Vista Greenhouses is looking for an experienced freelance content writer to produce high-quality, long-form educational content for vistagreenhouses.com.
We are an e-commerce business specializing in greenhouse kits, grow lights, gardening structures, and related greenhouse accessories for customers throughout the United States.
Our goal with content is not simply to publish articles for SEO. We want to build a genuinely useful resource that helps homeowners and gardeners research greenhouse ownership, make better purchasing decisions, and get more from their greenhouses.
What You'll Be Writing
The successful writer will produce thoroughly researched, long-form articles, generally 1,500–2,500+ words, depending on the topic.
Topics may include:

Greenhouse sizing and placement
Greenhouse foundations
Ventilation and temperature control
Heating and cooling
Greenhouse glazing and frame materials
Shade cloth and accessories
Seasonal greenhouse gardening
Greenhouse maintenance

Other practical topics related to greenhouse ownership and growing
We will provide the topic, target audience, SEO direction, and relevant product or company information for most assignments. Some articles will also include recommended sources or research materials.
However, strong independent research ability is essential. You should be comfortable finding trustworthy sources, verifying technical claims, comparing information from multiple sources, and explaining potentially complicated subjects clearly to everyday homeowners.
What We're Looking For
You should be able to:
Write natural, fluent English for a U.S. audience.
Produce clear, conversational, easy-to-understand writing.
Research unfamiliar topics independently and thoroughly.
Explain technical information without unnecessary jargon.
Write with substance and avoid filler, fluff, and generic statements.
Organize long-form content logically with useful headings and sections.
Understand basic on-page SEO and search intent.
Support factual claims and statistics with credible sources.
Follow an established content brief and style guide.
Meet agreed deadlines and communicate reliably.
Experience writing about gardening, horticulture, greenhouses, homesteading, landscaping, agriculture, outdoor living, home improvement, or similar subjects is strongly preferred, but it is not an absolute requirement.
An exceptional researcher and writer who can quickly understand a specialized subject will also be considered.
Our Approach to AI
We are looking for a writer, not an AI content operator.
Using modern tools to assist with research, brainstorming, outlining, or workflow is fine. However, we will not accept articles that are primarily AI-generated, lightly rewritten AI output, factually unreliable, or lacking original research and judgment.
Every submitted article should be independently researched, fact-checked, original, and written to a standard you would be comfortable publishing under a reputable brand.
Ongoing Work
This is intended to be a long-term freelance relationship with the right writer.
We initially expect approximately 2 long-form articles per month, with the possibility of additional work as our content program grows.
We value consistency and would prefer to develop a long-term relationship with one excellent writer who becomes increasingly familiar with our customers, products, industry, and editorial standards.
Paid Trial
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a paid 500-word writing trial.
All finalists will receive the same greenhouse-related topic and will be asked to research and write the sample independently. The purpose of the trial is to evaluate research ability, clarity, writing style, and depth of understanding.
The trial payment will be $40 USD.
Compensation
Our initial budget is approximately $250–$350 USD per completed long-form article, depending on article length, complexity, research requirements, and the writer's experience.
We are open to discussing higher rates for an exceptional writer, and there will be opportunities for rate increases as the relationship develops.
Quality is more important to us than finding the lowest-priced writer.
