One of the best new resources for those wanting to make money from blogging is a new eBook (and available as a ‘real’ book is How to Build a Successful Blog Business by Collis Ta’eed.
I had the opportunity to read this great new book last week and was really impressed by the mix of solid teaching, practical tips and fantastic case studies.
Collis Ta’eed is the creator of some highly successful blogging businesses – Envato, Tuts+, Freelance switch and AppStorm. He’s built something with his great team from scratch to be some of the most popular and profitable blogs going around. He’s someone that I respect so much that I’ve invited him to speak at the upcoming Melbourne bloggers day net week.
Topics in the book include a wide array of things including
- an introduction to
- teaching on how to plan and research your new blog
- tips on creating a brand, naming your blog, choosing domains and design
- a variety of teaching on staffing your blog
- content – how to write it, editing content, headline tips, evergreen content etc
- generating traffic for your blog – how to do it!
- monetization – teaching on an array of methods of making money from blogs
- building a long term business – expanding to multiple blogs and adding businesses to your blog
There are also 3 great case studies on the blogs that Collis has set up – these case studies are highly valuable in and of themselves and my favourite part of the book.
I found this 327 page book to be a refreshing read and one that I think will help a lot of people. For me the highlight was to get an insight into how another bloggers has approached his business – I picked up a lot of great ideas and know that anyone starting out will gain even more insight.
You can get a free sample of the book on the sales page for it (including full table of contents and the first chapter).
Hey Darren,
Sounds awesome. eBook looks great.
Just Reading the samplechapter.
Thanks for the share.

Thanks for the recommendation. I hope that we can find some excellent new fresh content in here. It seems like most bloggers that come out with these books are just a regurgitation of what other successful bloggers have written.
Hi,
I got to know about this eBook on Freelanceswitch. The eBook looks really great.
I also love their sales page.
Kindest,

The financial future is looking good for many website owners!… I’m just looking at the timeline on a 5 year plan now, rather than 5 months!…
Always a pleasure Darren!,
:]
Thanks Darren, I looked at the table of content and the first chapter and ,although it seems like a really good book and that I would be willing to read it, I just think that 47$ for a paperback book is too much.
I bought your book on Amazon for around 20$ and that was good and worth it but for 47$, I think it’s too much.
But thanks for sharing the link.
Skimmed the first chapter. Absolutely loved the organization of his thought – his distinction between hobby blogging and blogging as a business is invaluable to anyone, including hobby bloggers, who have a real desire for growth. And he’s exactly right about the costs of blogging. You may not think you’re paying because of a lack of cash, but this “hobby blogger” has paid dearly with time invested.
I do think I need to say something about competition and market conditions, two elements for evaluating whether your blog has a chance. Sometimes your competition – precisely because it has set itself up as a business – isn’t to be emulated in any way whatsoever. For example: most academics, including ones that blog at bigger sites flush with dollars to advertise and that have premade authority (i.e. the chronicle of higher ed), are just wanna-be pundits. They’re spending more time talking about every issue under the sun except their own work. It took me a while to realize how unique what I was doing was, and I think one has to be aware that in some cases, a market is being created, or at least revealed.
Hey Darren,
Thanks for recommending this book. I will check out the ebook version. It is always great to learn from individuals that are having success. I always pick a thing or two that moves my business forward.
Chat with you later…
Josh
Looks like a decent read and a good recommendation. Hopefully something new and fresh will come out of it rather than a collection of stuff we already know!

Wonderful post – I was thinking about a similar article which I will probably still take a shot at, but from a slightly different angle. Thanks for sharing this with your readers…Obviously a lot of others appreciate it too!
I agree 100%! That was a wonderful post! I think I might buy that book now that was such a good review!

I hope it turns out to be a good book considering the fact that every tom, dick and harry is trying to publish something on “how to make money” and thus trying to make some money himself.
That book sounds really interesting and I love the design!
Thanks!
I’m liking the book so much but the thought of buying an ebook for $39 makes me want to cry. I want the paperback copy, if only shipping was free…. :(

I am sure if someone buy this book and do what he stated in his book will surely successful in the field of blogging. If you have will power get that book and do it!!!!!!!!
I will go read the sample chapter and see if it is worth it ;)
lol a handful of of the observations readers submit crack me up, time and again i wonder if they even read the post and reports before writing or if perhaps they simply just read the title of the post and generate the very first thought that pops into their heads. in either case, it is good to look over smart commentary from time to time instead of the exact same, traditional blog vomit which i more often than not notice on the net i’m going to play a smattering of rounds of facebook poker adios
I am planning to start making money out of blogging as well. I’ve seen so many successful bloggers, and the idea really intrigues me. I hope that book helps. Thanks for the heads up! :)
ok , thanks for new ebook
i will read it. i also like great idea
