Description
We’re hiring a detail-oriented linguist with a background in lexical semantics, syntax, or applied linguistics. Someone who’s studied or worked with real-world language data. If you’ve ever analyzed meaning shifts in words across contexts or explored cross-linguistic patterns, we’d love to hear about it.

READ THESE DISCLAIMERS FIRST:
- This starts as a part-time trial contract: Proven reliable trial candidates will be offered a full-time role with a raise and additional performance-based bonuses.
- Do not apply if you plan to use AI: We’ve tested it extensively. It does not meet our standards. It slows us down and costs time. This role demands manual work, guided by linguistic attention and critical thinking.
- We prioritize depth over length: We value concise, clear writing over high word counts. This role requires staying strictly on-topic, avoiding unnecessary context shifts or padding to extend article length.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Strong grasp of English writing mechanics
Trained in linguistics or currently studying it - Proficiency in basic image creation and editing to supplement written content
- Willing to learn a highly specific editorial process
- Ruthless conciseness: Ability to write highly focused content that satisfies the reader's immediate intent without wandering off-topic
- Available for part-time work with potential for growth
YOU’LL BE DOING THE FOLLOWING:
- Study and internalize our granular writing guidelines (take your time, the instructions are detailed and layered)
- Be prepared to invest 3 hours in initial training (unpaid but required)
- Take the article from the provided brief all the way to a publishable draft
- Adhere strictly to the scope of the provided brief, editing aggressively to remove bloat, tangents, and artificial word count inflation
- Actively provide constructive feedback to help develop, refine, and improve our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Proactively and efficiently communicate with a subject matter expert (professional game developers) and source raw firsthand information (both visual and text) for you to polish
- Create basic custom visuals to support the text, and proactively communicate with a graphic designer for complex visuals that fall outside basic creation
Source relevant, helpful images (that don’t require a subject matter expert's input) to support the writing by explaining or simplifying concepts and lowering the reader's effort to digest the text
