Job Description
American Songwriter is looking for a thorough, and detail-oriented Trending Commerce Writer with demonstrated expertise in and passion for all things gear and music production equipment and products.
The Trending Commerce Writer will be responsible for sourcing stories and writing reviews covering new gear releases and updates, including product announcements/launches, brand initiatives, trade shows (NAMM) and more.
Must be able to identify newsworthy trending topics and stories, self-edit work, complete projects on time, and write effectively for long-form web content.
The Trending Content Writer’s responsibilities include creating print and digital content that is readable, accurate, and ready for publication, reviewing products, and producing content on a tight deadline.
A successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of music production and music products, including instruments, recording hardware & software, and more. An understanding of the online world, trends, and other elements of music culture is a must as well.
You’ll be creating compelling written pieces on new products and other newsworthy gear-related announcements that appeal to our audience and boost traffic in support of our affiliate content (product reviews).
You must have a background in music production or be a musician to be considered for this role.

Responsibilities:
- Closely follow the musical gear world across multiple platforms, including PR mailing lists, to source original and relevant stories promptly
- Write product-focused content, producing well-researched content for publication online
- Write clear, concise copy
- Research products, gather data, and provide readers with in-depth reviews and reports
- Build stories/features/news on Content Management System, WordPress
- Proofread and self-edit posts before publication
- Submit work to editors for input and approval
- Ensure all-around consistency (style, fonts, images, and tone)
- Update website content as needed
- Work closely with a writing team, including content writers and editors
- Working closely with management to build online traffic
- Follow an editorial calendar, collaborating with other members of the content production team to ensure timely delivery of materials
Requirements:
- Excellent writing and editing skills – strong knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling
- Ability to meet tight deadlines
- Have a basic grasp of Content Management Systems, CMS. (e.g. WordPress)
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently with little daily supervision
- Ability to work/write quickly and efficiently – including several news articles and features daily.
- Demonstrated expertise in music production equipment and methods
- A meticulous approach to their work and an eye for detail
- Must be based in U.S.
- Available 30-40 hours per week
- Experience with Asana and WordPress is a plus
This role will be a contract-to-hire role with a month-to-month contract to start.
