After a great break away filled with sun, golf, tennis, wine, cheese, food of all kinds and fun with friends I’m back. I hope those of you able to take a break over the Easter period had as refreshing a time as I did – hopefully away from your blogs like I was able to get. Its amazing what a few days break from blogging can do to your mind.
The only problem now is that I have an email box with 903 emails in my inbox and literally thousands of unread articles and posts in my RSS feed to wade through. This could take a while.
A quick question for my WordPress using friends – does anyone know a reliable comment spam prevention plugin for WP 1.2? I’ve got Kitten’s Spaminator installed on all of my blogs and it works perfectly in every case but this blog here at ProBlogger.
Does anyone have any suggestions for WP 1.2 plugins that might help?
Lastly – thanks to all those who’ve been leaving comments on the posts from the last few days – I’m particularly impressed with your answers on the Introduce Yourself Post which helped me discover a few excellent blogs that I’d not known of before.
I’m a big fan of Spam Karma after moving to it from Spaminator. I’m not sure how suited it is to 1.2 but works great for wordpress 1.5
Spam Karma is the answer. I use it with WP 1.2.2 and it works great!
Make mine a third vote for Spam Karma. I put it on my newest blog and no comment spam has made it through so far. Spaminator is good, but I think Spam Karma is better.
Honestly I’d recommend upgrading to WP1.5. I did it on all my blogs remarkably painlessly.
Hi there,
Sorry for the spam[ish] pitch, but you ought to upgrade your install of SK. I see you are still using Spam Karma 1, and it’s got some serious problems with false positives, as well as a few unfixed bugs (it hasn’t been updated in many months now).
Spam Karma 2 (SK2) is objectively many times better, and most importantly, much more careful about false positives. It’s also a simple drag-n-drop to install…
Please consider giving it a try. If not for you, for my own peace of mind (yea, this pitch is not completely disinterested: I am trying to eradicate all obsolete installs of SK1 still running on the web, in the desperate hope of cutting down a bit on the small but persistent number of SK1-related death threats I receive each day).
Cheers!
