A few weeks ago Matt from Chewing Pencils emailed me asking if I could judge his Christmas Cartoons Group Project. Matt had 17 entries submitted (I’ve included links to each below) and gave me the difficult job of choosing one to win.
The choice was difficult (and I’m not just saying that because all judges say that type of thing when announcing a winner) but because I’m not a cartoonist, I wasn’t sure whether to judge it on humor, drawing style, message and lastly because I found something to like in all of the 17 entries! Oh the pressure!
But in the end I narrowed my favorites down to a top five (which I chose for a variety of reasons) and then picked my winner.
The cartoon that I chose was Ming from Artmaker.
I chose it largely because it made me laugh. In fact so did the others in my top five (honorable mentions). They are (in not particular order):
- Ricemutt from Experiments in Finance
- Dave from Cartoon Blog
- Adrian from Antrageous
- Tony from Success from the Nest (particularly appealed to my funny bone and would be my runner up)
Following are the other 12 entries – all of which were great also. Thanks to Matt and those who entered for the opportunity to participate in this way. I enjoyed the cartoons, found some cool new blogs along the way and am very jealous of your artistic talents!
- Santa as a ProBlogger
- a long line and a cool sled
- Desert Kiosk
- Snow Blogger
- Santa Strike Squad
- Location, Location and Location)
- Naughty and Nice
- Is Santa Real?
- Frozen Santa
- Christmas Decoration
- Blog Reading Reindeer
- Changing Face of Christmas (Matt’s submission which I didn’t include in actual judging)
Santa obviously needs a spam filter :)
thanks darren..must be hard being the only judge..opposed to a panel of judges..
in a way i drew it for you knowing you’d be the judge.
i read your blog regularly, and am really happy for the fewminutes of bloglight:)
congrats to all the othert participants too.
and a big thanks to matt, for starting this project!
may there be many more!
Great pick Darren and Congrats Ming.
“Check Out my Blog !” :)
ha ha! that was extremely nice one there. When we look at the fact that number of blogs which we have at this time….I’m sure that we’ll soon need to do what is said in the cartoon. I guess I’ll ask the same from Santa.
I would like to congratulate Ming and other participants as they showed some real cool graphics and cartoons.
The one which said six figure blog (from Tony)….was my favourite :)
Darren – Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad you found it funny. Ming’s entry was one of my favorites — a great style and funny gag. Being second fiddle to that entry wasn’t so bad :)
You had a difficult task choosing from all the terrific entries.
Mayank – Thanks, I’m glad you liked it.
looooooool, funny christmas image :d
can i have the permission to put it in my blog’s home page ?
thanks matt and darren
What the hell is a “Carton” lol ;)
Well done though, sounds like it was a great success

Yeah, imagine Santa going through those millions of blogs by himself. If he’d do it, his fingers would burn and his eyes would be playing ping-pong for the next decade… And the net traffic… Santa’s ISP would be bankrupted.
