Description

The House of Staunton is currently looking for talented, creative, and thoughtful writers to write long-form content. The content will typically be well-researched and revised pieces for a general chess-playing audience.

Types of pieces may include:

  • Buying guides aimed at potentially interested customers.
  • Guides to chess rules or articles explaining basic chess concepts
  • Articles relating to chess history.
  • In-depth guides on topics such as chess openings.

Length may vary, and additions to existing or previous work may at times be requested.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Fluent English language proficiency.
  • Strong understanding of chess and/or chess products.
  • Writers will be expected to write instructional and/or buying guides related to chess that are both accessible and informative.
  • Ability to adapt writing to the needs of different audiences.
  • Ability to ensure the accuracy of their writing.

Responsibilities

  • Writers will be expected to be able to write 3000 words every two weeks. This includes research time if needed.
  • Writers will be expected to provide revisions and clarification to the editorial team as requested.
  • Writers will not be responsible for images, though they will be expected to work with editors and the media team to request images that complement their written work.
  • Absolutely no AI writing or resources will be accepted. Unauthorized use of AI or plagiarized work will not receive payment and lead to the termination of the writer’s position.

What We Offer:

Compensation may vary based on experience, but starting rates may vary between 12 and 16 cents per word depending on previous chess experience or writing experience.
