Betting Opens on the Technorati Top 100

Posted By Darren Rowse 23rd of June 2006 Pro Blogging News 0 Comments

Sportsbook BetUS.com has started taking bets on which blog will top Technorati’s Top 100 on New Years Eve this year.

It’s a shameless self promotion really but it’s is a novel way of making money blogging so I thought I’d link up.

I doubt anyone will beat Xu Jing Lei at the top (although if Robert Scoble changes announced he was going to work at Boing Boing there could be a challenge) but here are the odds that they are offering (sadly there is no ProBlogger in the list :-) – I think we’d be at least +10,000 despite our current 58th place).

  1. it seems funny that blogging than has become something akin to sport! I recently got into the ‘game’ and was really suprised at the audiance that the blog quickly picked up. Now I sound like a total geek when I speak about the blogs Ive read last night. I always get the same responce “Why the hell would anyone go to a blog?” Haha cant wait to tell them about this.

  2. I dislike any kind of betting. However, I am happy that blogging is becoming an industry. this transformation is taking very fast.

  3. These predictions suffer from the fatal flaw of most prognostications: extrapolating the future by gazing in the rearview mirror.

By the end of this year, the blog roll will be topped by a new generation of blogs that have leapfrogged the old guard by improving on the basic structure and experience of the blog. Change is perpetual, and it is lazy to assume a static pyramid.

I make bold to predict my blog will be one such new leader. As the man said, Make it so.

  4. People bet on that stuff? Wow, blogging truly has gone mainstream!

  5. This is great, and they leave Xu Jing Lei’s blog out of the competition. I have been reading from Xu Jing Lei, she is an authority in her field: Film Making. If you searched about her, she is really popular, no wonder she can be TOP.

Blogging has really done a major make over in many industries. This is just awesome!

  6. pretty sure they leave Xu Juin Lei out because there is little chance of her not being on top – they’d lose money on that bet every time.
