Keyword research is very important but not only for the blogs, also it is, so that the content of the pages are more attractive as much for the users as for the robots. And to obtain all we wished: that our pages are positioned in first place for the search engines.
When I first started my blog I thought that getting found on Google would take forever and was not on my radar until last week. I noticed that my blog has been found by certain search terms that I was not trying to be found by. Now I realize the power of keywords. For example, I recently blogged about a snowstorm in my area. I have been found on Google with keywords relating to a snowstorm in our region. Until I noticed this in my stats, I wasn’t even looking at keywords, but now I think I should be.

One of the places I go to do keyword research is WordTracker and they have combined their keyword info with Google Trends. It’s very slick:

Thanks for this useful post…I agree that keyword research is one of the most valuable thing to consider in driving a traffic to your blog.
Strange fact – when I include the most obvious keywords in my posts, I get less hits than when I just write my posts naturally.

Thanks for taking the time to write this comprehensive article. I think you hit the nail on the lid when you said keyword research is MARKET research. That fact is often overlooked.
