I want to apologize to those readers who have been complaining of loading problems with ProBlogger of late. I’ve had a number of issues to deal with and think that I’m slowly identifying the problems.
One of the issues was that i was running Google Analytics on my blog which as an external script seemed to slow things down a little, perhaps in combination with a couple of other external scripts. I’ve stopped using it – not that I was really checking it much anyway as I found it to be too heavy a stats program.
But the main problem seemed to be revolving around AdBrite ads. The loading of pages seemed to intermittently stop when it got to the point where the AdBrite ads should have been showing our b5media ads. It would pause loading while it tried to run them meaning that everything after them in the source code would not load (ie 90% of my blog as my Adbrite ads were in the left hand sidebar – some blogs with the same problem would at least have content showing as they have right hand sidebars). It would then load the rest of the page (sometimes taking up to a few minutes) without the ads which should have shown. I’ve noticed this happening for a week or two but the last few days it’s worsened.
I’ve noticed the same loading problem on my other blogs with Adbrite ads on them also. (update: I’m seeing the same loading issues on lots of blogs with adbrite including Gawker). Has anyone else or is it just some of us? One thought I had was that maybe it’s a browser problem (I’m using Firefox 1.5.0.4) – but the same issue seems to be happening for me with IE and Safari.
I’m not sure what the problem is – I’m seeing the same thing happen on our other b5 blogs today also. It doesn’t happen all of the time but enough to give me and quite a few of you a pain in the neck. If this is happening to every Adbrite publisher today there must be ALOT of blogs not loading properly!
We’ll be looking further into it as Adbrite do bring in a good income to our blogs but in the mean time I’ve removed them temporarily from my sidebar and have contacted Adbrite regarding it.
Update: I’ve just noticed that Isolf.com has the news that Adbrite have announced an upcoming down time of their server while they upgrade in a couple of days time. I’m not sure if this is in connection to these problems.
Yep, I’ve seen the same problem on my blogs for the last couple weeks… hopefully their server upgrade will fix things, but on the upside, looking into what was causing the problem made me aware of a number of other slow-loading elements, like Google Analytics – I think I may be dropping it :(
This happen to my site too. :(
I’ve seen occasional loading problems with Adbrite, but the serious problem for me has been text-link-ads. I had to disable it entirely while I was being hammered by hordes of barbarians the other day, simply because they were utterly down.
Hi Darren,
I come here almost everyday and I don’t notice any pop up windows, but just now, just after your page loaded, an ad window ‘popped out’. And HEY! another one just popped up again right now! and i haven’t even finish typing this! it’s from this site
Is this another one of the issues that you are talking about?
Darren, same problem for me when I was evaluating them so I decided not to include them on my site.
I place my adbrite ads in an iframe. The content appears while the ads are loading. No matter how slow the ads are (unfortunately, this is common for adbrite), the site will load as if there are no ads.
Costa – I’m not sure where the pop ups are coming from but can assure you that I don’t have any running on this blog.
Same problem for the past few days. Getting worse.
I think you are right, this is the browser problem. For example I had problems with Adsense while using Opera, but when I use IE, it gives me the full list of functions, that I can do with the ads. For example, while using Opera, I would have ability to change the format of the ad.
I started using the Performancing analytics program on my blog, and I haven’t noticed any problems. It is a great stats software, easy to use, easy to understand and maybe you could try that.
tanya: He uses PMet too…
no ads being shown today, it’s very annoying – we all are loosing our money. the loading time for adbrite was terrible last few days, they should focus more on performance than earning money with one old server…
i’ve been using adbrite for more than a month now, never had any problems with it. it is just not a great source of income :(
I was having issues with AdBrite for a few weeks. My account would say that my blogs were inactive and that I needed to reactivate my AdBrite code for them. Other days it would say that I only had 2 visitors to my blog. AdBrite was really good about getting back to me, but no one seemed to be able to figure out what was going on.
Put the Google Analytics code at the end of your page and you won’t have any problems. Google first suggested to put it in the header. I didn’t do it as external scripts should always go at the end of the code, as they can do less harm in case of a server failure.
Now they are suggesting to put it just before the -Tag, not within the header as before.

Pud out, Iggy in, as AdBrite strengthens management…
After online advertising clearinghouse AdBrite closed an $8 million second round of funding from Sequoia Capital, I wrote in March that, “this easy-to-use alternative system will catch on with more publishers and emerge as a high-margin, cash generat…
We had this problem for months. AdBrite’s ad server always times out. I was amazed no one else noticed it. We dropped AdBrite because of this problem.
I never use Adbrite because it is mostly porn. Forget the ads not loading.
AdBrite’s performance problems have been fixed. Since outsourcing DNS to Akamai, load times have been less than 200ms for the past couple of weeks. We’ve tripled capacity and are stronger than ever!
Thanks for using AdBrite, sorry for any inconvenience.

I have a question about AdBrite.
I was thinking to register for AdBrite. But I figured out that the registration page is a NON-SECURE page!
And they ask you to provide with your Social Security Number and all the personal information on a NON-SECURE page. I talked to a customer rep. at AdBrite. He told me that “transmission is secure even though page is not secure”.
I didn’t understand how a transmission would be safe if the page is not safe. If the page is not safe, doesn’t it mean that someone else may see the information that I provide?
Am I wrong about my concern regarding the security of AdBrite?
Yeah, i am also having problems with adbrites slow loading ads, i was thinking about placing the ads so that they come to their appropriate locations but when only the whole page is loaded.
trying to write a script to do this
Best Regards
Adbrite is a very good affiliate site in my view and it was a shame to see the server problems. On the other hand they are solved now, right? If not maybe the script sollution is suitable and maybe Haxan can give it to us as well :P
I still have the same problem these few days.
Seeing this on all of our sites that use Adbrite today 11/30/2006. One of our sites cannot even load the rest of its content because it is waiting on the adbrite side of things.
I have had problem with using their banner and code on my site. It seems to slow everything down or not show up at all.
same matter with my two websites
anyone give us a solution ?
Same problem with my site it takes forever to load and I noticed my visitors dropped by 500 a day. Im going to try something with iFrames and maybe try a different ad service if it keeps up thanks for the idea Martin.

don’t suppose anyone knows how to integrate adbrite with someone else’s site like in the form of an iframe. I’ve tried an iframe at the top of a page with another site content underneath but it doesn’t pick it up.

I started having serious issues two days ago. I emailed adbrite yesterday.
I am heading off to drop my ads into iFrames right now as this is just ridiculous.
Adbrite is the second choice after adsense
