I’m watching with interest the redesign process of BusinessLogs.com which has already won awards for it’s designs.
Mike Rundle explains some of the reasons for and thinking behind the design (which is slowly coming into effect on the site). I can’t wait to see how it ends up because these guys always come up with innovative design and create a feel that makes me purrrrr with delight. Wish I had this type of design ability – in fact I wish I had any at all!.
On design matters, Darren, I’ve noted for a while that you have your sidebar to the left, which gets the best attention for ads. Yet most templates put it on the right, where they are easily ignored. A slim, right-hand column is a kind of trashcan approach to the material in it. Most of the available templates are not designed for,or by, Probloggers, it seems.
Another reason many templates have the sidebar on the right is that the content then appears higher within the overall HTML code which some argue is better for SEO. (I understand you can put the content above navigation in the code using other techniques too while still having navigation on the left.
That is indeed top-notch design, but I found this post on Adaptive Path’s and others’ new blog tracking apps to be even more juicy-interesting.
Yeah, I’m definitely a fan of their design work.
Darren, I remember your site before this swanky design :)
Glad to hear everyone is liking it. I kind of overhyped it as a joke about all the hyping going around lately and also because Rundle was sitting right next to me freaking out about getting the design out in time.
Thanks for the kind words.
