to US residents.

    Hi, Darren

This is my first time comment at your blog.

    Good recommended website.

But it still in private site.

  5. I think likaholix is an interesting concept. While this initial time I’ve spent searching around and trying things out, I can not see myself spending all that much time visiting to see what others like. If nothing more, as I DM’d you Darren, it just seems like a place that information can be gathered from you…and down the road they(or whoever the info goes to) can market your face off. I’m not completely sold on it but it is a…well…it’s something else.

  6. Thanks for the invitation,
Well, to soon to say if it’s good, but at least it’s well designed.
I mean I thought I would be blocked after adding some interests, but the site helps you to add more.
    Cheers

  7. Thanks Darren, I added you in the ‘Liked’ category.. thanks for sharing the link!

Thanks for the invite. I like the concept of the site, and it looks good, but I’ll need to do a little more clicking around first. I can’t imagine it would work very well unless I can get people I know on it.

  9. Thankyou!

Seems easy enough to navigate while you are learning your way around it. I like it.

  12. I’m coming out of my persistent lurking to thank you for the free invite. I’m really having fun over at Likaholix and I’m interested to see what all can and will be done with it. It’s a little too much fun being the first person to officially like a lot of things. (Can you tell I’m a huge “sit back and watch the internet develop, grow and change” nerd?)

    Thanks again.

  13. Very interesting! This could be a great alternative to something like Tumblr if you just want to share things you like.

  14. I signed up for one of the invites. Of course my blog is anonymous and I signed up in my own name :) I think it looks like it has potential though and seems to be fun. I’ve already found some interesting new links. I can see it developing but depending very much on community building.
Will try it more over the next few weeks/months. Thanks for the opportunity!

  15. Thanks for the invite. I do like the ease of adding items/sites. Haven’t run into any bugs yet, which is pretty good for an alpha release. Time will tell how much use I get out of it, I think a lot will depend on the networking aspects of it. Right now it doesn’t appear to be easy to find out if friends are using the service without allowing access to your accounts. I hope that changes allowing a search for users.

  16. Sounds interesting. Thanks for info and invite. I will try it out.

  17. Thanks for the invite ;-) I’m trying to start a “General Aviation” thread there. Let’s wait a bit before judging it. I hope that being there early will lead to big momentum. Only time will tell

  18. Looks like an interesting idea, i am going to give it a try and see what it is like. Could become a little addictive i guess.

  19. When I saw it announced, I immediately signed up. I love good recommender systems.

I entered some likes, mostly bands, and got some very urrelated recommendations.

The way everything needs a web-address to be able to like it, is a bit restrictive, and seems to push it more in a second rate StumbleUpon direction.

I’ll give it a few more spins, but so far, I’m not too impressed.

  20. Thanks! Signed up and will be playing around with it over the next week or so to see how it does.

Surprised nobody had entered Darren Rowse as a like yet! I’ve corrected that now ;)

Thanks for the invite, Darren. Pretty easy to use, from what I tried of it. I added a couple of likes, and I’ll be interested to see the recommendations it generates. Not sure if I’ll use it on a regular basis.

  22. Interesting. I don’t really see any new concepts though. I’ll give it some time and see what happens.

  23. Thanks Darren.

I have signed up!.. And I like You Now! (sounds weird.. should say I follow you Now!.. but thats LIKAHOLIX words).. :).

  24. Thanks for the invitation Darren, I’m going to enjoy exploring the site and trying it out.

  25. Ah, just what the world needs – another social media site. :)

  26. thanks a lot for this info darren, but i think i will not use this tools for my blogs

  27. Got into it. Checking out its features Darren. It looks like this startup will grow in leaps and bounds in the time to come.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

  28. Thanks for the invite. I’m not sure I’ll use it much; I have a facebook account that I rarely use as it is. But I’ll give it a whirl.

  29. I just dabbled on likaholix.com for a bit and I can already say that it’s something my friends, family and I have desperately needed. I even went as far as creating a sort of exclusive social network on Ning so that we could all share with each other instead of mass-emailing every time we find something interesting on the Web.

Thanks for the invite! Looking forward to exploring even more.

  30. Thanks, for the invite! Seems similar to stumbleupon.

  31. I’ve been playing around with it. I like things that can take my likes and recommend other things I’m likely to enjoy.

So far, the recommendations are fairly limited, but then, this isn’t even as far as beta yet.

Don’t know how great it will be as a networking tool, but it’s got possibilities as a recommendation tool.

One thing it really needs is a dislike button as well as a like button, so it can narrow recommendations.

Netflix’s recommendation system is extremely good. It looks at how you rate items on a 1 to 5 scale and it compares it to other’s ratings of the same items to make recommendations. I’ve found it pretty darn accurate. I’d love to have something like that which extends beyond just movies and TV shows.

  32. Looks nice but i can’t add a profile picture unless I have a facebook account :(

  33. I went ahead and signed up. I was only able to add one like until the site stopped working for me. I think it is because I am using windows vista 64 or something. Plus the site is in alpha. I will try again later.

I would really like to win that Amazon Kindle though.

  34. It sounds like a great idea. I’m signed up and now have an account. But can’t seem to add any likes…

I type in something I like, hit the button and… nothing.

    Adam

  35. I joined this morning. Still a little glitchy, but I like it so far.

  36. Hint: Like submissions go through the 2nd time you try them, if they don’t on the 1st try.

  37. I tried this out a couple weeks ago. There are a lot of really pointless things online. Some have value and some don’t. I don’t think likaholix, on any level, has any value or I am massively missing the point.

  38. Thanks so much I signed up!! Taking it for a test drive!! So far I love it!!

  39. This is pretty addicting. I think this site will take off.

    Thanks for the invite!

  40. Robin/Adam, we were having some technical issues this morning. It should be fixed now.

    Thanks
    Bindu

  41. Thanks for the invite Darren!

Its quite a good way of knowing the likes of people around you. Good for selecting gifts on some special days.

  42. Thanks for the invitation, Darren. I took a look around and it looks promising, as both a social/marketing networking tool and an opportunity to see what other people like and utilize.

  43. Is this one another big think knocking at the door. In past few years we have witnessed many things which turned themselves into big name such as stumbleupon, digg, twitter are few of them.

  44. Thanks for the tip. I think that the Likaholix site will prove to be very addictive! It will be interesting to see how fast this site gets big.

  45. Thanks for turning us on to Likaholix Darren, I went there immediately, was able to get first dibs on my favored screen name “TheHermanator”, and got to “Like” a bunch of music, and some books real fast !
This seems like it will take off real quickly, and it’s nice to be ahead of the wave for a change !

  46. I received an invite to Likaholix and so far I do like the setup also. I is easy to use and submit. Although I don’t understand how the friend finder works, The rest is working great for me.

    Thanks for the Invite.
After one day of trying it out I’m not really sure it will work…
I love the idea of a sort of Stumbleupon for all kinds of stuff, and I can see it being a good connection for your network, but the recommendations seem off.

Even though it’s only in Alpha-phase, the recommandations I’m recieving from out of my network are terribly off. Mostly because people tag (or topic when you use the in-site term) often wrongly. I’m a fantasy fan, but so far the only books that have been recommended for me because of my interest in fantasy weren’t fantasy at all. Except for the 6 different entries for Lord of The Rings… I can only imagine how this will end up when it goes out of test-phase…

I’m not a big fan of the design either, it often seems cluttered and ill organised.

  48. Interesting.. hope I can still join the group.

  49. Great thanks. I am trying it out.

  50. oh…no, I am late
