Just a short note to let readers know that due to an overwhelming number of requests for the feature to be re-added to this blog that I’ve activated the ‘subscribe to comments’ feature again.
By default it is not activated when you leave a comment – so you need to manually check the box under comments as you leave your comment to be notified of further comments via email.
A Word of Warning – while this feature is very useful at helping people to engage in conversation it is worth stating the obvious warning – ie that some threads here at ProBlogger get a lot of comments (some get hundreds) so subscribing to some threads could quite quickly lead to a full inbox (welcome to my world)! Of course you can unsubscribe from comments at any point – however it might be worth being a little selective!
So to those of you who have been badgering me for this feature – enjoy!
Thank you very much for this feature (I really miss it :-)).
Promise to use it wisely :-)
Regards from Spain,
Paquito.

I’ve always had my reservations about using this plugin but if Problogger is using it, I will have to check it out again :)

Oh Great! Thanks Darren.
thank you, darren(:
just a quick out-of-topic comment: i am really enjoying the flow of posts over the last two weeks. it feels like you’re making a new curve for all the blogging-community: great content vs publishing frequency, pushing the limits over and over again.
Thanks Darren.
I doubt if I will use it much, but I like it being available if there is a particular topic where I would like to see what others think.
Even if this does lead to hundreds of e-mails being sent to my inbox each day it is sure a lot better than those annoying “free viagra” and “free vioxx” e-mails.
I have a way much smaller blog, but with some very active posts (500+ coms), with lots of subscribers, where some guys were commenting like nuts. I was forced by my hosting company to disable the notofication service, my blog was sending over 10k mails per day, sometimes 2k-3k per sec.
Don’t you have the same problem? :D
Hey –
Very cool – where can we get this plugin – will it work w/ WordPress?
thanks!
Fred
silvino – thanks, have been working hard at it lately – appreciate the feedback.
Mike – yeah, that’s how I use it on other sites too.
Fred – it’s a WP plugin called Subscribe to Comments
I honestly HATE subscribing to comment…
Why? If you subscribe to a post on a very popular site, you will hate it when you check your mail box, it’s literally filled with mails and I just delete them all and get overwhelm.
If I did leave some kind of comment that I am expecting a reply, I just bookmark the post and come back later :-)
I’m the author of the plugin (and a b5media employee!) The plugin definitely works best on low-volume threads or dormant threads (which can become re-awakened as someone new leaves a comment).
For sites that frequently get several dozen comments per entry, it might be better to subscribe to the comments feed (for WordPress-based sites, just add “/feed/” to the end of the URL. So for this entry it would be:
https://problogger.com/subscribe-to-comments-reactivated/feed/ ).
I personally believe this is a must, maybe not for big time blogger like PB but for smaller blogs, it encourages users to come back, I use it and find it helps bring me back to blog posts.

Thank you for this feature, I like this plugin!
Great articles! :-)
Great idea! Is there a plug-in for TypePad too?
